I couldn't resist the death metal pun, after all in this video we're taking a look at painting the non metallic metal areas as well as that faintly glowing gem on his shoulder. Feel free to ask questions and log feedback :)

Your work is stunning! I need to try the NMM technique. I have shading down, I'm just missing something when it comes to the NMM technique 🤔 I've been painting for many many years, but I think having confidence in my work is my main problem...it's always been. I'll get there one day! Lol! Having an artistic mind can really play against me sometimes haha. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

I find observation to be a good teacher, think of metallic surfaces as light reflective and other materials as more light absorbent. Go for that high contrast to make objects look reflective, I know that doesn't tell you where the ought falls but I've spent time searching suits of armor and such to get the right idea. I also have a video on this channel, intro to non metallic metal that lays out a simple approach. I believe in you!

@@SamLenzArtwork I definitely have to look at more armour. I'm a very visual and hands-on learner. I think once my town opens up more and more stores start to open, I need to go to the local museum and actually see the armour in real life. Pictures (I love having physical books) online only help me so much when trying to perfect my techniques. I'm also a woodworker who loves recreating Victorian Era furniture. The only thing that helped me was visiting Victorian Era homes and seeing it in person. Thank you for your advice and showing us your skills. It is much appreciated! I'm signing up for your patreon as we speak 😂

Who else watches these with pure fascination towards the brush control? What size/type of brush did all this work?
@MrSJPowell
@MrSJPowell 3 жыл бұрын
Often it's a cheap synthetic, and described as "Larger than you think you need". Edit: It looks like later in the video he's using a Sable brush from Monument Hobbies. Not sure of the size.

Nice work! Quick question on the max highlights for NMM: In Grimdark style do you push them as high as you would for a different style? The NMM reads really well but it seems that the maximum highlight area is less bright. Or maybe its just the camera...
@SamLenzArtwork
@SamLenzArtwork 3 жыл бұрын
I'd keep them at the same level. Can't say I'm the master of grammar though, I just do what I do. One key to making NMM read correctly is the brighter areas.

Do you thin the paints with some water in addition to the wet pallet, or is it just globs of paints straight from the pot on there?
