I knew Sam Kinison. We performed together at the Improv and Comedy Store in W. Hollywood. We use to hang out and eat together with several other comedians. I remember him sharing with me that he used to be a preacher. Little did I know, I would soon encounter a severe painful heartbreaking experience of Divorce similar to what he experienced when he left preaching and went into comedy. In 1982 I it seemed Comedy was not meeting my need of healing. It wasn't satisfying or fun anymore. I contemplated suicide, hurting someone but one day while attending UCLA as a student, a nursing student said to me, "WHY DON'T YOU TRY JESUS"? I decided then, that I would try him. That's when everything changed. I sensed a call on my life, surrendered all my talents (including comedy) to Him, and soon found myself transferring from UCLA to Oakwood College in Alabama to study ministry in the fall of that year. Since that time I have served God in Ministry Pastoring for the last 36 years. He has truly shown me that a Merry heart Doeth Good Like a Medicine. Humor sometimes comes out but the greater purpose is to project His healing grace, and His peace. That's I found something beautiful in my life. I wish I could have heard Sam sing that song, heard him preach and minister. I never knew that the love of God was still in him. Hearing this sermon tell me that he never left God and God never left him. He knew who the real enemy was. I believe in the closing moments of his life he turned to his compassionate Savior, repented, and found forgiveness. Thank you for posting.

That's because you've got a Good sized hole in your heart, I know I did. I even grew up in a fairly religious house, but no real conviction because I thought I knew best and didn't want to be a "weird religious person", but I believed in God right up until I deployed with the US military. You know the saying, "there's no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole", well I was the opposite, for years I thought there's no way God could be real after seeing the things I did as a young Infantryman in early to mid OEF/OIF. A few years later during the ISIS conflict, I saw an ISIS video of a Christian being burned alive and in that moment I felt like I had seen the Devil in the flesh and I knew God was real and was calling me to help the persecuted Christians. I went back over and ended up as a volunteer combat medic with the Kurdish Peshmerga and worked closely with Iraqi IDPs (internally displaced peoples) and Syrian refugees, some of whom were Christian but were all God's children. I didn't do much, but it was a good experience that gave me a lot of perspective, plus standing in the Nineveh Plains of the Bible and fighting along side the Dwekh Nawsha (an Assyrian Christian militia in northern Iraq) really taught me what living your faith truly is, ready to die for Christ and His people, regardless of whether they believe in Him or not, that's not for us to judge. The months leading up to my going over there, I started going back to Church, my wife and I got married in the Church (convalidation, not like re-married, just made official in the eyes of the Church), got my kids baptized, and instituted daily family prayer and family Bible study in my house that we continue to this day. We are all capable of finding our way back to God or discovering Him for the first time, it doesn't matter to Him, just that you believe and try to live a Christ like life. No more living for yourself, the world is bigger than you and I, we are here to serve. People would be a lot happier if they weren't so selfish and greedy for material things, that's why they're so miserable because it's never enough stuff. They'd be amazed at the true happiness faith can bring, but they are so self involved that they THINK they know all the answers, but those people are typically the most clueless and lacking in civic virtue.

@Darren McGowand I couldn't possibly care any less what you think of my return to God, it's not a tactic, I was inspired by God to not only return to my Faith but also live my Faith by the sword. I think you're just jealous I'm not a LARPing moron and actually get off my couch and that makes you self conscious about being an underachiever so here you are projecting. Common atheist tactic, project their "religion" onto Christians, the difference between us is that we're right. You have a Hollywood perception of Christianity and see tons of p*otestants trying to cash in on their Fath, I've have never and will never do that. I share my experiences for others because they might get a similar calling. You're just peddling your atheism because you don't understand what you're virtue signaling against in the first place. This modern version of Christianity is bastardized and modernized version and Vatican 2 was just a protestantization of the Church to make it more progressive and stray further from its roots, so much so that young Catholics like myself, well early 30s, don't want this modern garbage and seek a return to tradition and that terrifies people like you because if it were to ever catch on, it would threaten your degenerate way of life. You just want to live a life free of personal responsibility from all the damage you've caused with your filthy and Godless society. The more they suffocated Christianity out of society, the more hedonistic, materialistic, gluttonous, slothful, and lustful society has become and it's not a good thing. Each decade has just been more repulsive than the rest. Whether you like it or not God is very real and you'll have to answer for all this one day, including willfully rejecting him because of your foolish and selfish hubris. All you care about is yourself, you just virtue signal about all this inclusive garbage so your degenerate ways will be accepted. That's all this is, you want to live the good life regardless of how its going to affect future generations. We're doing irreparable damage to society and there will be a violent and bloody reset and return to tradition because weak people like you are more concerned with your earthly pleasures and people like me are preparing their minds, bodies, and souls for the hard times ahead, those hard times were created by weak men like you. Hard men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times, hard times create hard men and that's EXACTLY what you're doing. They shoved us out of mainstream society but there's FAR MORE people like me than they let on because you would all be terrified if you knew just what how few of you there really are. People are getting fed up with this degenerate society. Plus, we reject the left vs right dichotomy because we're not sheep like you

