thank you guys for all your comments! I just had to hop on and say that by the positives not outweighing the hard parts of parenthood, I meant that to me it is equal parts of the two, not that the negatives are greater! It was hard to put into words x

Samantha Maria I understood this from the beginning..(in video.) You always explain motherhood how I see and feel it. I feel like your the only mother I can relate with. My daughter is going to be 8 months soon and people use to tell me it gets easier as they get older...which in way is sort of true and mostly not! haha I feel its harder..more things to do and watch out for. Then again there are the beautiful moments when your baby becomes more aware and has actual fun with you. I also agree with you on the freedom part as well....before baby I would go out shopping by myself and do things daily. Now its hard being home most of time...its quite the adjustment!!

Hey!! I really enjoy & relate to your channel thanks for sharing your life 😁 I also felt the same in the beginning about my baby's but once they start doing more / having more independence it gets a bit better (I say that lightly because they always are dependent on us parents 😂😩) x

Samantha Maria I had a conversation with my sister about black and mixed race people having less opportunities on KZbin or in the creative industries (less so in entertainment but that has its own problems). However, I do feel that with the likes of yourself and several other influential black/ mixed race women, progress is slowly on its way. I hope that we can all rise up in our respective fields and change the perception that we are not "enough" or "useful" or "talented" because we are.

It gets easier with age, my sons almost 2 and a half and I think at 2 years was when I fhad Bally felt like all the obstacles were finally paying off, Bc at this point he can run up to me and hug me and show me he loves me, where as when he was alittle baby he was just taking all my love and leaving me empty, he fills me now but it took alittle while :)

Love how honest you are about the not-so-amazing parts of being a mum! I feel like so many people are afraid to say anything negative about raising kids because they would seem ungrateful, but that is just not real! I mean, it is freaking tough! You are trying to keep this little human being alive, trying to teach it everything it needs to know, trying to feed it the right things and it is incredibly stressful! So thanks for keeping it real haha ♥

already8use I work from home - Mum of three, my husband works full-time. Let me tell you...most days I'd rather be in an office, so I can actually concentrate. You can become do complacent. Saying that I'd never go back to a 9-5, it nearly killed me! It's insane working at home with our 1 year old, I don't get half as much done as I would in an office - but I wouldn't change that. Definitely a congrats to Sam, because I was in her shoe only months ago and I did NOT have the energy or confidence she has. Totes to her for being persistent and in love with her craft, while working!

already8use Woah, work is still work. i dont understand the american mentality that floats around on the internet that likes to essentially tell a person they shouldn't complaim because someone else works 100+ hrs a week. minimising a person voice is manipulative at best and abusive at worst. Sammi has a lot on her plate, let's not go around pretending that she doesn't.

With the bit you mentioned about how mixed race youtubers maybe don't get the recognition they deserve I totally agree that it's a problem. But I also think you (Sam) have a really strong following of young women- rather than children or very early teens like other popular youtubers. I think that's a positive thing though because I often watch Zoella etc and find myself bored of their over jokey and try hard mannerisms. With you it's real talk and real humour, and you're my fave youtuber hands down because I can relate to you. You're like a friend through my iPhone screen haha! You're doing amazing and I can't believe the great content coming our way especially while you're adjusting to being a mum! Thank you x

I'm glad you touched on the subject about how some youtubers don't get recognized. Living in the US some people always think black people are "imagining" racism. SO in love with that hair colour on you! I totally get the whole hair thing as a mixed race girl myself with naturally afro hair. I straighten my hair everyday day and although it is definitely less work - one of the other reasons I don't wear it curly is I feel afro hair wasn't really portrayed much in the media whilst I was growing up. I've watched you and others on youtube for years and so would have loved to see more people rocking natural afro hair. Not saying it's your responsibility at all just throwing it out there! xx

I say the same thing about the race thing when your trying to reach the same goals of those KZbinrs that are of a different background than you. It can be quite tricky and most don't understand where you are coming from if you try to express that. I have said this before and the looks I got was crazy! Mind you it was at a women's conference for KZbinrs and I was the only black on in the room... the silence was enough said for me! lol! I think your doing a knockout job kid, you make this mom thing look easy! :)
@SherelleMcFadgen
@SherelleMcFadgen 7 жыл бұрын
whoa no one said it was a complaint I was just agreeing with how she feels about the situation. The silence comes from many not being in the same situation as you. Sometimes silence is better than spewing anything out to make someone feel better about something or just putting two cents in. I am well aware of the success of the black people have in this industry. If anyone were to look at who I follow on KZbin it is literally a rainbow of faces. I learn and grow from watching and sharing in others experience. Its a simple observation that I have the right to agree with. Have a blessed one!

