Great sermon man, only 16 and am struggling with salvation. I just want Christ, but I don’t know if I even truly get the meaning of how much my sin is an abomination to God. Just pray for me that I will just come and fall to Christ. Thanks, and God bless

It sounds as if you’re saved but want to know Christ more. Either way, read the Bible, pray and take part in a fellowship of Christians near you. If you’re wanting a good video on assurance of salvation, look up “How to get assurance of salvation - Gavin Ortlund”. That should be on his Truth Unites channel.

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. It's not by faith alone. James 2:24
@CowboyPilot79 Жыл бұрын
If it's any comfort, assurance is not a requisite and doubt is not a "sign" (or perhaps an anti-sign). You will never know the ugliness of your sin, you will never even know the sum total of all of your sin. God knows that and He forgave it. As you grow in understanding of your sin it should point you to a greater appreciation for the Grace that was afforded that you didn't even recognize a need for. Count it a blessing that you are facing this at 16 =).

You don’t have to fully understand everything, because that is impossible. We cannot understand how bad our sin is because we are not God and we don’t have His perspective. You just have to understand God’s promises towards us. Trust Him.

Memorizing scripture is easy, interpreting scripture is difficult. Keith's interpretation of Ephesians leaves something to be desired. Saint Paul in Ephesians 2:8-10 never talks about justification being based on faith alone. It's talking about initial justification. Initial justification however is not the same thing as a final justification. Which we learn in Romans that eternal life is rendered according to your works. Proving justification by faith alone is not how one comes to full possession of salvation, i.e eternal life. Right now you are only sharing in eternal life. You don't have full possession of it yet.

