Sam Raimi is a legend. This man directed Evil Dead, Darkman, Drag me to Hell, Spider-Man, and Multiverse of Madness. What an incredible career if you ask me.

They’re a bit mixed. 1 is a bit campy by today’s standards, but hey, the old 60s comics were like that too. 2 is the best one. It’s a bit more serious, has a more interesting villain, and the ideas are more compelling 3 is unwatchable.

@@joshhickeysmoviereviews Spiderman 3 is not unwatchable. It's definitely the black sheep of all his movies especially the SM trilogy. Plenty of movies that are worse and unwatchable than Spiderman 3.

Not Spider-Man 3. It’s really starting to become overrated. It has some huge flaws that people ignore simply because it’s fun but tbf Sony definitely played a massive role in it

Sam Raimi is one of my absolute favorite directors, so I was really excited for this ranking 15. Oz the Great and Powerful-A bit of a misfire that I can't see myself ever rewatching 14. Crimewave-A very strange experience of a film 13. For the Love of the Game-An okay at best Kevin Costner baseball movie 12. The Gift-A pretty vanilla thriller/mystery film As a point of reference, I would go positive on the rest of these movies 11. The Quick and the Dead-A solid enough western 10. Spider-Man 3-I know a lot of people really don’t like this one, but I’ve always enjoyed it 9. Darkman-An enjoyable piece of 90’s cinema 8. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness-I know a lot of people were underwhelmed by this movie, but I really enjoyed it 7. A Simple Plan-A really good paranoia thriller that I highly enjoy 6. Army of Darkness-This might be the movie that I quote the most 5. Drag Me to Hell-A great horror film with an amazing ending 4. Spider-Man 2002-If you can accept a bit of camp in a superhero film, it’s a great origin story for the character of Spider-Man 3. The Evil Dead-A movie that captures the experience that it’s going for incredibly well 2. Evil Dead 2-In my Top 25 Favorite Movies of All Time 1. Spider-Man 2-In my Top 10 Favorite Movies of All Time

The top 5 is pretty clear in whatever order you want. I didn’t actually realise the Quick and the Dead was a Raimi movie. But now I think about it, it really does fit. Such a wacky and stylish movie. The idea of a Gunfighter tournament is so cheesy the idea doesn’t sound like it’s doable in a grounded way but Raimi made it grounded and stylish with a great mix of tourney fighters. A real fun “not quite guilty” pleasure

They gave AVI ARAD a big thank you in the credits But do you know who else deserves a big thank you? LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her partner (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the original trilogy had so much depth Arad on the other hand just wanted to use the movies to sell toys

1.Spiderman 2-The train scene. Nuff said. 2.Spiderman 3.Army of Darkness 4.Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn 5.A Simple Plan-This was an amazing surprise. Powerful and surprisingly moving going into the third act. Fargo is the definitive movie like this for me but this was Shawshank Redemption-level good at its best points. 6.The Evil Dead-I'm a little too young to be scared by or impressed by this franchise but these are fun watches with personality that's missing from a lot of horror features today. 7.The Gift 8.Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness-I don't get the hate for this one. The cast is fun, the gore and action feels refreshing for the franchise and it moves at a good clip. It's not Raimi at his best but it's a welcome addition to the franchise. 9.Darkman-A welcome surprise. The cast is fun and it's a solid franchise starter. A good gothic romance riff on the superhero template. I hope Raimi makes a sequel to this one. 10.Oz the Great and Powerful-This was one of a series of modern Disney movies I watched dozens of times as a kid, so I've always had a soft spot for it. Fun cast, good pace and a lot of fun. 11.Spiderman 3-A fun watch where 2/3 of the movie works as well as the prior movies but a 1/3 of it is tiresome, overstuffed and a bit frustrating at its weakest points. Better than Dark Knight Rises but only okay. 12.The Quick and the Dead-I didn't finish this for some reason. Just couldn't get into it. When Raimi's next feature comes out, I'll give it another shot. 13.Crimewave-It's fun to see Raimi's aesthetic in its early years and it has some laughs, but you can see his weaknesses at this point in his career and it feels long despite its short runtime.

