As hairstylists I think we're the worst but understanding clients. She did give you what you asked but I think you visioned something else. Thank you for sharing! I'm in cosmotology school and am still learning formulas and I know shadow roots are popular but and I have been told how to do it but have never done it myself and it's a lot more simple then I thought it would be and makes such a beautiful difference!

Lol I literally redo my hair everytime I get it professionally done and I'm not even licensed!! I now go to get highlights just for the placement and then plan on doing my own shadow root and toner at home and it turns out perfect. It's irritating when you spend so much money. Don't know if it's me or the salons I go to, I'm just never fully satisfied haha. P.s. I saw exactly what you saw....too much warmth especially through the length and imo it didn't look like the inspo photos. My hair is dark like yours and pulls a lot of warmth making it such a pain! Love how it turned out after the retone!

I think each stylist/salon would consider it something different, so I would suggest reaching out and sharing what your hair currently looks like and what you want - that’s what I did!

You look stunning! I’ve been transitioning from dark to blending my grays for 2+ years. It’s been painfully slow because I want to keep my hair healthy (always use professional products, only use heat maybe once every 2 months). Last week I went to a new stylist because my favorite girl moved. She destroyed my hair to the point it wouldn’t blow out and it’s extremely orange (the toner maybe didn’t take?) my curls are ruined. I feel awful for her, she looked very young and she was welling up (as I was) and i paid/ripped and left. It’s no secret what happened to my hair was a terrible mistake, but I definitely don’t want to go back. Is it okay to put a toner on extremely damaged hair? Or do I just have to wait for the inevitable chemical cut? It’s just hair, but I’m devastated.

Toner won't do any additional damage, as long as you're using a very low developer or processing solution. But damaged hair is very porous like a sponge and can suck the toner up a lot and sometimes come out darker or more intense than you intended, so I would do it on wet hair and maybe only leave it on for 10 minutes. So sorry that happened :(

I really liked your hair before the toner. I think it was complementing your color and your face. That hair stylist did really great job on your hair, but definitely your preference would be the Best for you because you are ho would wear this hair. I lived in yours for seven years and I always been intimidating to go to hairstylist the first and last time I went there she cut my hair and my bangs with razor and she cut them over my browse without asking me so I terrified I just became quiet and let her do what she wanted until she finished I went back to home and cried a lot and tried to fix it myself and I promised myself I would never ever let anyone cut my hair.

Hi Sam. So I have super dark hair but I haven't coloured it in since November 2021 black. So my roots are now black but my hair is like red brown in the sun because of old colors. I would love to highlight my hair like yours, what advise would you give? Should it be lightened gradually? Like more than one visit to the salon and should I treat my hair with Jamaican castor oil on a regular basis to avoid damage?

Wow! So many requests, I can't even get across to a stylist to cut only a certain length. My latest disaster was, "Cut only 3 inches off please".BAM. .A FULL 8 INCHES CUT 😥 I've never had a decent hair cut. How do you even go about finding a good stylist?

Don't ever ask for a certain amount of inches. Always show where you want your hair to fall, and maybe add an extra inch or two just to be safe.

So … totally mimicking your toner formula. lol 😂 Also.. my salon uses Wella koleston perfect and color touch. However I’ve been loving the redken shades on myself sooo silly question. Does shades eq have a permanent line that will cover gray?

I'm honestly not too familiar with Redken color, aside from their Shades EQ glosses. I love Wella though and really like KP for covering grays!