I have been on youtube for several years now and I still find it difficult to find black youtubers. The main black youtuber you will find are those doing skits. Only recently was I able to find black female hair youtubers with my hair texture and of a similar interest to me. A lot of black youtube creators do not get the same exposure from youtube (the company) or conventions that are put on to promote youtuber.

Sammi, I've just watched your vlog from yesterday. I just wanted to tell you, I am so proud of you for speaking out about the challenges you have faced becoming a mum for the first time. I myself cannot have children so will never know how it feels to be a mum. I think you did a great job in speaking about it, I completely understood what you meant by the hard times can outweigh the good times. Having a baby is an overwhelming thing that has a huge impact on your life and changes things. It's not how you expect it to be, you think it's gonna be plain sailing and like a dream but that is not the case at all! I didn't watch this video and for one second think that you didn't love indie, every time you talk about your beautiful little girl I can see the love you have for her and I think you are doing an amazing job Sam! I think you're amazing for talking about it honestly as there are alot of people out there who wouldn't be honest as they would be scared of the backlash that it could cause as yours has but that is just silly misunderstanding idiots who probably don't have children. As I said I will never experience motherhood but after having 10 neices and nephews I know how stressful it can get. Keep your beautiful chin up Sam! Don't let the negative comments stop you from talking about how you feel, if you don't wanna talk about it on KZbin then don't. Just make sure you keep talking to family and Jason, You're amazing Sammi and a great role model, fuck the negative people. Chin up beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

As a 26 year old thinking about motherhood I'd love you to do a realities of motherhood video.. you answer these questions so real and honest I'd love to see a full video on the topic I feel when your in a long term relationship the pressure I feel to have a child from outsiders can be pretty intense yet they never talk about the realities and hard parts of motherhood.. I'd love you to talk about balancing 'you' time, work time and your own identity with being a mum too.. as I think freedom is one thing I worry about ..I feel not enough people talk about it.. also the change on your relationship is a really interesting side to it too

I'm mixed raced w/ naturally long and curly hair. When I straighten my hair pple tend to treat me differently (even better). Once a previous employer even asked me to wear my hair straightened b/c it looked "more professional". 😒😒 Sam do you think a part of the reason you constantly wear weaves is related to being black/white (biracial) and wanting acceptance from the community you work in?

So agree with you about low representation in terms of mixed race people getting certain opportunities etc, you're probably the only mixed race youtuber I've watched like long term and as a half Guyanese half English girl I've always found it hard to relate to certain people as I don't always feel I fit in with either side completely and it's so so nice to have someone to relate to on these things. Wish there was more opportunities out there for you guys in this industry so that there is more representation for younger girls who don't feel they have someone to look up to and relate to. I think people underestimate how much impact it is to not see people that look like you in the media or social media platforms etc.

I think it's baffling about the mixed heritage bc as a Caribbean person & being mixed, I personally look forward to seeing u talk/rep/show u're Caribbean side. Also, the hair..I know I've asked b4, but are there's days that u let ur hair breathe in between weaves and would u do braids/twist?

I don't get why people are so obsessed with your natural hair. Their are tons of black and mixed race youtubers who wear their natural hair and have videos on it. I still don't understand how people correlate you wearing weaves not being proud of your black side and would somehow conceal it from Indie. I love your channel I have been following for a few years now you do great work and don't deserve half the backlash you get for trying out different video content or doing you unboxing videos. Some people just like being negative.

You know you just spoke my mind ! Am a black Woman and I wear wigs not because am insecure about my natural hair but because what I do with my hair is nobody's business worst part of it is this comments comes from other black peeps as well you choice to be naturalist good luck to that don't come commenting to see others natural hair like it's your right to. I get mad at this just because we are of same race doesn't mean am obligated to you . Sam do whatever you like .

Ah! Can't wait for the wedding video! Will you be sharing any footage of your wedding? Also, I'd like to say that I understand what you're saying about mixed race people being left out of the top tier of KZbin. I started following you (many years ago) because you ARE mixed race. I'm mixed as well and I got really excited to finally find someone who looked like me giving makeup advice. Keep putting out the amazing content you always do and hopefully the industry will come around. xoxo

Such a beautiful and inspiring youtuber. I can totally appreciate what you say, as I'm a parent to a little man of 2 years, and the hardships of the 'terrible twos' are far outweighed by the compassion and love that he gives every day. It makes it all worth it when I tuck him into bed at night and am rewarded by the words "Mummy I love you with all of my heart, ni night". Just melts me.

