One thing I could never get past with Chapelle is that midway through a standup special, he'll go into some serious story involving racial dynamics, but it's always missing so much of the actual details you can't help but wonder where he got his version of the story from.

2 examples come to mind: In For What it's Worth: he talks about a story where a 15 year old was given life in jail for "accidentally killing his neighbor while practicing wrestling moves". This is by far, the most innocent way of explaining what that dude actually did in that story. Where would you get such an insane mischaracterization of that story, if you weren't intentionally leaving details out? On one of his Netflix specials he refers to the Emmett Till case, claiming the accuser said on her deathbed that she made the whole story up. This claim is false, and was known to be false for years prior to this special, and now, since millions of people saw him lie about it, this false story is back in the public eye as though it's true, and has largely become conversational at this point

@@Gonboo Emmett Till was basically murdered by a lynch mob for whistling and flirting/making unwanted advances on a white woman. What happened to him was clearly an unjustifiable response to what he did. In his special, Chapelle cited an interview that occurred in like 2008 (>50 years after this happened) with the woman who claimed she was being harassed by Emmett. The interviewer claimed that she said off camera that her original testimony, the one which eventually led to him being killed, was a lie. She herself denies saying this, and the interviewer has no footage/tapes of it, and there are additional details from other witnesses who would corroborate her original testimony, etc. In other words, the 2008 interviewer was just lying for the sake of a more interesting story or whatever. Chapelle probably read this story, and then went around spouting it off as fact without looking into this more. You can just go to Wikipedia and find more on this. What happened to Emmett Till was clearly wrong. Chapelle doesn't need to lie about it in order for basically anyone to understand who was in the wrong. And that's the shitty thing: when he DOES lie about it, you're forced to defend those who did something wrong, just for the sake of truth.

The one that got me was basically a 10 minute bit where he was exaggerating on how only recently whites(particularly ones that live in rural areas) are now starting to see how corrupt the government is whereas blacks have always known. It wasn't even all that funny, he was just blatantly wrong and soaking in those brownie points from deluded people that think he's the most controversial comedian ever lol. The truth is he only sprinkles in controversial stuff and "speaks da truth" when it's convenient and safe for him. I've said the same about Chappelle and nobody agrees. This is the first time I've heard another say it. I grew up on old Def Comedy Jam tapes and I have seen plenty of old Chappelle. It's ok. His show gained him the status he has now...which was written by about 4 dudes, two of which are white. Great show but it's not his comedy. Dave is a master storyteller and he is physically funny. The way he says things is funnier than what he's saying, the joke itself. This allows him to just say anything and punctuate it with a look or his famous "word?" and get laughs. Lately he's just not funny, IMO. He bought in to the "I'm the greatest" talk and all I see and hear from him now is ego. Even his stories are kinda lame now as they all revolve around how awesome he is.

I've learned to ignore all of the "WHYPIPO BAD" skits from K&P, because the rest of their skits are good enough to where I can't knock them for it. Dave Chappelle on the otherhand is a hit or miss for me. For every one thing he says that I agree with him, he says two incredibly stupid things that make me wanna Game End myself. Like I get it. Growing up as a non-White in America, you're constantly told that Whypipo are all out to get you and that they're all mysteriously racist for some unknown reason, and that the hatred is imbedded into the genes of Whytes. But at the same time both Dave and K&P are middle aged men, they should entirely know better now that not everyone from one race is a bad guy that doesn't respect you or whatever. In their shoes, you should have met enough Whyte Guilters (especially living in California) at this point to realize "Hey, maybe not everyone from this one group of people is a scary hooded monster?" Growing up as Whyte in America, I've been constantly told left and right that I should respect people for who they are and not judge others for the color of their skin. And while I've done a good job of doing that, outside of jokes obviously, it feels like I still get punished for it. It feels like it's truly not good enough. Someone else in this comment section said that the Black Comedian obsession on critiquing White people is frustrating, and I think I can explain why; It kinda gives off the impression that being on equal footing isn't good enough, and that revenge is the only way to "correct the past" Obviously that's not at all what Dave and K&P want. At least I hope not. But some of their jokes certainly do give off that vibe. I just know that if it was the other way around, where I was a Whyte comedian critiquing Black people non-stop, I'd be fired and banned from every comedy club in the continental US.

I have the exact opposite opinion on Dave Chapelle. Old standup was great, maybe somewhat dated at this point but undeniably funny. The last 3-4 specials he did had some moments, but for the most part, they were like Black Nanette. The greatest thing he ever did, by a long shot, was Chapelle Show - which he walked away from and "had to go hide in Africa" because bad whites were turning him gay, allegedly.
