I had the honor of spending a few weeks at Samart's camp. So true what he said about basics. He was insistent on teaching basic steps, punches and kicks in a way that really reminded me of karate or TKD. It was a very different experience from other camps where trainers gave you a hard workout on pads. You can really tell Samart's passion and dedication to pass on his country's martial art...

@@SlickRick4EVER No, I think they are genuine. Professional boxing is unforgiving. Usually if you lose once, you become a nobody, and it's really hard to get back mentally as well because of the discouraging defeat. I think to be a boxing champ you need crazy amounts of confidence. You need to believe you are the best in the world or have some other way of dealing with the pressure. That's why a lot of top boxers seem weird or like cocky jerks at first glance. Humility can lead to second guessing yourself and losing of confidence, and you will crumble under the pressure. I'm Thai, and I know that this exists in Muay Thai as well. Every great Nak Muay is very confident, they just don't display it because it would be bad for their image in Thailand. Conversely, it is often good for western boxers' image to display their confidence openly. It is just a difference of culture. I don't think either are bad. I think the core values of fighters from every different combat sport are roughly the same.

Having that mad extra drive takes natural talent too. It's what seperates all time greats/champions from the usual hard work. Floyd's motto of hard work and dedication applies to all of us but that ultra-instinct in the ring and being overly competitive that's just a handfull of them. Not to mention his work ethic is not simple hard work, it's training with obsession (from mastering basics day in day ouy, conditioning, strategy) and it takes natural talent/genes too to tap that gear too. Samart is just being honest, either you have IT or you don't. Thanks for this one Lawrence Kenshin! Legend!

The true wonders are the happy combo of both work and gifts, but they are rare. When gifted or naturally more skilled its easy to fall into not having to try as hard because they can so often people talents get squandered.

​@Hello There Dieselnoi said Gambling wasn't an issue during their time because the Mafia / Gangsters in charge forbid it. They were allow to gamble but had no influence in the decisions. That was all until the assasination of Dieselnoi's boss (apparently by the army). After that, the army took control and slowly but surely gambling influence seeped in and now it has completely dominated the main stage arena's in Thailand. Farm villages still have traditional muay thai at their fights but when these prospects move to the big cities to fight in the stadiums they need to adapt and are forced to focus clinch to appease the gamblers. Terrible.

It is not as ugly & evil as you all thinks....... others than training foreigners(gym tuition fee/hostel fee/private class), betting on your own fighter & take a small percentage of fight purse is how the gym makes money in Thailand... if the gym didn’t bet on their fighter it’s impossible to make ends meet, the fight purse in Thailand is crazy little money......(btw Thai fighters can keep a large portion of their fight purse, training,food & accommodation are all provided by the gym) so it’s destroying Muay Thai in a way that all flashy Muay Boran techniques that are risky are not allowed to perform in fight !!! trainer even didn’t bother to teach it to their fighters... the gym might lose money if accidents happens 🤣🤣🤣

thats alot of wisdom there. the system of judging contact sports must change. it should no longer be arbitrarily based on judges alone but should be reviewed via replay on video to have a conclusive judgement. cause it is really unfair for a fighter to lose base on arbitrary decisions from judges who could be biased.

I’m glad that he is speaking his honest opinion. Combat sports have faced some very odd changes over the years and the benefits lay in the pockets of the promoters and endanger the physical and mental health of fighters. Having been to Thailand and trained there I kinda knew there was some corruption within the stadium community but had no idea it was this bad. When you look at how boxing and MMA is judged in the west now it’s pretty easy to see. Amazing video and a true legend of a fighter.

Sad and true. On my first visit to Thailand I went to the stadium with no expectations just ready to drink in this experience. I saw a lot of fights that were exciting as all get out but the gamblers gathered around me and started harassing me to place bets. I realized it was basucally a cockfight and was kinda turned off especially when they had a totally fake and staged exhibition match which looked like chop socky movie choreography.

ใช่คับ ผมคิดถึงมวยไทย ในสมัยก่อนมาก สมัยนะทุกคนดูมวยเพราะลุ้นอยู่ตลอด มีลูกแม่ไม้มวยไทย สมัยนี้ไม่กอด ก้อเขาอย่างเดียว หน้าเสื้อดีมีไช ไปกว่าครึ่ง เหมือนชนะไป 70-80% ละ

It's not The secret to success but somehow? Package sells. Looks do say something about how far people *are allowed* to go in life & Samart definitely was (in fact, still is) one 'em good-lookers of his era. Combined with his beautiful, yet deadly gameplay he sold the world with his craft. Everyone's got their way with this journey called life.

จิงคับ อยากให้เป็นแบบเมื่อก่อน อยากให้มีคนแบบ เฮียเหลาอยู่อีก ที่สามารถ จับกรรมการโกง นักมวยล้ม จนไม่มีใครกล้าล้ม จัดมวยต่อยข้ามรายการได้โดยที่โปรโมเตอร์ไม่กล้าขัด ถึงในมุมเรื่องอื่นๆเขาจะดูแย่ แต่ผมว่ายุคที่เขาอยู่ มวยชกสนุกมาก จัดมวยสูสีทุกคู่
