Dear Samantha, you would have had your mastectomy by now. I think it was a very logical and good decision to do that. I hope that you are well on your way to recovery by now. You are so brave and very kind the way you share what you are going through . You make it a lot easier for others to bear their similar problems and you are even able to share some of your strength with them. That is very noble and generous of you. Get strong again and keep up your spirits.

Very true this is just going to be recurrence again & again. Get mastectomy done. Going through constant surgeries is so much pain. I know it’s hard to remove breasts for a women but with cancer sooner you remover better it doesn’t progress to stage 4.

Hi Samantha, regarding your surgery I think you chose wisely. I had stage 3 rectal cancer and had radiation and chemo treatment to shrink it. After that finished and it had shrunk it the Dr's were thinking of keeping an eye on things to control it like that. I insisted on surgery to remove whatever was left, best decision I made. I now have a permanent stoma but cancer free and have a wonderful life.😊

I had my cancer return in August and had my 11 hour surgery on the day before Halloween. I was not woken up until the morning of the 31st and got greeted by the head nurse dressed as a witch. I was in ICU for a day and spent a week in the hospital. The surgery was abdominal so am still getting back to eating properly but otherwise I'm doing most of the things I normally do, not quite at the level that I usually do. Hope your recovery has been as speedy as mine, none of this is easy but we do things that average people can only imagine.

❤❤❤❤ I think that you are right to have a mastectomy, I’m a nurse and am surprised that you haven’t had this option when it recurred. I am glad that you’re not watching and waiting it is often too late. I wish you a speedy recovery, my mum is 81 years old and had a single mastectomy last year, she has not had reconstructive surgery but has adapted amazingly well. You have a great attitude but always be vigilant if you notice any changes ❤❤❤❤

Hi Samantha you are always in my prayers. Im 62 and had a recurrence of my breast cancer last fall 2023. I had a single mastectomy in 2010 with diep reconstruction. I did end up with a local recurrence in the reconstructed breast 14 years later. I ended up having the entire reconstruction removed and a prophylactic mastectomy on the other breast. I did an asthetic flat closure. Im very happy with the results. The recovery was not bad at all. I hope you are finding that to be true also. Praying this surgery will rid you of this cancer and you'll never deal with it again. I know its an exhausting and frightening journey. I am so inspired by your strength. You're going to beat this! You'll be making videos to inspire others for many years to come. Much love! Have a blessed Thanksgiving!❤🦃🙏

I had surgical removal of my spinal tumor in '21, chemo, radiation to my arm/shoulder and now take Verzenio and Letrozole daily and have taken them for over 3 years. I'm doing well but super tired. Still eating and reading and doing light housework and cooking. I am not in pain at all so thankful for that. Praying for you and for our Samantha too...and your families.

I think instinctively we want to get rid of any cancer we know is in our body. It just makes sense and I would have done the same thing! It’s incredibly hard to just exist knowing you have cancer in your breast and it could be spreading. I’m so sorry you are having to make these very hard decisions but, as always, it seems you’ve thought it through and made the right choice for you. I have followed you from the beginning and I am literally unable to put into words how grateful I am for your informative videos. I am 3 years out and have a breast MRI tomorrow. Recurrence is always in the back of my mind while living is in the forefront. I try not to think of the “what ifs” but I think that’s almost impossible. I keep you in my prayers and love seeing your updates whether it’s medical or just living life with your family! Always know how much I appreciate you and that you make a difference to so many! ❤

Then I came down with uterine cancer and ovary cancer and that was stage three. I know you did not ask me but I’d like to share what I would do if I was in your after everything I have learned as a patient (stage 3, grade 2 ILC w/mets in SLN). I would get a SMX as you have it planned. I would treat this new recurrence as triple neg, I would request a complete genetic test on the new tumor, look for ERS1 mutation. I would (this is a hard one) harvest my eggs to have babies via surrogate and get a full hysterectomy. You already half way there anyways but now quite, cancer cells that are still ER+ will still respond to whatever little estrogen your body produces. The rest, needs to respond well to triple negative treatment. You are sooo young and it pains me to write this to you (I’m 51, post menopausal) but at least have a discussion with your doctor. I know it is easier said that done but at least you can get answers to though questions. Sending you prayers your way. Whatever you decide is the right decision for you 🙏🏻

Hi Samantha. You do what you feel you should do. But i can tell you as a cancer survivor, I originally had a lumpectomy and was scheduled for radiation. But my pathology came back that there was a small tumor started which changed from Stage 1 to Stage 2- thought it was contained in the ducts, but found a small tumor 3mm outside the ducts. She recommended a mastectomy but i was only 40 at the time she wanted me to be sure and seek another opinion. I went to 2 well renown hospitals and they both had different opinions. I went with my drs opinion and my gut and had the mastectomy. I wanted it gone! And it was the best decision for me. My lymph nodes were all negative and there was more cancer in the tissue. It's now been 25 years and so far I'm cancer-free. I've had a couple scares but I'm thankful I'm here another year. I hope everything goes well for you.❤

Thank you for giving your audience the insight and education needed for some of us to move forward with. ❤ I had my left breast removed two weeks after diagnosis and also waited to make the decision on reconstruction. It was almost 18 years ago so at that time I stayed one night in the hospital. I waited 8 months until I knew for sure I wanted reconstruction. I pray you have a good support person who has been thru cancer and can guide you along with your decisions. Hope you are healing well now.