There are a number things I wish to point out about what Keith is saying here. If you want to read a very long comment enjoy, if not then this will be a wall of text, because I have so many things I need to unpack here. Where to start? Let's start at time stamp 2:31 Keith tries to make an appeal that the early councils and creeds of the Church are not binding on the conscience of men. That they are "useful" but not as useful as "The Bible Alone". Well, Keith, you seem not understand the problem that occurs when every Christian Pastor is interpreting the Bible. Chaos ensues, the point of these Councils was in fact to do exactly what you DENY here, to bind Church teachings. The Church does actually have this authority because it was given the keys to "bind and to loose" The Bible itself is not the only "binding" authority" on men's conscience. Keith misses this and does not understand it. The Church has actual authority to bind and to loose is the first point I wish to make refuting this idea of how the Church operates by Sola Scripture (which it historically has not and never did to begin with). It sounds like what this sermon is saying is that the Word of God refers only to the Bible. If that is the case, then this is simply false. The Church does have the authority through the Councils to bind onto the conscience of Christians. I re-iterate this is because of the keys given to the Catholic Church. Matthew 16:19 "And I will give 👉YOU (not the Bible) the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever 👉YOU bind on earth [a]will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” So on one hand Kieth is saying "Yeah councils are great and all kids but we just ultimately follow scripture alone" to paraphrase him. As if only the teachings of the Bible are binding. We can see it's not like that though thanks to Matthew 16:19. He then says in time stamp 2:07 "that does not mean we ignore Church history" But we are ignoring Church history Kieth, anytime you are telling someone at your Church that baptism doesn't wash away sins, you are ignoring Church history. Anytime you are saying the Bible and not the Church has authority to bind and to loose, you are ignoring Church history. Anytime you say you do not need Apostolic succession to become a Pastor, you are ignoring Church history. In this video it talks about how traditions of men are not to be followed. My question is this, how do you know that YOU are not the one following traditions of men? Sola scripture, a tradition of man (Martin Luther) Sola Fide, a tradition of A MAN (Martin Luther). It sounds like Protestantism is rooted in traditions of men LITERALLY. Can anyone else see that? Let's continue. Time stamp 2:40 You qoute Martin Luther "My conscience is captivated by the word of God and that lays the foundation for Sola Scriptura" to paraphrase it. This is a false assumption to think the Word of God is limited to what is in the bible. We have Apostolic tradition alongside sacred scripture as part of the deposit of faith. We know we are to follow Apostolic tradition, and no person can be so "captivated" by the word of God as to invent new unsubstantiated doctrines like Sola Scripture. We have to remember, Luther had no actual ecclesiastical authority, so he did what any good person can do, he made one up. After all the Bible is the "word of God" so that means nobody can contradict his supreme authority of the Bible alone, right? It makes you pretty untouchable as far as criticism goes. Really, what's the difference between Luther holding his bible saying he follows his interpretation of the Bible alone, versus the Pope? they are both claiming some authority that cannot be challenged, the difference is the Pope can substantiate that authority, and Luther cannot. Since the Papacy predated the creation of any Bible itself. Sola Fide (Justification by faith alone) is problematic for me, because we can clearly see Saint James is not a Sole Fide following protestant man. James 2:24 "You see how a man is JUSTIFIED BY HIS WORKS, and not by faith alone". Sola Fide: "You are justified by faith alone" Is there any getting around this problem for Sola Fide enthusiasts? Sure, they will conjure up some weird way to interpret James and say "Faith produces works". But saying this does not actually reverse James saying you are not justified by faith alone. Then I've heard "He is talking about justification before men". No, he is not, because when we read James he starts talking about how Abraham was justified by God by his works when he offers his son Issac up on the cross. So no, James is not without ANY doubt talking about justification before men. So it sounds pretty obvious sola fide is just a tradition of men. Specifically one man. Luther. At time stamp 15:13 Keith then brings up the man who asks Jesus what must he do to inherit eternal life. Well, Kieth seems to intentionally skip over something about this passage, let's look at this whole passage so we can see what is being left out in this sermon. Luke 18:18-27 King James Version 18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. 20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. 21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. 22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. 24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? 27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Does Jesus tell him just have faith me alone in order to inherit eternal life? No. Jesus specifically tells him to do something, keep the commandments. What do we learn from Jesus here? That in order to merit eternal life, we must do more then believe. Jesus does not believe in the Protestant doctrine of Justification by faith alone. Protestantism has no theology to understand how merit works. So they chalk it up to this Sola Fide idea must be how it works. But Sola Fide does not seem to explain passages where Jesus does not tell people to just BELIEVE and your good. The problem is Protestantism misses that your salvation is a gift, but that it is also at the same time, a reward. Romans 2:6-16 King James Version 6 Who will render to every man according to his👉 deeds: 7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality,👉 eternal life: Eternal life is a gift, and we learn in Romans 2:6-16 it's also a reward. When God rewards our good works, he does so not based on obligation, but on a promise that he would do so. You do have to merit eternal life through your good works, which God prepared for you in advance for you to do as we learn in Ephesians. It's not as simplistic as reformers like to lay out, and because they do not understand how merit works under a system of grace they do not know how to explain passages like Romans talking about your eternal life being given to you based not on faith alone, but on your good works. 17:17 Keith says Salvation cannot be earned. Actually it can be earned, under a system of grace it is now possible to "earn salvation". Not based on strict merit however, under congruent merit. IF eternal life is rewarded according to our works, that's means we do have to do SOMETHING to merit it. You do have to earn your salvation. By being obedient to gain your reward. That is why Saint Paul wrote this: "Work out your own salvation, with fear and trembling" If all one has to do in order to get eternal life is believe, he would not have bothered writing this. 29:40 He starts to attack the idea of Purgatory and says "that is false" Well, what exactly is wrong with the doctrine of purgatory? Sin has consequences, both temporal, and eternal. For example, when King David sinned against God, he forgave David's sin. But their was still a penalty for it. You must make restitution for your sins. This concept is actually biblical Keith. Allow me to walk you and anyone reading this through it.

