I lived a quarter mile from them. His wife passed a few months ago. Would give her a ride down the switchback to the grocery store, lotsa folks did. Sam would be out there in the winter, freezing ass cold, and he would be without a shirt. Sometimes he was whittling and some times drinking beers with rifle on his lap.I’m in AVL now, but lived in Gerton, where this was filmed for a few years. This brought great memories of him. He’s still around. I love your videos!

What a good bloke he was.. not a greedy bone in his body, you can just tell. He's happy enough to struggle his way through life with the little old possession's he has collected over the years.. Some folks need big expensive fancy new things in life .. them folks are materialistic and are out to impress and show off .. but folks like Sam don't feel the need to make others jealous and envious of him, he knows the simplest way to be content without adopting the pretentious ways of most of the folk these days.

Have pics..we pulled up..on our way back from Chimney Rock..I got out..the misses kept her and the kids in the truck..he looked @the truck,was like hell,let me meet alluvya..so he did..evry1 got out..EVRY1 LOVED HIM.. we're a Black family from Duval..Jax,Fla..he was just sittin on the porch @1st,same as he was on the vid..he walked us around the property he had..showed us a lot..we stayed there fr like,a while..I refer to him as my Uncle..gotta go back up there..GREAT...DUDE!!

I happen to love the Confederate Flag! Yes, I'm Hispanic/ Tejano. Tejano=Texan When I see or think of the Confederate Flag, it reminds me of the Dukes of Hazard. I was born in the mid 70's, and I grew up watching the General Lee and the Dukes.
