These boats are just rough as guts behind the ikea style modules. After seeing the way the bulkheads have been bogged in and where they are glassed it's bad. I would never go blue water sailing in one. If you can sand the surfaces, cove and tape with 2 layers of 600gsm double bias e-glass and epoxy, it should end up stronger than when it was new. Good luck Guys, cheers Rustie.

The lack of tabbing on the bulkhead at 9:30 appears sub standard. That section of plywood bulkhead that cracked at 8:00 is very narrow at the floor/ wall intersection. Even though its tripled it wasnt strong enough. It’s so narrow there that using plywood is inadequate. It should be a solid glass composite. When you tab to plywood the tabbs have to be wide or it will sheer of the top layer of plywood. Tabbing layers should be tapered to prevent a focused stress point. Lots of work there but certainly fixable. Best of luck to you guys.

Awsome job , so even if you guys overtightened the rig the same issue would transpire being over canvassed . It looks as if the doorway entry point has not left the acquired amount of timber to take loads experienced . The furniture also seems to create rigidity and of course the screwless effect . One has to consider the initial salvage could have caused initial damage also the shock loads received during the hurricane . The force especially pushing inboard prevalent with the stbd side damage you guys repaired definitely must have caused failure . I would carry out repairs vynalester and woven rovings with powder bound chop mat and 1152 bonding paste . When repairing bulk heads and transverse stringers one has to remember the use of collidcal silica mixed with epoxy as bonding paste will not flex at all and could cause cracking and hard spots where it meets the hull at a later stage . This repair work should have been carried out on the hard standing as now you are committed to continue as lift out could cause more distortion . Scott bader are the product suppliers should you wish to go the route of original products.

Apparently a thing from lightning called "sideflashes" is a big deal. My research says the lightning uses the boat as a path the the SURFACE of the water. If there is an easy way , direct connection, like off a stay direct down to the surface, it will take it. If not, it just jumps around till it gets there. In one boat it jumped all the way to the engine, from the engine jumped down the shaft and out to the surface. Blew holes near the end of the shaft, rather than just running out to the propeller ! MarineLightning.com is a good place to go. For some reason those bulkheads (numerous boats) are always just one piece of plywood. The entire boat is held together by them. Crazy. That family crest was amazing.

Wouldn't it make sense to take the mast down for the duration of the bulkhead repairs? That way the riggin wouldn't put pressure on the bulkheads and you could remove the tabbing of the bulkheads without much risk. Also, you wouldn't have to worry about lightning that much.

Never ceases to amaze me to see someone like Colin who has outstanding character, attitude and is a hard worker making reasonable decisions. He brings people together to chase a dream and works very hard to achieve a very difficult goal for his age considering the current world economy. Then he suffers an unbelievable sequence of bad luck and adversity, he does not beg for money and ask for free handouts, he just throws himself head first into solving the problems. It is sad to see him have to leave the boat. Then you have other "KZbinrs" who don't bother saving, don't bother getting qualified, buy junk boats, don't prepare properly, take the rubbish boats into dangerous situations, sink them, make a mess for others/the environment/insurance etc, then get 500K+ handouts from their viewers through mediums like Gofund me. The world in 2020 really is a joke. I wish there was more support for those who deserve it, instead of stupid people making stupid decisions and winning good prizes.

@@trentspencer7991 gotcha, I agree with your thoughts. But again, for me anyway and only referring to a lot of these cruiser video’s it’s difficult for me to hear them refer to it as a business. One actually said that to me when I questioned how in the world he could afford to buy a house on the lake in Lake Tahoe CA (some of the most expensive real estate in the U.S) and buying four boats for his new sailing school after leaving a boat after ten years. During those 10 years the only source of visible income was You Tube videos and the merch they sold. He lambasted me that “he worked hard and that it was a business with paid employees”. I hope I haven’t outed anyone as that’s not my goal. Anyway, the videos are done well of non-stop vacationing and topless young girl “employees” or crew. I had heard that Leopards weren’t good cats. After seeing your boat’s build condition, I am convinced that the only good Leopard is a hurricane damaged one. Sounds like you’ll need to reinforce ALL of the bulkheads as I am sure they were “joined” with the same standards as the current problem one. In fact, you might check every single critical structural item. I would hate it if you had a terrible mishap at sea. You’re a good and smart guy Colin. To me, that Lagoon looks very poorly made. Yes it was storm damaged, but damn, just some putty on edge of plywood? I would have thought it would pull the veneer off the ply just launching it. And when they did use glass it looked like not enough and poorly wetted. Did the glasser not show up for work that day and the Lagoon management just say, screw it drop the deck on and close the interior? Finally the one spot they had a lot of glass, the rib was small to begin with. Remove all the damage, set the hulls where they belong. Double the wood in all the trouble spots, fillet and glass with West Systems epoxy and it will be the strongest Lagoon made. This video can’t be helping selling those.

Hi guys, when afraid of lightning strucks, think about grounding your rig. This may rise the chance in case of getting hit, that the electrical energy passes the rig and from there - following the grounding - to the water instead of searching a way through the boat and damaging electronics. I sailed a lot in Sweden and there sailors all have jump start cables (call em like this? I am german, not so firm in english....) for cars on board, which they cut in half and the put the clamps on the lower ends of their shrouds and stays and hang the cut end into the water. And I believe your boat has serious structural damage.... that seems to be far more than just that one bulkhead... so get prepared for more. Whish you all the luck you need and good faith!!!

I must admit to a bit of a surprise. Lagoon has a very good name for quality even if it is a production boat it does seem to be out of sight is out of mind with them. What is perhaps less forgivable is that just in that compartment they are wasting several cubic foot of storage space. In the centuries of boat building I do not think any customer ever said the words well I like it but it just has too much storage space!! Admittedly it would cost more in cabinetry to take advantage of spaces like these but I can hardly think it would be significant and they would have yet another selling point to sell more cats. So bad design and worse business sense.
