*When Dali met someone or talked with a close friend who asked him what a painting or work of art meant or what each figure/symbol represented he would simply ask them: "What do you think it means?" They would then give an explanation to each one or to the whole painting and he would act/pretend to be absolutely amazed!!...he would then say "No one has ever really seen my painting for what it was like I have.. but that is correct! But don't tell anyone, between you and me..." He would say this to each person no matter the explanation given.... Because that's Surrealism... What an awesome guy*

I'm not Pamela, but people homeschool for as many different reasons as people who put their kids in private schools or public schools. Perhaps the local school isn't very good or the child has a learning disability and needs extra lessons or it's a choice based on religion because of the current political climate or just because the parent can do a better job of it. Often, also, the child is gifted and the school has nothing to offer them. Or is a traveling talent: actor, dancer, musician.

David Davidson hard to rate artists. There are many phenomenal artists. Jose deribera the Russian ilya repin are right up there with Dali. To quantify this seems dismissive. I can't help but feel like no one else could paint what Dali painted. And yet He seems capable of everyone else's work. In fact if you attributed any other piece of art by another artist to him It Rolf almost seems dumbed down. If he'd painted the Sistine chapel (and surely he was technically capable) it would seem like....... "Wow that's amazing. But it's missing that Dali thing." And so, for that reason ,I have to agree. He was actually the best artist I have ever seen.

Dali is one of my idols of my favorite artist, He inspired me to make my dreams into reality as like throwing things freely without consequences. Thanks to Salvador Dali, the feeling that I had of designing my room into a weird dream world became more like his living room with the pillow lips, the nose for the fireplace and the photo of the eyes turned an ordinary bedroom into a life like anthropomorphic room. Truly he is like my hero of eccentricity and publicity.

He was amazing! Our world needs more Dali's (in particular Dali, and maybe some other modern artists as well) - we would then have atomic bombs that bomb with flowers or pink gas with the smell of a lobster, we would have taxi cars with soft cloudy sits, and we would have eyes, rhinos and watches painted on walls, but not abusive words.

David Davidson if your roommate belongs to a usual kind of students, and he comes back every second evening stoned or wasted, than he deserves such attitude. Plus, it's very wrong (and short-sighted) to think of surrealism only in the way you said.

The "paranoic delusion" of seeing faces and other forms in shapes and shadows is now known as Pareidolia, it is not thought of as only paranoia anymore. In science it is a survival mechanism we evolved with. It may be to neurotic extremes with some people, It is also known as a form of apophenia. Recent example is the "face on Mars". In abnormal apophenia, the patterns are imagined, sometimes the patterns are ominous, often associated with paranoid schizophrenia, though everyone experiences patterns in random information from time to time. In modern times it is no longer always thought to be associated with psychosis. Dali turned it into art. ;) Thank you for this great documentary! I watched the Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, Van Gogh, now Dali. This is wonderful work I missed seeing in the last ten years. The Picasso video was uploaded to KZbin in 2012. I can't believe I missed these! Okay, on with the show. Just had to remark on the suggestion of paranoid delusion in seeing faces in rocks, etc.

Dali had the three necessities of a great classical artist, skill, technique and ideas. Unlike most modern artists he could draw. Quote from “Modern art a Portrait of Mediocrity” - Amazon.com "Some artist have skill but lame ideas; some have good ideas but lack the skill to express them. Most have neither."

The paranoiac-critical method was just a joke. Dali was doing a parody of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant's "critical method," which was in style amongst intellectuals at the time. He simply had an off-the-wall sense of humor, much like Jim Carrey today. He also once said of the German philosopher Nietzsche that he would out-Nietzschify Nietzsche with his wax mustache. Making parody of stern German culture was the fad of the day.

Change is good, know matter how it sometimes feels daunting. Dali, Warhol, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh ,Picasso just to name a very tiny few were all about being apart of change. You don't have to reinvent the wheel, just sometimes make it appear that it's not just the same wheel. Yes- Inspiration is such a power motivator and often is just the very thing to lift a fog too! :)

He was an Tesla, but in the art world. Best artist in the art world ever. Technically? Better then Rembrandt, on the level of other masters, and in some paintings, even better. Artistically? Untouchable. Basically? He could do anything. Impressionism? Okay. Expressionism? No problem. Abstract? Hah. Any. Any kind of technic, he owned it. Here. The true divine of art. One of the fallen angels of the art, and the strongest of them. Salvador Dali!

I watch this - Dali's immense talent; his eccentric behaviour; his uber-confidence; his courting of celebrity; his adopting other disciplines outside his pedigree to create jewellery, for example; his divisiveness - and I think: Kanye West.

And, funny thing, most of geniuses have persona like that. When you analise lifes of Leonardo Da Vinci, Angelo, Dali, West, Freund, Einstein, Tesla, you can easliy find that they all were (and are), little narcistic, little everywhere, little eccentric, and little uber-confidence (uber? Their confidence is on point. And their ego is on point. Like. Seriously, people like West, Einstein, Tesla, Dali, artists, scientist, they are like gods to us. Who would we be without people like this? Answer is easy. Animals.).
