The issue with what Vivek said was the notion that "Americans are lazy, and the only solution is to replace them in their own country." it leads into Sam's other point about why young men wouldn't want to have children when they can't even support themselves. Corporations continue to find ways to replace Americans with cheap labor from overseas that they can hot swap whenever something cheaper comes along; this is not an issue with American culture, but a tactical decision made in the name of increasing revenue. The job market is abandoning its own citizens and then calling them lazy for not being able to keep up with slave labor.
@igooog23 сағат бұрын

@Volpone2119 сағат бұрын
The other issue is its total bullshit, his characterization of the American worker. The H1-B visa program didn't start till the late 90's. American was total shithole before then right? America went to the the moon, the space program as a whole, personal computers, Apple, Windows, artificial heart, dna fingerprinting. We were doing just fine before we had that program. America was already a beacon of prosperity and leading the world in technology. Its why everyone wants to move here. Now we have been dealing with DEI for at least the last 10 years which have effectively blackballed straight white men from STEM. Tech wants indentured workers who will work 80 hours a week for less pay and be subservient. His comments were a total insult to every American. They want to do to tech what southern immigrants did to agriculture, manufacturing, & construction. Hallow it out by flooding it with cheap labor

"You have to accept a lower standard of living so we can compete with China!" Actually, part of why America is so exceptional is _because_ of our high standard of living. When we have a future to work toward, we can accomplish anything. But when the economy is rigged against us and we're merely staving off collapse, what's the point of anything?
@XHitsugaX16 сағат бұрын
US is no longer exceptional. That time has sailed. GDP is not an indicator for exceptionalism. US higher education is still good if you got them coins. But outside of that USA is heavy on the downtrend. Not just USA Europe too. USA also no longer has a high standard of living for a first world country for the average working class person. That boat has sailed too. Country was fleeced by the 1%. Americans work more hours than the Japanese and most americans outside of upper and upper middle class can not afford a 1500 Dollar Surprise Bill. USA has the highest amount of medical bankruptcy in the world even surpassing some third world nations. My aunt went to Belarus for her cancer treatment. She got it for free. The easiest way to judge a demographic is to look at where they have the highest concentration of their own kind. For example, if we are talking about Indians then look at India. If they were so good at engineering, then why did Europeans beat them to space and invent almost everything used today? Shouldnt India have the most advanced tech systems? What computer brand do you use from India? What Indian car are you driving? What Indian tech company is everyone using? Just an example anyways.

Of course, it’s a flaw in our system that is made worse and worse every day. The result of this thinking will have the same effect on our high tech that shipping manufacturing to China had on almost every cheap plastic thing we buy. The only winners are scumbags like Elon, whose projects are almost entirely failures anyway. More broadly, non-citizen employment, whether that be visas or undocumented, has always served the purpose of indentured servitude. That's been an open secret since forever. America (since at least the 80's) has had more college educated job seekers then they know what to do with. So what are 99% of H1B visas used for? For the same reason we outsource jobs: to use workers that are much cheaper and exploitable. 80 hour work week? They can't quit or they risk losing every thing. On paper the law should protect them, but in practice it doesn't. In short, H1B is used to circumvent labor laws and drop wages. It's motivations are unambiguously evil.

It's the same way they have ruined the trucking industry. Western express piles 3 migrants in one truck under 3 month work visas and pay them 20 - 30 cents a mile and hot swap them out when the visas run out. You just haven't known about it because a lot of old truckers aren't on social media letting you know.
@HeavyReign12Күн бұрын
My dad has been trucking for 40+ years now. He talks about this a lot to me, it really sucks. Truckers used to be seen as the first-first responders, they helped people out, gave broke down people rides. On narrow roads with blind corners they'd call over the CB radios to other trucks that another car was at risk because they were crossing the line a lot. Also so that trucks wouldn't meet each other on a blind corner going 60+mph. He also said that if you didn't warn someone you were coming into the blind corner section and had a near miss you'd track that trucker down and beat the shit out of them. Those CB radios were like COD lobbies back then too, and my dad said it was pretty fun, but people looked out for each other. Now he said there's nobody talking or communicating, and that they leave their high beams on and can't even speak English when he does try to tell them something. Completely destroys the love you should have for your neighbor.
@bain90000Күн бұрын
@HeavyReign12 Having worked in the industry I can tell you a solid 60 - 70% of the trucks that came through had a foreign driver and its more often than not that they dont understand English or even know how to drive. It's not safe and it's ruined the trucking rates for Americans. Not to mention none of them know how to do a proper pre trip inspection and half of them are riding around with no brakes, bald tires, air leaks, broken mirrors, and their trailers are damaged from hitting things. They have entirely ruined an industry.

At my work we have a revolving door of unqualified immigrants for a no-skill labor job. They're usually from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. They can't speak english too well, it takes them forever to learn anything, and once they learn something, they don't work even close to the pace they need to. It's gotten so bad that it now takes two people to do a job I used to do alone, but I've been moved to another skilled labor job, and I'm still underpaid. I'd leave but I'm still in college and don't want to rock the boat while I'm paying for it mostly out of my own pocket. The turnover rate was so bad, HR actually had to question if it was my fault the latest new hire couldn't meet criteria (I used to do the job alone, and therefore train them before going back to my official position). Before the matter could be officially investigated, the HR lady asked one of the new workers to help her set up for a company lunch. He was so useless AT SETTING UP FOR A LUNCH that she immediately understood it wasn't my fault, apologized to me for even suggesting it, and then got rid of him as soon as she could.
