I really like all the videos on Catholic Central. Very good information. I want to know if you guys will talk about the priest hood, like what the calling is and what responsibilities they do. The process to become one. Also, the difference between priest like religious priest versus diocesan priest.

Hi @mattd2569, we did do an episode on Holy Orders where a lot of what you are looking for is covered. It is hard to elaborate on the actual process as it varies from diocese to diocese and order to order. In a nutshell, when a person feels called to the priesthood (or the diaconate or religious life) they usually enter a period where they are helped to discern their calling. Through spiritual direction and other discernment tools, if they feel they are called, they will enter some form of formation - for priests, this would be the seminary. This is usually where the roads between a parish priest, ordered priests, deacons, and lay religious. The differences between a parish priest and an "ordered priest" (one who belongs to a religious order like the Franciscans or Jesuits) are that a parish (or diocesan priest) usually stays within the boundaries of their diocese while an ordered priest will go wherever his order sends him, it could be down the road or the other side of the world. Each order also has their own "charism" or specialty or discipline. For instance, there are orders that concentrate on education. A lot of their priests are teachers or professors. We hope this begins to answer some of your questions.
