6 hours ago I was your Atypical listener of music, but now, when I came up and out of the rabbit hole, I think I should be given an Honorary Doctorate! But for real, after watching Sam, and now You and Sam, and your past relationship as student/teacher, and the respect you have for one another as colleagues, but more so, the passion for singing. As I and others have said, It is a great experience watching a pro discuss and educate another about their craft. It would be like me reacting to eating Ice Cream.! Bada Bum! PEACE!!

@@SamJohnsonVoice it's the same with the difference between male and female voices. For instance, if you compare Pavarotti to Katherine Jenkins. Their respective vocal ranges over-lap but the quality of their voice remains distinct, with Katherine focusing on the heavier sound at the back of the throat while Pav does his thing in his "head-voice", at least that's how you can look at it when their singing the same note. I feel that even though Opera isn't quite as in demand compared to today's music, it lays a good foundation for what your singing voice can do if trained properly. You can go off into your own different style once you learn how to use your voice and Opera/classical techniques are the best way to learn it how to explore your voice. People just need to realize that just because you trained your voice like that doesn't mean you have to sing like that in profession. Look at Mariah Carey, her mother is an opera singer, yet despite her opera-like training, she doesn't use an opera-voice when she sings, but she incorporates some opera techniques in her singing.

I am bricklayer with tattoos and i look like a rough dude and liking operatic music is the uncoolist thing imaginable but i find myself sharing my love for Pavarotti with whoever will listen because i dont want anyone to miss out on the most amazing experience that i stumbled apon. thanks for the vid

I'd love to see you react to more songs in languages other than English and Korean! During your explanation of how you like singing that sounds like speaking I couldn't help but to think of a Dutch singer Herman van Veen. His songs always remind me more of a grandfather telling a sweet bedtime story than something sing-songy (not sure that's a word). His best known song is called Anne and my own favourite is Het Dorp. They aren't very flashy songs so I don't know if they'd make a good video for on KZbin, but I thought you might enjoy his style of music.

Pavarotti: Man chases power but he doesn't know that the great limit has to be how it will be done. In the palm he holds an idea who does not live, that in his fantasy… he wanted if you don't notice that then nothing makes sense anymore if one lives only for oneself. ------------------------------------------------------------------ It's a Man's Man's Man's World lyrics Artist: Luciano Pavarotti •Featuring artist: James Brown Album: Pavarotti & Friends Brown: This is a man's world, this is a man's world and But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing, nothing Without a woman or a girl You see, man made the cars To take us over the road Man made the trains To carry heavy loads Man made electric lights To take us out of the dark And man made the boat for the water, Like my bible says Noah made the ark This is a man's world But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing, nothing Without a woman or a girl Pavarotti: L'uomo rincorre il potere ma lui non sa che il grande limite ha da essere come si fará. Nel palmo stringe un ‘idea che non vive, che nella sua fantasia… volle se non si accorge che poi nulla ha piú senso se si vive solo per sé. Brown: Man thinks about a little bitty baby girl And a baby boy Man makes then happy Because man makes them toys And after man made other things he can Man makes liras, pesos, dollars, rupees To buy for every good woman and every man This is a man's world, Pavarotti: Nulla ha piú senso se si vive solo per sé. Brown: But it wouldn't be nothing, Without a woman or a girl. Pavarotti: Solo per sé. Brown: He's lost in the wilderness, He's lost in bitterness. I think people respond well to singers (especially singers who act) who sing in the same voice as they speak. If the tone and range are the same, it hits you right there. Think Judy Garland.

I can’t imagine someone saying that women singing in chest voice is wrong in a world where YEBBA exists

People seem to forget that before the 1970s majority of the stuff below A4, even for the highest sopranos was done in chest voice.

I'm sure you have but have you seen the opera duo Charlotte and Jonathon duo 2012 I think. He's gone on to be an amazing tenor! Would love to see a reaction to him 💚

I didn't understand what Pavarotti was singing. I mean, he was brilliant, but how did it relate to what James Brown sang? Also does Sam Johnson have perfect pitch, because he was able to identify the notes James Brown was singing.

@@Jdot2tact want me to repeat what I said? The greatest signers of all time don’t lip sync on stage with great regularity. Nothing you say will change that fact. I didn’t ask if he was a performer or about any other aspect of his act.

I can never un-hear the flavor Pavarotti added to this song. It has a different spirit that's dragging out what one usually knows how it should be sang and the basis is always the James Brown way. Pavarotti was rich and strong. Can't believe I'm only watching this now.
