Sam Ash NYC Closing Thoughts and A Quick Demo of the Sterling HH

I've visited that store several times over the year, and I really loved going there when I was in NYC for a business trip. To be honest, I've really enjoyed searching Sam Ash online, and I've made a ton of really great purchased from them, and I'm really really going to miss Sam Ash, like I miss 48th Street Music, Manny's, Daddy's Junky Music, and all the others that have left us over the last few years. I used to be so thrilled to go to NYC.

Thanks so much for the walk and talk. I was at the Manhattan store years ago, just visiting as a tourist. It was memorable for good reasons, and I had dreamt of returning. Guess that won't be the case now. 😢

Unfortunately, I have had very few positive experiences with any big music gear chain. There are almost always attitudes, obnoxious customers (and sometimes employees too) that think they know everything, and on top of that the instruments are rarely set up properly. I have often walked into one with the full intention of spending some serious money but ended up walking out with nothing. I can only imagine how bad the Manhattan ones are. So sad!

That Sterling looks amazing. Why are people acting up in there?

I'm not kidding - That Sterling was the best playing & sounding Stingray I have ever picked up. My only gripe would be its weight but I'd still take it anyway. Other than my 66' P bass, I would literally give up all of my other fretted basses to own it. As for the people in the store, New York attitude was part of it. Manhattan is crawling with weirdos and some of those weirdos go into music stores and cause trouble for the staff. There were also some unruly customers who acted as if they knew everything. They didn't show any empathy for what the employees are going through at all. Then to top it off, they created this dreadful top 40 soundtrack that you should never hear in a music store. All of that made for an unsavory last experience at Sam Ash Manhattan. It was like running for your life, as you look back and watch old friends parish in the clutches of zombies.

@@progrockjock jeez that's sounds grim. I've not been to New York but I can imagine. A bit like London, full of tossers, junkies & know it alls....but I hear it's better now that I've stopped going 🤣🤣🤭. That Sterling did look a sweetheart. I had a Ray34 for a while that was definitely heavier than my EBMM Stingray but not an issue.

I’ve always referred to London as a much cleaner Manhattan, especially with the Underground but I’ve only been to London once. I spent only a week there but I loved it. New York, on the other hand, I’ve been to countless times, so I’ve gotten to know it.