I was watching the movie but then thirty minutes into it I run for the restroom and then found myself on the floor in the back of the theater. I've only seen five if his movies. 5. For the Love of the Game(A really dull film that I remember very little of. All I remember is that I was bored out of my mind) 4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness(I don't think they did enough with the Multiverse, cameos or otherwise, and I don't think the climax felt like a climax, to the point where I was expecting something else to happen until the end. That said, it has some good development for Strange and Wanda and Raimi gives us some awesome action and visuals) 3. Spider-Man 3(The story is messy, it has too many villains, and Venom is done badly, but I think it's a satisfying conclusion with a solid arc for Peter, some cool action, and Bad Peter is hilariously absurd) 2. Spider-Man(An absolute classic with great performances, genuinely investing drama, and one of the best comic book movie villains of all time) 1. Spider-Man 2(Everything that was great in the first movie, this one does better. It has even better drama, much better action and CG, the acting is better due to the advancements of certain characters, and an even better villain, even though No Way Home later propped Gobby up to the Number One spot)

My top 5: 1: Spider man 2 2: Spider man 3: in the multiverse of madness 4: spider man 3 5: Oz the great and powerful (I do like the others, and I love the evil dead movies but the reason I didn’t add them to my top 5 is because I haven’t seen them in a long time but when I did watch them a while back I remember liking them. I’ll have to watch them again sometime. Also I know his Oz movie got mixed reviews but in my opinion I actually liked it a lot. Of course it wasn’t as good as the masterpiece classic the wizard of oz which is one of my favourite movies, but Oz the great and powerful is still good in my opinion. Plus I love Mila Kunis, she is so pretty and I love her movies)

You should watch Army if Darkness. It honestly shouldn’t be rated R. There is barely any blood, no sex, and one f bomb. Raimi said that the MPA was mad at them for making the first two Evil Dead movies unrated, so they gave Army of Darkness R to spite them.

I respect your opinion but I love those movies more, and hearing about how much you talked about Evil Dead II in your Dr. Strange 2 video made me more surprised, but I guess that just shows how much you love the 2 Spiderman movies. I understand though, as Green Goblin is probably my favorite comic-book movie villain of all time. This was a very interesting video.

2 directors did work on MoM. Scott Derrickson was the OG director, but he left very late in production over “creative differences” so they brought in Raimi to replace him. It’s like a fusion of what Derrickson wanted, Raimi wanted, and Feige wanted. That’s why it felt so messy for me

@@samuraiwarriorTV It’s not that there weren’t cameos for me. I just didn’t think the plot flowed well. There wasn’t much buildup. For me it just seemed like fight scene, fight scene, character introduction, fight scene, the end. I didn’t care that much about America Chavez because they didn’t give her enough time in the story. Again, I chock this up to too many cooks in the kitchen. 3 different people involved with the film with wildly different ideas. (Derrickson, Raimi, and Feige)

I’ve seen 8 of his movies and here’s how I’d rank them. 8. Evil Dead 2 - 52% (I know many people love this movie but it didn’t work for me. Other than Ash I didn’t like any of the characters and I felt like the comedy aspects didn’t work that well in this movie. Other than the hand, I didn’t really love most of this movie. If you ask me if you want horror from Evil Dead, watch the original and if you want comedy from Evil Dead, watch Army of Darkness. I don’t think the mix of the 2 genres works for me) 7. Drag Me To Hell - 73% (I enjoy this movie. It was just an all round good time and a good Sam Raimi movie) 6. The Evil Dead - 73% (I enjoy this movie about equally with Drag Me To Hell. I’d put this movie higher because it really kicked off Sam Raimi’s career. It’s a much more important film and I had a good time with it) 5. Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness - 86% (I had a great time but I wish we got more Raimi. When the movie goes full on Raimi I have an absolute blast but I wish we got more of that) 4. Spider-Man 3 - 87% (I know many people don’t love this movie but this to me is a satisfying conclusion to the Spider-Man trilogy. It’s not perfect but I have a blast every time I watch it. I love Bully Maguire and Sandman is an underrated villain) 3. Spider-Man - 93% (It’s a classic comic book film. I have a lot of nostalgia for this film but it holds up. Willem Dafoe is incredible and Tobey as well) 2. Army of Darkness - 95% (I watched this franchise for the first time recently and I was shocked with how much I loved this movie. This is by far my favorite Evil Dead film. It’s just so campy and goofy that I have an absolute blast from start to finish. It’s full on Raimi with the comedy and Bruce Campbell is so good) 1. Spider-Man 2 - 100% (One of my all time favorite movies)

