On many of Ellington's Live Jazz LP's you could always hear The Duke shout out at the end of the performance "Sam Woodyard, Sam Woodyard!"...Enough said!...1 of the all time great percussionist!

@@PlanetDrumSchool It is strange, all the British drummers of the time wanted Ludwig, Gretch or Slingerland, yet several well known US drummers were endorsing Premier (Woodyard, Rufus Jones, Art Blakey). I guess things become more glamorous when they cross the Atlantic, either way!
