They picked the best people for those roles and obviously you can see why. No matter if they are friends or partners, they are a wonderful pair and I hope it stays that way. They say they are not a thing...and that may be the way it is. Yet if you think about it they live a life before "work" they have friends and family...a "life". They have a different life at "work". At work they are very much in love... They are perfect together.... they spend their lives in both worlds... Its not like a 9 to 5 job... They have to have feelings for one another... and that is perfectly ok...it makes them genuine in the show...trust, understanding, respect and maybe love. I love them both and I love OUTLANDER because of them! So Thank You Jamie and Claire...Sam and Caitriona!!