I really appreciate your down to earth nature and honesty, especially when it comes to being a mum. I love being a mummy and my daughter means the whole world to me, but sometimes I find it so tough and hard work. I actually get anxiety watching mummy KZbinrs as I always think they will say or do something that will make me feel like a bad mum. It's so nice to have someone like you, who obviously loves her little bubba more than anything, but isn't scared to comment on the difficult aspects of it. Much love and respect to you and your little one xx

Sam....I'm SO glad you touched on how feeling that being mixed race has affected how successful you COULD be on youtube if you weren't. I follow several you tubers, but at the moment, even though I'm American, the majority of them are British. (long story...hahaha) And most all of them are huge you tubers with GLEAM management; several times during their vlogs, they will take us along when they go into the GLEAM office for whatever reason. And EVERY SINGLE TIME, I'm thinking....where's the freakin' diversity at this management company?? Seriously, it's so many white people there it's blinding! Even the events GLEAM hosts for their clients are massively white. Doesn't matter if it's a party, they're away in another country, an actual youtube event, whatever; I'm always looking around the room during these events for people of color, and it's a struggle to find them! And those that are with GLEAM seem to be very cliquish, and I seriously want to thrown up at that. Not to say all of them are, but quite a few are that way. I was turned off by that in BIG way. Apparently GLEAM likes to put their paws in someone they feel will have the most mass appeal, and be the most profitable, and right now that's Anglos. But you know what Sam, the way you feel held back because of color with this whole youtube thing, is something all people of color, in all professions experience; including me. So disturbing, and I have commented a few times on those you tubers videos about this very thing, and I don't care how anybody feels about it. Racism is a LONG and DEEP evil, that has saturated the soils of many lands. But you hang in there Sam; just keep doing what your'e doing, and being your honest, authentic self. No one can argue with authenticity! I know you're not Christian, and don't really do the God thing, but I do!! And I'm here to tell you that He will take care of you and your precious little family, and bless you with everything you deserve!! WE LOVE YOU! **hugs**

rockstar nurse sooooooooo true! I remember a few WOC commented this same exact thing in Claire Marshall's video during vlogmas when she went to the Gleam holiday party. A few non WOC basically said diversity wasn't an issue because SunKIssAlba was there, but she's also mixed and I believe she was the only one there in a sea of all the other white YTers. I always wonder where is PatBright, BeautyByJJ, Shirley B, LizLivvie or any other Black KZbinrs with huge audiences. And I'm not just mentioning Gleam events, but at all the other party's they get invited too (Jo Malone has a holiday party every year and I don't ever recall seeing a WOC present). It's infuriating for sure! I know Lily Pebbles mentioned once that she thought it was unfortunate that no WOC was nominated for an award that she was nominated for (I think it was a Glamour award) and I was shocked that she even mentioned it because no one seems to care if it doesn't affect them directly. I was so glad LP said something about it, but I wonder if that will ever change.

You know, like I said, this whole racial bias in the youtube world is the same thing going on everywhere, and it needs to stop! I'm surprised that at least SamanthaMaria wasn't invited to the Jo Malone Christmas party, because they are CONSTANTLY sending her gifts!

Considering Sam was very pregnant, she could have been invited to the party but declined this past year. Not arguing your WOC statements, because I agree wholeheartedly. Just didn't want to add to any drama speculation re: clique-ish business events - I don't know for a fact she was or wasn't, but that's my educated guess regarding that.

Love this type of video Sammi and how honest you were. I'd never have considered that you being mixed race would mean you having to face the problems with KZbin that you discussed. I honestly think it's so ridiculous that in these times there is still this issue with race, when are these people going to stop being prejudice? Keep up the good work, we do appreciate how hard you're working despite having Indie ❤️

I just found your channel, and I love what you said about your early days as a mom. I experienced the same exact feelings with my first. Yoga & working out surprisingly pulled me out of that over time, but in the beginning (the first 4-6 months) it was hard and some days it did feel like there were more struggles than successes. I hope you are coming out of that mindset by now, and I'm so glad I found you on YT!

I love your hair this color! I think it really suits your complexion. Anywho, I've always found it strange when people think being mixed race is something to struggle with or hide or even think that much about. I've found that my heritage matters much, much more to other people than to me when I'm going about my normal day. I'm just me and happy with it. I love the face you made trying to answer that question -- same, girl. Same.
