8+ years is on the low end, esp if you start as a teen when you're busy with school, sports, and not eating enough. I didn't start getting a good physique until I was in my 30s, finished with professional training and could afford to eat and train the way I needed to.

For a guy like me who didn't start lifting until 30, it's basically telling me I HAVE to do them to make up for all the time I spent being a fat moron in my 20s. Gains are already hard to make and they're only going to get harder. I could do everything perfectly and not even achieve my relatively modest goals by 40, not to mention the fact that as I advance in my career I have less time and energy every year. These types of warnings to young guys have unironically convinced me to try to get on TRT and then start blasting and cruising for the next 12-18 months. Doing my pre-consult blood test tomorrow actually lol.

@@Josh-dr9db I know what I'm doing, I've spent an unreasonable amount of time and effort to ensure that I am doing things right. I'm not saying I can't make gains, just that I'm not going to make gains like a 16 year old would. Also, your 9 month transformation is from muscle memory. Everyone knows that when you build muscle, then lose it, gaining it back is significantly easier than building it in the first place. I never had lost gains to rebuild. It's nobody else's fault I wasted my teens and 20s drinking heavily and laying around. So now that I've fixed the problems on the inside I'm stuck walking around in the consequences of my past actions. Fuck that. I'm not going to wait until I'm 40 to look how I feel. If I was 20, then yeah I'd take the long route and see how I turned out in 8-10 years but I'm not. Clinics will give TRT to anyone with levels under 600ng/dl, and I can have the test levels of two 20yr old athletes combined, except they won't crash from stress or other factors. Too many kids who got out their mothers' wombs like to claim they know everything there is in life. If you've lived in this world long enough, or actually, sharpen your mind, then you'd know nobody knows anything. Steroids were around way before 2020. It's how Zyzz became famous because he was a weeb who got jacked with steroids, and many people were inspired by "his results." Arnold Schwarzenegger is another example. I have nothing against using steroids. I think building a foundation and learning with your own potential is remarkable. A fitness influencer is like any other influencer on the Internet-they're there to entertain you. Kids have issues with anything ingenuine when they are actually consuming from scripts. People are actually boring irl. People only want to watch interesting people. When I was a kid, there were many misinformation on how to build muscle on youtube. I watched an old ATHLEAN-X video, and the boomers looked at me weird because it was a stupid exercise. I didn't really understand it. However: 1) Boomers use outdated information 2) fitness influencers/youtubers are learning, too That video I watched was outdated, but the boomers who aren't learning new information can be wrong. I can help people build muscle, but I don't know everything. And I learned that I'm not the only one. It's normal. All you can do is work with clients to get better at teaching and finding better ways of fixing issues. I'm not a personal trainer, but one should know what works for me might be different for others.

I've always felt that the openness of people using gear in recent years has been a double-edged sword in the fitness community. Yes, it has helped people avoid unrealistic expectations, and spot scumbag fake naturals who use their physiques to sell lousy products. But on the other hand, I'm seeing more people so quick to give up on their goals, or resort to using gear extremely early because their favorite KZbinr does it. There's also this whole mentality of "genetics is the only thing that really matters and mine must be shit, better hop on gear", when a lot of these people haven't even put in the time to optimize diet and programming to see what they are actually capable of. You might not be able to look like Chris Hemsworth, but nearly everyone is capable of building a solid looking physique if they really want it.

