Sam Kinison's second appearance on the Tonight Show with David Letterman, 1-27-1986

Priceless! I remember seeing this live back in winter of 86 when I was up late studying in college. I was blown away and thirsted for the comedy of Kinison ever since. What a load of comedy packed into such a short time. These first 2 Letterman appearances are the best. They're edited versions of the HBO special, as you'd hope. But they were Sam in his earliest, rawest years. So full of life. I never get enough of his video stuff.

So, ... 35 yrs later... we don't even have talk show hosts that would dare give us bold/thinking comedy like this. I'd rather watch a cardboard cutout or blank screen than Kimmel or Fallon. Steve Allen, Carson, Letterman... those were the real deal.
@davidb22063 жыл бұрын
It's like they were ordered, today, to just slam Trump all night and pretend that it's funny. It's not. None of the late show hosts and Carson did that in previous decades. Because it wears thin and is not funny.

Sam Kinison and Bill Hicks performed together in Houston. It is my understanding that they mutually respected eachother and worked out their material in the same place. The bit about how we kill all the people who try to help us wasn't stolen. I'm sure one of them shared it with the other. They both have offered a lot of sanity to me.

Yes. They both started in Houston. Bill went on to what he called hi UFO tour and Sam went on to the big-time. In the Bill Hicks documentary, it said they were friends. However, Bill got a very early role on a forgettable sitcom. Kinison felt they he should’ve been paid cuz he helped Bill early in his career. Bill declined and their friendship was pretty much over. Hicks and Kinison were great. I think Hicks was smarter, but was gettin into darker subjects. Whereas Kinison’s was bout dating, sex, partying, pop culture but they were both better than Dice Clay put together.

Martin Whalley Wrong. You obviously aren’t clear on when US elections are held. Reagan was elected to his second term in November 1984 and he was sworn in January 21, 1985, NOT January 21, 1986. The Bears 15-1 season was in the fall of 1985 (which they subsequently won the Super Bowl) and was already well into the first year of Reagan’s second term. Get your facts straight.

Is that a time traveling glitch year?? I new it was in 85 or 86 couldn't recal mass media news event that captured all the globe's attention that year, so now we know 1986 was a simulation reboot along with 9/11/01 and up to 11/9/2016 average reboot event time range between 15 to 17 to 20 years depending on generation x's life marker events...

Thanks for making me feel OLD, Ryan!!! I was exactly 19 when this aired. Literally, that was my 19th birthday. The Challenger disaster happened the next day. But yeah, Sam was hilarious. Saw him in concert at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, California in the early 90's. Like Sam himself, it's not there anymore. Just office buildings now. :-(

Man, I loved this guy. In the 90s I bought three of his albums. It was a different world back then. Today people will let the snowflakes have a voice. Back in the 80s and 90s the snowflakes got their asses kicked because they were snowflakes. - Poor Sammy. If he had lived he wouldn't survive in today's comedy world. It pains me to say it, but I'm glad Sammy didn't live to see a post 9/11 world. It's a travesty.

Here's an example of Sam Kinison when he's high. I prefer his performances when he was on coke though because he brought a unique, exhilarating energy with him when he was high in contrast to his later, sober performances. I love his untouchable excitement he displayed each and every performance.
@FormerlyFlightsuit15 жыл бұрын
Ampoh, Thanks for uploading this and Kinnison's first appearance on Letterman. One thing, though: In your descriptions for both uploads, you describe this as "The Tonight Show," which is incorrect. This is, in fact, "Late NIght with David Letterman."

Never found SK particularly funny but it broke my heart that he worked hard to get sober only to be killed in an auto accident by a drunk kid.
