Will I Sell My MK7 Golf R?

I discuss whether or not I will now sell my MK7 Golf R given all my recent problems, and the costs associated to these, documented on the channel.

Hi all, I have a 2016 vw golf r & also a 2017 Mercedes A45 I’m very lucky to have them both. But if I had to sell 1 … it would have to be the golf r. The A45 is a Loud Fast Monster & I am Never going to sell it. It’s the old shape model which I would rather have it than the new model. All I need now is the price of petrol to go down 😂

I have a Mk7 Lapiz Blue in manual but really want to switch to auto. What do you recommend? Was thinking 7.5 but they’re so pricey still

You can't go wrong with either a MK7 or a MK7.5. Also a Manual or a DSG. It just depends on your budget and personal preference I would say. Also, what are you looking to get out of the DSG when you move is the key 👍

Slightly, as it was at a good price. Although, I love the 19" wheels like the ones in the DSG MK8 GTI's in that video. The big problem is that it is nearly 14k more than my R.....with 60hp less and no 4WD, plus I am still not 100% convinced on the MK8 (I have videos to come this week about this), but I would not rule out the car in the future. For £25k or less maybe the right time to buy one if I did want to say goodbye to the R......it wouldn't work as a 2nd car for obvious reasons 😀

@@SamAustin - yes, the biggest bugbear I am hearing about the MK8 is software issues in an otherwise brilliant car. I was not convinced on the looks of the MK8 initially but it has grown on me now. The apparent cost cutting measures on the MK8 (compared to the MK7) was disappointing.

Get an A35 AMG Sam, as you well know its a very nice piece of kit! Ive had mine for a good few months now and its just so fun, stylish, and elegant all in one. Ive actually had 2 people locally to me go and buy one after they saw mine in the flesh. Also there is a LApiz Blue Mk8 around my area with PP which was the spec I had ordered before cancelling it etc and we parked next to each other the other day! No contest, he was drooling over the AMG! You'll have to come over again for another drive. Message me.

Good vid as usual Sam! You clearly love and respect that car. Now…. put yourself in my shoes temporarily….. I’m 53 and hopefully set to retire at 60. I’m what you would call a regular blue collar guy… not loaded in any way, shape or form. A “schmuck” as they say in the Goodfellas movie. I love cars… and Golf R’s and Audi’s etc would cripple me with worry on the finances. So…. when I’m 60 should I get a Fiesta ST (the most exciting car I ever owned), or a Mazda MX5…. both cars provide that “sense of occasion” that I crave….. What say you?

Thank you for the positive feedback! I would go Fiesta ST.......community is great and the running costs are also really good. I've owned two myself and have shared plenty on the MK8.5 facelift also. Pound for pound it is the best hot hatch and a car I can only recommend. I wouldn't wait until your 60 though.......see if you can squeeze yourself into one over the next 6-18 months as prices for a 2013 MK7.5 ST will likely be around the £5,000 mark and, as long as you get a good one, it will likely not depreciate any further from there. I only say this because of the 2030 ICE ban and the fact that in all those years to wait there will be plenty more motorists on the road making it hard to enjoy such a special car 👍

They will for sure help bring prices down. Similar to what happened when the MK7.5 came out....MK7's became a bargain as dealers wanted to shift old stock and owners wanted the newer model. Could be a good opportunity to sneak in 🤔

I think you've made some valid points. Unless you need the money and are therfore downgrading to something cheaper, I'd stick with the mk7R. Anything else would cost exponentially more and wouldn't be that much quicker if at all. It's the king of the 300ps hot hatch club. Anything else in that group would just be a downgrade.

Should’ve sold it when the market was hot , i don’t see the point of having two hot hatches sell the R and enjoy the fiesta if you still have it

The ST200 went in late August so I no longer have two. The car market does not make a difference if you are looking to replace the car as other cars will fluctuate in the exact same way.....like houses.

Who in the right mind would sell an MK7/7.5R to get an 8R? The only thing that speaks for the MK8 R is that rear diff but let's be honest : how often are you going to use that to its fullest potential, especially on the public road? Everything else on the MK8 R is just a downgrade, especially that hideous interior. People who have their MK8 (R or whatever MK8) for a while now are still complaining about the car's interior. It really isn't a case of getting used to it, it's a case of just being shit all together.

The mk8 is quicker, looks are subjective some people prefer it, some say the MK7 Is boring and I wouldn’t blame him for wanting a change after 5 years I’ve never owned a car that long it’s nice to have a change besides I’m not a fan of high mileage cars.

@@steveo8533 That the Mk8 is quicker is hardly an argument since there still aren't a lot of people that can custom map it and you have to put in next to no money to have an MK7 running at 400hp already. Incase you were talking about cornering capabilities though : The Mk8 R has nothing over the Mk7 R, on public roads at least where 90% of the R are driven. I'll give you the looks argument since it's exactly like you've said : it's subjective. Although i feel like that the Mk8 is almost objectively bad looking. The R helps a bit though gotta say. Still not liking it though, certainly not in comparison against the 7R. High milage isn't a problem, if you maintain your car.

if you love the manual as much as everyone else does then what about F87 M2 COMP can get it in manual and the manuals are holding very strong money wise also the M2 is one of the best drivers cars there is just go to the Nurburgring ring and all you see is M2 and the GR Yaris (another manual) germans do love proper drivers cars if I was looking at todays market GR Yaris or M2 Comp is where its at for a manual car anyways

I have driven an M2 Comp on track in a manual and I did not gel with the car. The latest M2 is eye popping in terms of its price and weight figures! It wont be a car for me I am afraid but I wouldn't say no to a 2016/2017 generation M2 if the right one came up 👍
