The music fit perfect for that movie A Midnight Clear, sadly. I served in Iraq in 2003 for a year and war is screwed up, so screwed up. I can really relate to that movie. We come home and deal with the loss and suffering we saw there.

Don't bother trying to find an official single or album with this song, you won't find it. I spent 2 hours trying to find it or a soundtrack from the movie bearing the same name with negative results. I wrote to her representatives and asked where I could buy a single or album with this sing and they stated that even though they have had numerous numerous requests she has as of yet not decided to do a single or place it in an album. I told them I thought her version could be very popular and I would gladly pay for it and they agreed it had great potential but said all their attempts to convince her have as yet fallen on deaf ears for what reason they could not learn. That was about a year ago. And its 03/10/2016 now. Best bet is to get it off YT.

This is a hauntingly moving version of this carol. I have loved it since I saw the movie a good 20 years ago. I too wish Ms. Phillips would release it as a single - it is just great . . . maybe, someday.

I'm sure Sam Phillips has no control over the recording that was commissioned for the movie. And, she most likely has no easy means to re-record and put it out to the public. I agree it would be lovely. It could happen however. Until then, I think you might be incredibly satisfied to enjoy Bruce Cockburn's rendition of this public domain carol, also done in a minor key on his Christmas album. Sam Philips sings the backing vocals for this song. The entire album is worth a listen. It is my go-to holiday favorite. In the album notes, Cockburn credits Sam Philips with the stroke of genius to put the song in a minor key. You may find the clarity and beauty you are seeking for this holiday carol, along with some other surprises, if you try Bruce Cockburn. Peace.

beauty on this magnitude can not be bought or sold. I have a feeling she declined a formal release due to the nature of the song. the film was absolutely stunning, a true work of art, which this song belongs with. perhaps this recording was her gift to the film, to the spirit of Christ, and to all who believe in Him. Beautiful.