Sure, telling young people in today's society they only have to wait 7 years instead of 1 year is totally going to work 😂 Teenagers now think that in another 7 years they'll be a grandpa and will have missed all their best years. Even 30 year olds do not want to wait until they are 37-40 to get the results they think they need to have the life they think they want. The key here should be examining WHY people think having a body built by steroids will make their life better. For most of us natties who have been at it for more than 5 years, the positive things we've gotten out of it have not even been the aesthetics or strength, which very few other people care about, including women (and I think that's 99% of why guys get on). It's more about the rewards for consistency (which can be applied to any other area), managing expectations, managing anxiety, self-advocating for your own health, dealing with set-backs and injury, and an host of other things that are more psychological than physical.
@axelstone313111 ай бұрын
There is definitely a wrong way and a right way to approach steroid use. There are definitely side effects, and there is definitely a minimum effective dose for results. There is away to go about things whilst trying to minimise problems. There is use and then there is abuse. I was taking Sustanon and HCG as part of a legally prescribed TRT regimen in the UK. Started in around May 2021 and although I sought TRT for reasons besides deteriorating strength and fat gain, holy shit were the changes more than I expected. 5kg in about 2 months (some water) and my gym mojo was back, with some PRs following shortly after. Quite remarkable, and only from 125mg and 1500 IU per week. I think it’s a sign I would have responded amazingly to higher doses. Unfortunately, I had to come off in August 2022 when I moved to another country, and I took that opportunity to see if I could stay off (because injections suck and I’m quite risk averse). Well, a year later and I’m worse off than before I started TRT, and it’s been increasingly evident in the last 3-4 months. Hard to say if that’s a coincidence, but I doubt it, and it reinforces the reason I wanted it in the first place. I had zero negative side affects aside from some water retention in the early weeks. No gyno, acne or hair loss, although I’m naturally prone to none of those, fortunately.

If you'd been prescribed it I assume the goal was to keep your testosterone levels within a normal male range, which is probably why you didn't suffer side effects. A lot of people think that steroid gains can be kept after discontinuing, because of the myonuclei thing. Plenty of examples even online shows that this is not the truth, yes you retain myonuclei long term but they are useless since the enhanced hormonal backgroud is no longer there. Like fat cells that shrinks while dieting, they dont grow back if calories dont go up again. Also you need to consider the mental aspect of going off gear wich impact the motivation a lot and the time frame of hormonal recovery (which is not 100% guaranteed). Steroids user that doesn't commit to blast And cruise for life will 100% end up worse than a committed natural lifter
@Lightitupp111 ай бұрын
Its not just the muscle nuclei, you recruit muscle motor units that you would never be able to recruit naturally making you stronger than you could have ever been. More strength will equal to more growth potential. Don't think people are claiming they will retain most of it but it's also a cope to say they will lose all of it.
@Slowe_11 ай бұрын
I think Mark Bell said it best in Bigger Stronger Faster, until you hit the plateau you shouldnt even think about steroids. You can have so many gains and until you have reached your absolute peak you shouldnt mess with steroids at all.
@kanewills960411 ай бұрын
I agree! I still also think that many think they've hit a plateau before they actually have. Their lifts or physique might have remained the same for a while but there are likely stones unturned in the realms of diet, training, recovery, etc. That's just my two cents and also based on personal experience tho haha
@Nostalgiaforinfi11 ай бұрын
There is no plateau period. You can make progress continually.
@kanewills960411 ай бұрын
@@Nostalgiaforinfi I think that is ignoring a lot of what people actually experience. You may be able to continually make progress, but often I hear of people coming to a stand-still. It could be that they aren't aware of the steps they need to take to continue to progress. Or it could be that the changes become so minor that they can't perceive them. I kind of feel like each person has their own physical limits - but I also think it's often true that people think they've reached those before they actually have.
@La0bouchere11 ай бұрын
@@Nostalgiaforinfi This isn't true, there is a point where the training required to make more gains exceeds what you can recover from. For continuous progress to be possible, you'd have to be able to infinitely train harder and at the same time infinitely become better at recovering, both of which aren't possible. Now, most people won't actually hit a plateau like this since it takes so much work over so many years. Most people who think they've hit a plateau need to just scale up training a bit.

They gained 5kg on the special supplements? That means they're absolutely not working out in any meaningful sense. One of the Institute for Human Anatomy videos discussed a paper where they tested the effectiveness of the special supplements (I don't remember which ones). Even the control group - the group that did not work out at all - gained significant mass. On the other end of the scale, I'm 45, natural (too many of those side effects are already in my family without any external help), in a 1000kcal deficit, and even I am gaining about 2kg lean mass a year. So what are these brocolli boys doing in the gym? Just posing for IG pics?

The problem is young men are absolutely terrible at long term thinking. They don't think about thier 30s or beyond the immediate. Even after a year of lifting natty, you are still going to be stronger than most people. 8 years on you can be a dude in your 30s who is strong as hell and in their best health. Without any of the PED complications. But an early 20 something generally doesn't think that far ahead. Worse even is the literal children who hop on the sauce.

If you think getting big and ripped in a short amount of time is going to solve all your problems you are going to find out very quickly it’s not what you thought it would be like.
