Sam Heughan as Paul Newman for his film To Olivia

A new film featuring Sam Heughan is coming to theaters and Sky Cinema in February 2021
Outlander star Sam Heughan has a new film coming out in February called To Olivia. The film is a biopic about the lives of Roald Dahl, author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Patricia Neal, an Oscar-winning actress. Sam plays actor Paul Newman.
Hugh Bonneville of Downton Abbey fame plays Roald Dahl while his wife Patricia Neal is played by Keeley Hawes from Bodyguard. According to Yahoo!News, the cast is all British and also includes Geoffrey Palmer and Conleth Hill. John Hay is the film’s director.
Sam Heughan’s involvement in the film was announced late last year. Paul Newman starred with Patricia Neal in the 1963 film Hud. Both of them were nominated for Oscars for the film, and Neal won. Sam’s role will be relatively small since To Olivia focuses on Dahl and Neal’s private lives.

Sam, Paul Newman was the it man of the 60's. Grew up idolizing him watching all of his movies that I could. His eyes good lord the man has a gaze that makes grown women swoon. I think your perfect for the part except you may need contacts to try to lighten your eyes to get the shade right. But damn man you have his moves! You are gonna kill this part! Pat Neal was one of my Mom's best friends. A very elegant and larger than life person. She was a really strong presence when she walked into a room. I think the other gentleman is supposed to be Marty Ritt who was close with my dad. Neither of these people was hesitant or shy. Both really interesting and complex people.

I really think this movie will be great. Pat Neal was an epic actress. Paul Newman was sex personnified. Loved his blue eyes and what I call the Newman grin. Sam will do an honorable take on Paul, I am certain. The story will be one to remember.

I’ve always been fascinated by Dahl and, especially, Neal. She had a solid Hollywood career, but had more success on the Broadway stage. An absolutely magnetic presence - you can watch her interviews on KZbin - and her near-death from a stroke, along with her son’s near-dear in a cab accident, and of course her daughter Olivia’s death. One wonders how she had the strength to continue. Neal wrote a fascinating autobiography, and was very frank about her love affair with Gary Cooper.

A while as I am old enough to be your grdmum & you are getting better as you get older! Yes 1/2 to 3/4 Scotish & Irish did gene tests & family geneology that is why I starting watching Outlander because I luved Sean in the first Highlander. Huge fan of Sean Connery as was my father USAF retired Col went to Lakenheath during the cold war days he read James Bond books there & back flew C130s to Germany. Exactly my thoughts, Sarah! When he put the hat on, the expressions on his face and body gestures as he went through the lines were perfect Paul Newman, to the extent that I had a really strange dizzying experience where I knew I was actually watching Paul Newman in that role. Well, so it seemed. A truly weird but very real sensation in which I saw Paul Newman as surely as I did when I saw “Hud” in theaters when I was 25. (Giving away my age there…) Sam done good.

I saw an interview where he said he had one when he was young, but after living in London so long, and on purpose for his acting career, he'd lost a lot of it. For Outlander they got an accent coach to train him back into it. They don't want it heavy, though, or the Americans (most of their audience) wouldn't understand him. He did not speak any Gaelig and they had to teach almost all of them that. Cait speaks the Irish Gaelic but it's too different from the Scots Gaelig for her to understand. In another interview you could hear a Scots stagehand behind him say something. The interviewer asked if he understood that. He grinned and said "Of course. It's perfect English." and then repeated it himself. The non-Scots didn't understand a word, which he expected of course, because he laughed.

I don't think Keely did Patricia's husky, almost gravely, voice any justice. Keely also didn't play the character of the cook as edgy and nervous as Patricia did. Sam could have played Newman as a bit more menacing - where are those icy blue eyes?

Just embarrassing for Sam H, the director, casting person, accent coach, etc. This noted, I truly like/appreicate Sam Heughan for the active, striving and hard-working, charitable and creative individual that he appears to be. Very much wish this fellow well in his life and entrepreneurial business in entertainment and the creation and selling of 'spirits'! I also respect SH's compelling acting in Outlander; and wonder if perhaps Sam H is actually somewhat like the very likable, maturing before our eyes, responsible and dashing, and now large-living character of Outlander's Jamie Fraser -- in his real life. In Outlander, the character tone & development, depth and range of his quality acting performances in the series as Jamie matures (& not just the steamy scenes!) are outstanding. Sam should be recognized for carrying much of the popular series, and for being one of the central and most compelling, well-acted parts in that strong cast with its deeply researched, strong content. Alas, in this film, the acting here is embarrassingly poor, and Sam's - very much NOT Paul Newman in spirit, energy, presence, accent, or tonal quality or motivation,. This production has failed to convey the likeness, dynamism and intelligence, strength and complex vulnerability-appeal of the compelling (and not just 'sexy') actor who was Paul Newman. Not believable in any way! (Add that the accent coach apparently was MIA! Dreadful and OMG.) Hope Sam H's upcoming film with Priyanka Chopra will be a better directed, better cast, and better acted role , too.

I really like Sam Heughan as an actor. I loved Paul Newman. Not intended a an offense to him but if he is going to continue to take American roles he's going to need to work on covering that Scottish accent. It definitely breaks through at times. But then again He's working off of playing Paul Newman in a particular scene here so he's trying to portray a norther Ohio Man (Paul Newman) doing a west Texas Panhandle accent.

I was not a big fan of Patricia Neal. But every time I heard her voice I knew it was her. I most remember her for in "Harms Way" with John Wayne and "The Home coming" It was the first adaptation of the Walton Family. She played Olivia Walton.
