I had my brakes fail on an old Toyota pickup. It was raining and I was approaching a line of cars stopped at a red light, so I started to gently apply the brakes, but nothing happened. So I pushed on the brake pedal harder and it went nearly to the floor, but just at the bottom my brakes started working, fully. As in they locked up. I was thankfully going pretty slow, but not slow enough as I skidded on the wet blacktop onto the back of a lady's Jeep SUV. I couldn't have run into her softer if I had tried, but she freaked out. Which I understand(car accident, I was at fault) but the only damage was a rip in her Harley Davidson spare tire cover. She got so crazy a guy came over from the sidewalk and said, "Man you barely touched her car and it she tried to sue you I'll testify to that in court.". Which was awesome of that guy but she never sued, my insurance just had to pay $800. I know Harley stuff is expensive, but that's ridiculous haha. After exchanging insurance info I drove straight to Napa Auto parts. Driving a manual transmission up and down hills in traffic with brakes that either don't work or are on full lock is pretty difficult. But I made it all the way to Napa without hitting anyone. And then when I pulled into the Napa parking lot I ran into the building😂. Couldn't stop. Somehow no one noticed haha. The building was cinder block and all it did was smash my bumper bull bar. Which is when I realized bull bars are stupid and useless. Anyway I bought a new master cylinder and changed it in the parking lot. When I took the old master cylinder off(which looked like it had been replaced by a previous owner) I saw that the mc body was broken inside and leaking internally. After installing the new one I never had a problem again. I have an old Chevy truck now and I made damn sure to fix the emergency brake in case something like that ever happened again. Next time I'll tell you how that old Toyota jumped a block and started rolling downhill, picking up speed towards a Casey's gas station...

My main issue with a manual was trying to stop on a hill then accelerate again, as my brakes were failing more and more on the way to Napa. A smart person would have stopped driving the truck and gotten a ride or some other solution that didn't involve potentially running into people and objects

@@mikem5475 not every car has one. And even if they do, many old cars have inoperable hand(emergency) brakes. It's very common for the cables to get rusty, seize, and break. The Toyota's emergency brake didn't work.
