The true Christian wears the helmet of salvation (alongside the breastplaate of faith and love) as he walks soberly through this world, living in the light. Paul explains something of what that means, drawing our attention to a mercy most marvellous-that God has not appointed his people for wrath, but to obtain salvation. He identifies a sacrifice most precious, for this salvation is accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ, through his death. This secures a hope most certain, for-if we have life in Christ-then whether or not we wake (live trusting in Jesus) or sleep (die trusting in Jesus), our glory with him is assured.