Jahovas witnesses ; Mormons; Baptists; Methodists; are later that the OG reformed churches of Anglican ; Lutheran and Prespretarian We know that the King James English translation of the Bible was written in 1611 and followed the tradition of English Bibles that really only went back about 100 years. So there is a 1500 year gap where it was only the Roman church of the city of Rome and Constantinople. So called east and West christianity. Yet people disregard mormanism because its so recent. rightly too by the way. so there's no reason to think that any of these American denominations are right. So I will agree that your comment is right in the sense that if it was in God's plan to save his real Church until 1700 years after christs death on a different continent; and different language; then certainly God uses Kinison 's voice to save the lost I say all of that because what all these Baptist and so on say constitute a true Christian is a standard that was set up a little under three hundred years ago

We sure do. For a couple decades he lived like the devil and blasphemed Jesus regularly. Jesus said; " You will know them by their FRUIT..." Sam's fruit was rotten. We can hope he had a death bed repentance, but leading up to that moment, he was clearly and enemy of God. Hoping for last second salvation is pure folly. I hope he had a mental conversion before he died, because nothing he did up to that point leads us to believe he did. Sure only God knows at this point. What bothers me is that people think it's a done deal, like Sam is automatically in heaven, despite being a vile enemy of Jesus right up to those last seconds. I wouldn't assume it. In fact, I wouldn't count on it.

Testimony - Between the ages of 15-25 I was a bum, alcoholic, fornicator, adulterer…Couldn’t do nothing in life and had a lazy work ethic…Was a stand-up comedian for 2 years because I saw Sam Kinison perform and I felt I related to him and tried to emulate him in my life. I did. Fornication, adultery, filthy mouth, etc… I appeared in comedy clubs in Philadelphia and South Florida. I was performing at a club where Franklin Ajaye was the headliner and Brian Regan was the opening act. I was one of the other six comedians on the bill that night. I thought I was on my way to fame and fortune. A few years later Sam Kinison died and that “rocked” my world. I thought man if he could die like that (suddenly) who am I? All of my heroes were dead now - Moe, Larry, Curly, Ronnie Van Zant, Elvis Presley, etc..Now, Sam Kinision. I realized that life is futile and fleeting and fame and money will not save you in that hour of death… Eventually I realized I was a sinner in the hands of a Holy God. I had broken all of the TEN COMMANDMENTS and there was no hope for my soul. I was guilty. One Sunday night in 1992 instead of watching football or the tv show Married with Children I went to Church and heard an evangelist preach and I knew God was speaking to me through his son Jesus Christ. (Romans 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved) Well, I called upon Jesus to save me, and I was at that same instant. All of the pain and heartbrokeness that I experienced in my life left me. Almost like invisible weights that held me down my whole life left me and I have not been the same since. That same peace and joy can be yours if you let Jesus save you as well.

The fact he stood at that desk and spoke from his heart about his story, that's his testimony. God worked through Sam and no one can take that part away. Sinning in the flesh, experiencing the carnal world in all its forms, Paul was one of the greatest sinners whom God used to bring the message of HIS greatness and to glorify Him. All of this is because of and but for God...Sam was a man who wrestled with demons, who here among us haven't been tested? I'm here to say if God hasn't tested you, then you need to look at the relationship you have with God, because He will test those that He puts to task.

Is there a video of his final moments? It would be nice to see him return to this 'form' as opposed to the degeneracy of his "comedy" days. They say Sam had straightened up his life in the weeks before he was died in this car wreck. I personally think he had repented, and asked God for forgiveness. God in His mercy, took him in this car wreck, before he would be tempted to go back to his backslidden ways. I believe he’s with the Lord now.
@tomsuiteriii97428 ай бұрын
I agree. Despite his vulgar comedy, I do believe Sam was saved, albeit deeply backslidden. He reminds me of my former roommate who, after being heavily involved in the church, fell away from the Lord for about a decade. And when I say backslid, I mean seriously backslid--he got involved in Harleys and an MC club, got divorced, became an alcoholic, was estranged from his kids, and wound up with a DUI. Anyway, over the course of our time together, praise God, I was able to help him reconnect with Jesus, and now he is sober, in church, and (re?)born again. So, no matter how far a backslidden person *seems* to be from God, He still has all things under control, even if He has to cut our life short, like Sam's car crash, to make sure we wind up in heaven with Him.
