You're right in the original comic book which was the first time ever any comic book dealt with anything having to do with drugs it was a groundbreaking story but he was shooting up to keep up with all his rigorous activities and stuff like that and green arrow caught him it was a crazy comic book.

On Kryptonian last names, "El" is the Kryptonian word for "Star." So Jor-El translates loosely to "Great Star", Kal-El translates loosely to "Star Child" (his parents hoped he would one day explore the stars, which at the time was forbidden to them because Krypton's space program was banned), and Superman's mother Lara Lor-Van's name translates to Light of Waxing Moon. Nerd trivia!

@@Gundam_JAY In the 90s continuity and the current continuity, there is no set meaning for what Kon-El means. In the New 52 universe, where Superboy was bred to be a bad guy and Krypton was different in several ways, one story said Kon-El meant "abomination" but DC hasn't followed that up with other universes/timeline agreeing on that translation. So we might learn it has a different "star" related meaning later. As for if he's called "child", haha! no, comics talking about his name have said that Kal is an ancient word, so it's an OLD meaning. Sorry I wasn't clear. It's like how Peter might originally meant "Rock" or "Angela" means "angel" but when we call two folks Peter and Angela it's not the same as calling them "Rocky and the Angel", even if we know those are the root words. But hey, it's also fun to think Kara is calling him "Child" or "Kid" or "Mijo" and it's just cool on Krypton to do that. :-)

They had a whole comic issue called Snow Birds don’t fly with him shooting up heroin on the cover but getting caught by green lantern and Green arrow who said “ My ward Speedy is a Junky” with a shocked face. One of the first issues in comics to focus on drugs
