The "center tipped screws" are actually just "security torx screws" no need to break them, just use the right screwdriver. (Edit:) Just wanna add that i like the video, you know your electronics, keep up the good work

Thanks for being so straight forward dude! I got a bunch of old laptop batteries in a box and it had a leaf blower battery good to know that its possible to open it. I'm working on an ebike battery trying to upgrade my lead-acid batteries to lithium.

I would recommend using a small pair of needle nose pliers or a pair of wire cutters to remove the nickel strips. I grab ahold of the strip and roll the strip over the pliers to pull off the strip. You can use the needle nose to remove small pieces of the strip that might be left on the battery

TIPS : If you're planning to reuse it as a power tool battery and you don't have a spot welder, just leave the old nickel strip on the battery so you can solder it correctly and securely.

Can you add comparative costs per cell if purchased directly as a cell, versus harvesting it from a battery pack? The cost of time aside, I think the amount of plastic waste created by the harvesting method is not useful.

Excellent video! Very informative for the new people! I would love to see this video go more in depth for testing of the cells. You should be capacity testing not just charging. Also letting them sit for a month and pull the self discharging. Also Where do you go to find those bins of batteries like that for sale?
@bdulAhad05 жыл бұрын
Well wouldn't the batteries have bad health like would not be able to hold charge, they are old??
@TechBuilder5 жыл бұрын
Surplus batteries are considered brand new, most of them were excess from shops that weren't sold till their models became obsolete. Speaking of shelf life, these lithium batteries can last for decades even when unused, as long as they. I'm making a separate tutorial, focused on showing the proper method of checking the remaining battery capacity and it's freshness %. Mine were only behind by 5% of the cell's nominal capacity, I would say, they're in a great condition.
@MCsCreations5 жыл бұрын
Fantastic job, dude. I use to do it with discarded notebook batteries, but I haven't had much luck. 😕 I'm going to try those! 😊 Anyway, just one thing: LiIon cells like the 18650 won't explode like a LiPo. They change exactly the same way, but the similarities end there. Different chemistry. 😊
@TechBuilder5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Same here, laptop batteries were a pain to open. 18650 Lithium-ion batteries are indeed less explosive, but in some cases they still are capable of exploding. Had experienced it before when I overcharged one of my cells in a controlled experiement.
