Two things: One, he was probably fine with her and the kids, it was all the crazy events and unpredictability of their lives that caused him grief. Two, it's a TV show! Take away all that craziness and there'd be no show!

I think what happened here is that Esmerelda was trying to send Sam back to the the Council, which was meeting in Salem MA, but she actually sent her back in time to colonial Salem.

@@vermiciosknid9629 The other two times, Samantha was deliberately cursed, and the only way to break the curse was with true love's kiss. Esmeralda's spell didn't curse Samantha. It simply accidentally sent her back to Salem in 1692 and had the unfortunate side effect of removing both her powers and her memory, and the way to undo that was the ritual with the coin.

I loved the long white dress with the gold trimming which she wore to Sheila Sommers' barbecue dinner in the episode where Samantha relives her first encounter with the snob, and then decides to over-dress for the occasion. Even though it turned out that that time it really WAS a casual potluck, I still loved the dress. I have one similar to it. In the first season, I didn't like hardly any of her clothes, just coming off of a dowdier era when women, or rather their styles, weren't all that attractive. Louise Tate, however, looked classier and elegant in those first season episodes, because she was supposed to be more well-off, and Samantha was just middleclassed and plainer (before she started to spruce herself up a little more). Even her hair. In the first and second seasons, it was plainer, and more of a faded blonde, yet by the third season she'd brightened it and she looked suntanned. Her dress at the first Sheila dinner was frumpy, and I never liked the dress that she wore at the "Ling Ling" dinner party. Middle to later episodes like this, the styles were prettier, and white is always a beautiful stunning look. I DO like the dress in this clip, too.

Wonderful episode. Bringing a modern pen back to 17th century Salam, as Darrin brought matches to 1620 Plymouth. Both incidents got them into trouble. What fun! I'd like to fly with the lovely witch with the golden nose. 😀

And just imagine how several women and some men and even some children were really burned at the stake or drowned for being witches and they basically did nothing. Many times preachers and politicians wanted these certain people dead because of business reasons or sexual affairs or those children were theirs out of wedlock or by rape. It was an awful time back then. People who gathered plants and herbs for medicine were also killed for making their so called witch's brew. A man could be shackled for being outside his house working shirtless in some cases. Women who tied up their skirts above their ankles while working outside could be shackled.

She wanted to drive home the point that it was their own ignorance and bigotry that had been the cause of so many problems, not witches. And she did that by proving that no true witch or warlock could ever have been caught or executed because they would simply have used their powers to get themselves out of trouble!

Darrin didn't fly too often. He flew with Sam and Endora when Endora popped them to Paris, this episode when Sam flew them home, and when Sam returned him from the witches hallowed ground after Waldo changed him back. In the case where Endora popped them to Paris, Darrin was startled. But in the episode SAMANTHA'S BAD DAY IN SALAM, it is the only time Darrin is seen in Sam's world. In each case, Darrin wasn't all that happy about flying, witches style. 🙂

Haven't watched the series really since it was on the air, but Dick Sargent really was awful as Darren. One note. Persnickety, uptight. Zero chemistry with Montgomery. It's a shame that the character of Darren was never allowed to evolve into accepting Samantha for who she was. Especially after having a daughter for a witch. Completely unbelievable that Samantha could stay married to a witchphobic prig like that.

This Darrin is so hateful and spiteful. No sense of humor, never saw or heard a natural smile or laughter with Samantha or the children or anyone. Dick York was just the opposite, also he could show convincing tenderness and loving affection for Sam and the kids. He exchanged some good moments with Endora too. Tried getting along with inlaws, which Sargeant never did.

Never was a big Bewitched fan as a kid. Was more into IDOJ. However even I must admit I understand why Elizabeth hated IDOJ so much. It ripped off any idea and story it could from Bewitched. Sidney Sheldon and his writers studied Bewitched very well. Even hired guest actors that were popular on there, in similar roles. Paul Lynne was one.

I can imagine how Dick York's Darrin would've reacted at the beginning of this scene, overreacting, possibly yelling at Sam. Dick Sargent's Darrin was calm and immediately blamed the Council for their attitude toward their marriage, an attitude that hadn't changed even after Sam confronted them back in season five's episode SAMANTHA'S POWER FAILURE. At the end of this episode, Sam pops back and tells Darrin that she''d gone before the Council again to express her disdain for their ruling. Finally, Dick York's Darrin, in SAMANTHA'S THANKSGIVING TO REMEMBER, did get upset about the use of witchcraft - they're flying home by plane, until he realized they were in 1620. He then becomes concerned about Sam's safety. That's something common in both episodes. Love them both.

I think Samantha time traveled more than Marty McFly did. LOL. Dick York was fine, plus he actually smiled and laughed. I don't think I ever saw Dick Sargent do either on this show. He was always so grim and grouchy. Dick York also seemed comfortable with Tabitha, but Sargent acted kinda uneasy around Tabitha and Adam. Dick York acted romantic and loving toward Samantha, whereas Sargent seemed tense during those scenes. I know Sargent was gay, but the roles on the show was acting, and he was an actor. He needed a chill pill. Both Esmerelda and aunt Clara had heart and meant well, but their witchcraft skills left much to be desired. LOL.

You know if I was there, I'd like to go before the council and plead my case saying that we mortals aren't so different from them and we're not all bad once you get to know us.