This is Cher. I'm using my husband's phone, that's why his name Lester shows up. Dearest Samantha...honey, I just turned 64 on 11/19th, so I am an older woman...if that's means anything. Anyways honey, I can't tell you how much I admire you. You are so very mature beyond your years. I'm so happy that you decided on your surgery. I was 24, had tried to have babies, went to the best hospitals in Boston with the best Drs. It was discovered that I was too diseased to have babies and IVF, that long ago wasn't working, and I needed a complete hysterectomy. At 24 you can only imagine how a married woman who wanted so badly to have children desperately, had to make a decision to have a complete hysterectomy. Although, at that time, of course ,I was devastated...but my husband and I decided it was the best decision. I have a few more journeys thru the years and have lost a few other body parts, but I'm still here. I hope you realize that you are the only one who matters when it comes to deciding on your body parts. You are my hero honey, if it matters.❤ Happy thanksgiving to you and your hubby and your daughter and the rest of your family. I hope your recovery is going well.

It sounds like you’ve already been through so much and that you still have your wits about you and are making clear minded decisions is truly amazing. It sounds like you have an excellent surgeon. A lot of people in my life have had cancer, and I have found those who are more aggressive with their surgery from the get-go.m had a better chance of survival than those who held off to try different drugs to treat it first. Don’t have cancer but I have very rare disease and was just describing to someone how life with a chronic condition feels like a constant whack a mole. So happy that your surgeon is being proactive and maybe more aggressive than other MDs but agree that pros of surgery and mastectomy outweigh the potential risks of waiting. Medicine is not an exact science. Although I can imagine how tiring traveling is and that missing Halloween was hard I’m happy to hear you got to Disney with your family before you had to have surgery. Hopefully you will have recovered enough to enjoy the holidays as well since it’s such a magical time with a toddler.

Samantha. I am so impressed with your ability to compartmentalize life and the cancer fight. You are so intelligent and seem to process information, and treatment plan changes so well. I am a cancer survivor. I could hardly find normal...l was always in fight mode than waiting for the next shoe to fall. You are so far ahead of your challenges. Always remember to find time for joy. Even if it's just a few short minutes. And pray. My chemotherapy took a tool on my heart. I was placed on the heart transplant list do to side effects. It got so bad I walked around with a 24 hour vest and 2 bags of meds that went directly into my heart. I think my injection fraction was 10. I was monitored every day. But I really felt God would heal me. My team thought I was in denial and recommended a psychiatric evaluation. I have had no heart or cancer issues since. (10) years ago. Man I'm blesssed. Faith and positive thoughts helped me. Praying for you and your family. In today's talk about your situation i would have made the same choice. Be strong Sam. Good things are ahead.

Samantha you are such a wonderful human to share this journey with us. I’ve been with you (as so many others have) since your first video and have learned so much from you as I went through treatments. Your videos helped teach and prepare me for treatments and watching your strength while facing each step in your journey has given me strength. I know so many others watching would agree. You have handled all of this with toughness, grace and humour and have helped so many. Please get lots of rest and heal from this surgery and then get planning that next fun adventure with Gray and your baby! Many, many joyful and fun days are ahead of you and your family🩷

Hi Samantha, you’re a beautiful and courageous warrior and taking charge of your health and making important choices. I admire you and feel that I would be making the same decision at this point. For real, when we have a diagnosis and then years later we’re continuing to be monitored, continuing with followups and tests and waiting for results and constant watching and waiting, yes it can take a toll if we’re not in a positive mindset. YOU have a great, strong mindset and since 2019 you are now more prepared and stronger to face things head on and you’re being proactive to be more preventative. At the beginning of a diagnosis, doctors may say it’s better to do it ‘right’, not ‘right away’ (as yes, we need time to process information and understand options); with the information you have, you’re doing your best, and you are so grounded and brilliant and brave and years of managing your journey has built up so much more strength and resilience. All of this is a blessing in that you can be confident in your decision and healing from this next step will offer so much peace of mind and Christmas cheer. I hope you’re resting and feeling good. 💚

Hope you are having a fast recovery. I had a mastectomy on July, to be honest the thought was more frightening than the actual recovery. I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer but because of high recurrence risk after chemotherapy and radiation, my oncologists has me on verzenio, zoladex and femara. I am 44 and now anxious to get my first round of exams and see how it goes. You had a rough journey there, so take your time to rest, to spend time with family and now with mastectomy I think your stats of relapsing will go way down. It should at least place an ease on your mind because you already fight cancer, you don’t need that local recurrence troubling you again and again. Don’t worry about the aesthetic part you can opt for reconstruction any time. I remember myself crying over that but finally I just added an implant and take my time for the final reconstruction to match the other breast. lol woman’s vanity, but these little things makes us more connected to life. You are still so young and modern medicine progresses very quickly so I am sure we will be here exchanging news for a long time. Kisses for now.

With the posting of this video, surgery is several weeks behind you. Hope you are healing well and are looking forward to Christmas with your husband and daughter. Give your body all the rest it needs as you have already gone through so much. I live north of the Richmond area, and I know you have said you live in the VA Beach area. Wouldn't it be great if it snowed for Christmas? I know that probably is not going to happen, but there is always hope. Although, you may have had your fill of snow when living in Alaska. Samantha, I hope your Thanksgiving and Christmas are beyond wonderful!

Stage IV cancer feels like trying to empty a sinking boat with a teaspoon sometimes. I too think like you when it comes to reconstruction. Sometimes my surgical oncologist laments that radiation has shrunken/damaged my right breast and I'm playfully like Doc, Idgaf about asthetics- I just want to live. Thinking about getting a mastectomy after the fact (I had to wait at least a year after radiation.) Having issues with my estrogen levels right now (hysterectomy plus AI's) and for some reason I still have too much estrogen. I hope that this surgery allows you to live cancer free or at least halts progression for a while.
