Think about it. A single worker refusing to protest isn't going to change the outcome of a movement. The crew gave other shipbreakers a way to protest and the recording turned public opinion against LINX. One person isn't going to make that big of a difference.

Thanks for showing what little does change. I was hoping there was a real difference in the ending. Something like what happened in my office when we tried to unionize. One traitor demoralizes the movement, the bosses crack down, and the movement dies. It's also worth noting that when companies have even half the power Lynx does, they just straight up murder protestors and their families with no consequences - like what happened at Ludlow. The story is really generous to private tyrannies and how bad they actually get.
@Serilia2 жыл бұрын
I've heard some people say they would have wanted Calyssia to suffer consequences as well, so while I agree that the game is overall more positive than how bas it truly could be, I think they couldn't really go too deep into that. I also heard some people almost stopped playing after Lou got sent to Earth and everyone became Lynx's properties. If they had leaned more into the realism it would have turned the game into a chore to play. Let's say they did their best to balance bringing eyes on an issue and keeping the story palatable.
@fungers15142 жыл бұрын
@@Serilia Oh yeah, still a very good game. This is just one piece I was disappointed in. There are more things to like than dislike and it comes with a good message. I really thought that Hal will lock the market terminal, and fuck with the suit systems. Like O2/fuel leaks coming from the character, all that stuff. In this version it felt easy, an unrealistic powerfantasy. Also, Lynx is kinda good, if you think about it. They basically got you in serfdom (you are a spare after all), but they still give you: 8 mil-ish payoff at the end of each work cycle, so you can pay it off IN 130 work cycles (part of which Deedee can send to her family even when she is in debt); Ultraliberal work hours of 15 minutes a day (even if in reality the cycle is 10-12 hours, you still have to work 130-ish days to get your debt revoked; ~50 m^2 of living space. I lived in a dorm, had a 15m^2 room for three dudes. 52 got a ton of space (pun not intended). So, to be honest, a ton of people will LOVE to work there.

Hal was freakishly similar to my experiences with supervisors in the post office except being an employee for lynx is way way better than working for the post office, I was kinda hoping to a subtle dual ending theme one where you continue to salvage the maximum value of ships siding with hal against the other shipbreakers replacing your supervisor potentially being promoted into management and watching over their replacements after a cloning goes poorly Or b eschewing salvage to pull parts for the armadillo failing goals as hal gets more and more harsh and frantic and eventually poaching the entire crew of the station as you head out to do your own thing

@someolfellow1094 Жыл бұрын
I get they want a happy ending, but Kaito's death was so impactful to me. To have him come back kinda ruined its impact. If Hal had to live knowing he got that young fella killed would've been a good narrative, how the others would've impacted by his permanent death, there was a lot of potential there. There's a story writing rule when it comes to character deaths, if the amount of narrative value gained by the characters death is more impactful than their potential if they lived then it may be a good idea to kill them off. Seeing as this is the end of the story, and how impactful his fake-out death was to the others I think had he actually died it would've left a much bigger impression on the players. The game is wonderful and I love it dearly, but this is the one part of the story I disagree with. Edit: Also, consider how God damn massive the explosion was at his rig, how the hell did he survive that with his thrusters off? Based on his reaction it sounded like he wasn't even moving away all that fast if at all.

I think either the devs didn't want to put too many ressources into an alternative ending, or maybe they didn't want to encourage taking the option. Don't know for sure though
@bellotriggerfish9 ай бұрын
@@SeriliaI think the devs clearly wanted to send a message, and it reflects in the writing. So siding with the mega corp was never really an option imo. Also, another KZbinr pointed out a documentary about the hardships of real world ship breaking and its toll which is linked in the end game credits, so that gives you an idea where they came from. I just finished the story mode, and while it is somewhat entertaining, I am really here for the chill music and the relaxing ship breaking part. If the game had no story, I would be enjoying it just as well.

When you make your evil character a cartoon while the rest of the cast are played straight, your story becomes the joke. The company is comically evil to the point where unionizing is a drop in the bucket. You're literally a slave for as long as they're able to duplicate you from the data they collect. Proper working conditions aren't even possible or else the cutters wouldn't have requesting cloning to remain. Hal could have been played straight but was a Saturday Morning cartoon level of bad from the design to the voice. The story could have dealt with the more insidious problems with the contract than, "Muh debt" since they just insisted on having the damn thing. I just wanna cut ships and owe people money, god dammit.
@AlexMint Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately with mining towns that this is meant to harken back to, the bosses were actually cartoonishly evil in this exact manner(barring the cloning obviously). They fired on the workers, saddled them with debt, and did in fact claim ownership. Often when you describe real scenarios in fiction, people say it's too on the nose.
