At the end of the day, this is a business now. So things that do really well will likely be continued in some form or another. But even as nerdy fans of the game and players, the cast will also probably be just as hooked as we are and will want to explore this stuff further. This particular party of characters may only get four episodes, but there will almost certainly be more off-shoots to explore. Hell, this group may even get a kind of sequel mini-series like Kymal was, depending on how the story plays out in these four episodes.
@romxxii2 жыл бұрын
@@jeremyrosal6049 It's a business, but I think they still will push things that they enjoy. Original Flavor EXU was notoriously divisive and has much lower stream and VOD numbers than either mainline CR campaigns or even other one-shots run by other DMs, but they still continued the Crownkeeper story with EXU Kymal. I know for a fact I'm one of the few people who enjoy that mini-series during live streams, with plenty of people just complaining or hyper-focusing on rules interpretations.
@fictionmyth2 жыл бұрын
@@romxxii I swear, if they disconnected the thing from D&D completely, and said, "It's a home brew rules set." or something like that, it would make the toxicity so much less prevalent. The "Um, ahkchuleee!!!!" crowd are the worst. They try to suck the joy right out of everything the show does. I get that you're trying to impress other people with your knowledge of the game and its rules, that you want to keep the players and DM honest, and/or at times, try to use the rules to pick apart the story but try to do that without being insufferable. (Not YOU romxxii, just to be clear but YOU the people who do that.) It is ultimately the DM's game, the player's consent for the DM to make the game his, and none of you get a say in how any of it works. You're not there, you don't matter, and you can leave if you're unhappy. Either A) Enjoy things or B) Don't. You can also C) Talk about the things you found fault with, in relation to the show and the game's regular rules, in such a way that doesn't annoy literally everyone, informs those who might honestly want to know so they don't play/DM it wrong, and then still seem like a decent human being. There are other options, obviously, but they end with, "And have everyone roll their eyes at you, then ignore everything else you have to say, and hate you forever..."

@carlycchapman Matt previously and somewhat notoriously in earlier campaign mispronounced quay (word for a dock or small island, pronounced "key") as "qway". Maybe its just me but I find it boring and lame. And its fine if its just me. I don't understand how this makes anyone excited for D&D. If it was acting sure, this thing runs like a bad Spanish novella, but if I want to see that (and I do ocassionally) I would just tune in on the tv and would have the full experience. I understand the excitement from the on the spot acting, but where is the adventure/wonder/amusement that is so characteristic of epic fantasy? Ever since the first Season, Critical Role has been a downward spiral for me as an original fan. I saw a youtuber once comment that the whole show is carried by Matt Mercer, but I don't think even Matt can save the cascading tumble down that will eventually end without a fanbase that is Critical Role. I believe the show will reach it's peak sometime this year or next and then begin it's slow descent into oblivion.

There’s a lot more to DND than just epic fantasy and adventure, it’s one aspect sure but it should not be the only focus. Critical role isn’t on a decline, it’s numbers are only growing as it becomes more mainstream (The Legend of Vox Machina), and so your opinion doesn’t reflect the truth of the situation. And are you telling me that you watched the fist episode of EXU calamity and couldn’t find any of the “wonder/amusement” there was in campaign 1?! It’s the first episode for Christ’s sake, I’m not sure why you expected there to be adventure to rival C1. But hey if you have fallen out of love with Critical role that’s fine, but no need to share that negativity with the rest of us who are enjoying critical role as it is :)
@IceMetalPunk2 жыл бұрын
Dude, D&D (and really, all TTRPGs) is a *roleplaying game.* Roleplaying is acting. The game is about improv. Sure, you can have fantasy and adventure and kill stuff and loot bodies and level up, but you can do all those things in an RPG video game as well. What makes TTRPGs different is that each player gets to embody their character and *act* on the spot. And that's doubly true when professional actors are playing a game for an audience. If you want a home game that's all about killing stuff, you can play that yourself. When you watch a professional actual play like this or D20 or Battle for Beyond, etc., you should realize it's more like Whose Line Is It Anyway with more drama, the points do matter, and the only game is "Dice or Death".
