"So Serious" has tuberoses that symbolize lust, obsession, and innocence. This shows how intense ("so serious") his love for his partner was. He depicts this in the lyrics saying how hysterical he basically becomes "emotions sitting on a wire"- swinging from happy to sad. "Forgive myself" is an interesting one. It has a yellowish and purple orchid. Yellow orchids symbolize joy, happiness, and new beginnings. While purple orchids means dignity or respect. Basically sending the message of the song- he won't find someone to love or be happy until starts loving (or respecting) himself. I was going through a very difficult time in my marriage when this song came out, and I was feeling distraught, hopeless, and alone. It seemed like every time I got in the car and turned the radio on, this song was playing and tears would steam down my face. It was the perfect reminder to me that no matter what happened, my hope was in Christ alone and He would never let me down. Eventually, God restored my marriage and He continues to be my hope no matter what I have to face in this life.