Wow, what a Darkman story! Yeah that would definitely paralyze you as a kid, and it's a wonder that returning to that film didn't traumatize Sean too much. Great list though! Sam Raimi really is one of those directors who completely understands his style and almost always knows when and how to use it. It's rarely too much, but if it is, then the rest of the film is too. My list: 15. Crimewave (Raimi and the Coens would later perfect this madcap screwball style in their brilliant The Hudsucker Proxy, but the insane energy is massively off-centre here. At least it inspired the Coens to start directing.) 14. For Love of the Game (Luckily Raimi directs this quite well, particularly the baseball sequences because the Hallmarkian love story at its centre is so unaffecting.) 13. The Quick and the Dead (Raimi's energy feels like too much of a clash against the story here, resulting in something that would normally be fun to become exhausting.) 12. Oz, the Great & Powerful (A number of really really great choices but I'm not sure if the fake-fake CG was an intentional choice because it is very consistently distracting. The story itself is alright but stretched a bit too thin and Kunis feels like a complete miscast. Still believe that Raimi was the best choice for this kinda project.) (Giant gap here) 11. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (That same jolt of energy that Sam had for the original Spider-Man and Drag Me to Hell is here in that he shoots THE HECK out of nearly every scene to elevate a deeply clunky script. One of the best MCU films because Sam for hire is still better than most other directors.) 10. The Gift (A perfectly good hothouse thriller. Performances are good, finale is fun, and I didn't hate it.) (another gap) 9. Spider-Man 3 (Undoubtedly deeply flawed but it's also the one where Raimi was completely let loose and so the 50s greaser aesthetic he gives Spidey here is a treasure to watch, and he still just barely has enough control over all the storylines to make it work. The action here is also brilliant.) 8. Army of Darkness (A cartoonish Disney Channel fantasy-action film in the best way possible. The finale drags on far too much but pretty much everything else is bliss.) 7. The Evil Dead (Kinda clunky and a bit boring for the first bit, but an undeniably savage, inventive horror movie becomes super thrilling by its conclusion.) 6. A Simple Plan (A really good, sturdy, meat and potatoes crime thriller. Performances are fantastic, the characters are very well-defined, and it's just a great time.) 5. Darkman (Raimi's manic slapstick and low-budget effects meets the superhero genre to firecracking success. The sheer invention in every scene and commitment to the colorful camp and comic exaggeration gives way to marvelous setpieces. Admittedly, the performances feel a bit amateur, but it's a great genre film.) 4. Spider-Man (An explosive pop-opera. There's a massive difference between Darkman and Spider-Man in that the latter feels far more sophisticated. All the drama is incredibly sincere and effective, and it's one of the only superhero movies to really get me to physically cheer because of its propulsive energy.) 3. Drag Me to Hell (Nearly as savage and campy as the original Evil Dead, combined with Raimi's love for classic Universal horror films with the sophistication he got from the Spider-Man films. The characters are surprisingly endearing and it makes some commentary on bulimia and capitalist society. Almost undoubtedly my favourite ending from any of his films.) 2. Evil Dead 2 (Incredible how it manages to be a satire, recap, and remake of the first, while being a shockingly well-sustained one-man slapstick feast, while being a thrilling genre piece of its own. Bruce Campbell truly gives one of the best comic performances of all time, while just nailing the gnarliness.) 1. Spider-Man 2 (If Evil Dead 2 used Raimi's manic style for comedy-horror, then this film uses it for drama. Raimi's best characters are butts-of-the-joke and just like Evil Dead 2, it's impressive how much Raimi and Sargeant manage to string together the perfect series of unfortunate events for Peter Parker to make his downfall entirely believable, and the drama all the more palpable. The operatic sadness of Doc Ock. Raimi's entirely in service of the story here, it's the best mash of his sentimentalism, eccentric slapstick styling, and euphoria. Not perfect, but still incredible.)
