Beltway 8 (BW8), the Sam Houston Parkway, along with the Sam Houston Tollway, is an 88-mile (142 km) beltway around the city of Houston, Texas, United States, lying entirely within Harris County.
Beltway 8, a state highway, runs mostly along the frontage roads of the tollway, only using the main lanes where they are free: between Interstate 45 (I-45, North Freeway) and Interstate 69/US Highway 59 (I-69/US 59, Eastex Freeway); and between US Highway 90 (Crosby Freeway) and I-10 (Baytown-East Freeway). The main lanes elsewhere are the Sam Houston Tollway, a toll road owned and operated by the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA). East of Houston, the tollway crosses the Houston Ship Channel on the Sam Houston Ship Channel Bridge, a toll bridge; this forms a gap in Beltway 8 between I-10 (Baytown-East Freeway) and State Highway 225 (SH 225, La Porte Freeway).
Beltway 8 is the intermediate beltway in the Houston area. The inner beltway-I-610-lies mostly within Houston (except for an approximate two-mile (3.2 km) stretch that runs through the City of Bellaire), and the outer beltway-SH 99 (Grand Parkway)-is currently open to traffic, with other various segments under construction, or planning.
Like other toll roads in the Houston area, the speed limit is 65 mph (105 km/h).

This beltway is easily one of my top 3 favorite freeways in the state. Back to back stack interchanges, a 65 mph speed limit, and just a beautiful 8-laned beltway. Can't wait to see what that bridge will look like in about 2 years! 😁😁

I think I was born around that time, but I really remember how south of the Beltway was just a regular 4-laned freeway and looked like a original bypass meeting TX-288.

I’m just becoming aware that this over took Cincinnatis I-275 as the nations largest beltway 😔😔 shout out to Houston the beat us by 2 miles. (88miles to 86 miles) but ours does enter three states

A parkway isn’t an outer belt. A belt has to connect. The Grand Parkway will not. And it’s more of a highway around surrounding counties than Houston’s inner Core. It would be like us building a parkway around Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, Hamilton, Middletown etc. Nice to know though, just isn’t the same as I-275 or I-610

The longest beltway, but very mediocre to be in the state's largest city, and the 4th in the U.S. For the amount of traffic, it should have at least 8 lanes on each direction, so not everything in Texas is bigger

The traffic on this toll way isn't that bad. It's one of many major freeways and toll ways in houston. 8 lanes on each side would be complete over kill for this part of Houston. The Katy freeway which goes east to west is the widest in north America and possibly the widest in the world with some parts being 24 lanes in total width.

The frontage/service/feeder roads and the shoulders DONT count as lanes nor part of an interstate highway NOR a freeway!! I dont know where in the hell you read that crap. I-75 and I-85 north of Atlanta GA are much much wider than the so called Katy freeway. Wherever you read that is FAKE NEWS

Yes I-75 @ the I-285 interchange near Marietta, GA has the most thru/travel lanes making it the widest thru lane road in the world, but Katy Freeway is still considered to be the widest Freeway in the world

@@w-josh feeder roads DONT count as part of a FREEWAY/EXPRESSWAY. An interstate highway and a freeway/expressway DO NOT have signal lights, driveways, crossovers. Again, wherever you read that, is FAKE, whoever wrote or claim that, is an ignorant who has no idea about the interstate highway system. Guess why there are signs of the name of the road at the entrance ramps with arrows pointing towards the restricted access lanes.
