I've had the great pleasure of seeing Samara with Bill Charlap, Peter Washington, and Kenny Washington at the 92St YMCA a few years ago here in NYC. Yes, I do indeed own all of her recordings, and have seen her on KZbin many times. Along with Cecile Mcclorin Salvant, Veronica Swift, and Jazzmeia Horn we've seen this incredible resurgence of young female jazz voices in the last few years. All of them quite different, all of them incredibly talented, with Cecile IMO (and in the view of most others) as the preeminent jazz vocalist of today. Samara's rich voice and phrasing is quit reminiscent of Sarah Vaughn, but her phrasing and use of her head voice is quite different. Give all of these young ladies a long listen. By the way, she doesn't use any tuning on her recordings, and she does all of this stuff, as Cecile, Jazzmeia and Veronica, live.