I am Catholic and I enjoy a lot of your funny material and your eschatology when it comes to the millennium. I think that traditional Catholic teaching teaches that we are saved by faith alone as long as it is a faith which is formed by the love of Christ poured into our hearts, not by a faith plus works. #2 the Catholic church teaches the last tense of justification meaning the moment our heart was turned to God. We call this the ACT of justification which is different from the ongoing sanctification that happens after we become Christians. This is know as the habit of justification. Catholic can believe in grace alone because all merit is only the merit of Christ . When God allows us to participate in his handiwork we can say that God crowns his own works in us as the CCC says quoting St Augustine. Purgatory would only be about the perfection of our sanctification. We believe that as king Jesus declares us justified ( actus iustifiactionus) but by his priesthood he will perfectly heal us before we enter the beatific vision ( habitus iustifiactionus) also even our faith is a gift. We also believe that our initial justification has absolutely zero to do with merit or being worthy enough . It is all grace. I enjoy listening to you, Gavin ortlund, sprouls, and even James white. You can disagree with the Catholic church but I think people should know these Catholic views. God bless and keep preaching about Jesus and making me laugh with your funny videos

You wrote: "Catholic teaching teaches that we are saved by faith alone as long as it is a faith which is formed by the love of Christ poured into our hearts, not by a faith plus works." Not quite. What the Catholic Church teaches is that your initial justification is by faith, but then that faith is completed by your good works. It is not, nor has it ever been the traditional Catholic teaching that Justification is completely by faith alone.
@nickynolfi833 Жыл бұрын
@@dman7668 nope. "Faith is the foundation of all justification" ~ council of Trent. " if Martin Luther in his teaching on faith alone means a faith that is not contrary to love then he would be right"~ pope Benedict. Thomas Aquinas also used the phrasing of faith alone. It is faith formed by Charity. That is the Catholic teaching. Fides caritate formata. It is a living faith that moves and lives. This charity aka love poured into the heart is the soul of Faith. Faith without this love is dead and saves no one. This is what James means when he says faith without works is like a body without a soul. If you die and the love of Christ is in you then you will be saved. That is Catholic teaching.

@@dman7668 as St Paul puts it we are saved by faith working through love. It is definitely not just an intellectual faith alone. @dman7668 Жыл бұрын
@@nickynolfi833 It is close with the difference as you know being they don't think justification can increase by your good works and good works in no way contribute to your justification, where as the Catholic Church teaches they do and also lead to an increase in justification.

Just some questions I see Sola scripture is fundamentally flawed because it does not reveal who Christ is. That was one of the complaints of Jesus. You need the bread in order for the scriptures to be revealed. On the road to Emmais, its after they eat the bread, they know who Jesus is, and these are people who grew up on the Torah, on the Psalms, and on the Prophets. Their culture was saturated with it. The question is, if people who knew Jesus didn't recognize him, how can we two thousand years later only through the lens of a translated text? Salvation is an ongoing thing. It is the moment but a journey. And God does not exist. That's a categorical error. What is God's wrath precisely? Why must we view God as a judge instead of a Doctor? Didn't our Lord say, I am a doctor to those who are sick (paraphrased)? Isn't a Doctor a judge, since they must examine the body or the soul? Why did you add the word 'Hell'? The wages of Sin is death, yet now it's Hell? Isn't eternal life that of God then how can Eternal Hell be that of God? Isn't that a contradiction? God then gives mercy, forgiveness, etc then at the same time does the opposite? If Salvation is from God, then how can it be by the work of Man? Believing, having faith, etc, is a work? If God is the one who saves and God has defeated death, then why is death more powerful and the one who sends people to Hell? If God is the one who sends people to Hell, then why not save everyone? Paul says he desires everyone to be saved. Hosea says that he will create a new heart in Israel (at least three times) and Ezekiel says he will redeem Sodom. Isn't the definition of faith lacking? Shoudn't it be the surrender of the self? I think of the Roman Centurion.
