Thank you so much for continuing to teach the *whole* of judo. Our club is moving toward AAU rules for tournaments, and away from IJF foolishness. Keep up the good work sir!

Awesome technique, is this considered the same technique as the Zantaria style uchi mata ? I see the grips are different.
@welcomematstevescott9 жыл бұрын
+dvaldiezel Thank you for the kind words. There are so many individual applications and variations of Uchi Mata (or any other move for that matter), it's hard to answer your question as to whether this application is considered the same. The best way to answer your question is to simply offer the advice Maurice Allan gave me years ago; "Make your technique work for you."

I usually can get a Georgian grip easily, but I'm never able to complete throws from there because they post their legs back. The first throw's explanation made a lot of sense, using the leg lace to keep them from posting, but what do you do to stop them from doing the same on osoto, or is this just off the grip/before they adjust? I've been taught the same throw a few times by instructors, but never able to make it work, despite having a pretty good osoto in general.
@welcomematstevescott7 жыл бұрын
O Soto Gari off on a Georgian grip is a good move and one that is done fairly often. I would say that your best bet is to establish your Georgian grip and get your opponent to move in a circular fashion into the direction you want to throw him. This may help in setting up an O Soto Gari. Just a thought. Not sure if this answers your question but, like I said, O Soto Gari from a Georgian grip is a good move.

EXCELLENT STEVE is there a no gi version?
@welcomematstevescott8 жыл бұрын
In a no gi situation, this throw can best come out of a clinch situation where the attacker has a double underhook or similar tie-up. It works best from a slow tempo when the action slows down a bit and allows the attacker the opportunity to hook in with his leg as well. This can also be done with a good tie-up around the defender's gut or hip area. Originally, this throw came from Georgian wrestling where they use a belt-like jacket to grab. It's best known for its use in sambo as well as judo. The no gi version is a bit tougher to pull off than this version using the jacket and belt.
@stan23764 жыл бұрын
would this move work with different grips? like double belt grip under uke's arms? (mongolian grip)
@welcomematstevescott4 жыл бұрын
That's right and I recommend that you experiment with the different grips in practice.

8:20 I wouldn’t use that to “park” someone. Looks like great setup for ura nage. Always worked for me. Just need to lift the trapped leg as high as you can and send him flying.
@welcomematstevescott6 жыл бұрын
Good way to express it! thanks for the comment.
@roninstrength18835 жыл бұрын
It would seem that (blue) lacing the leg would make a (red) counter of ura nage impossible because (blue) is displacing so much pressure under the (red) opponents’ hip, they (red) would just fall flat if they tried to lift (blue). There is contralateral pressure being placed throughout the kinetic chain, neutralizing leverage throughout the lift, essentially neutralizing all leverage advantage. Am I making sense or is this just jibber jabber?
@roninstrength18835 жыл бұрын
Red would have to beat the hip battle before the leg gets laced in order to win with an ura nage. No?
@rebelape42573 жыл бұрын
Are these bjj legal, the leg lace might not be but I don't think number 1 is illegal

What is the name of first throw in Judo (Inner thight without leg entanglemen? Second, is Kawazu Gake name of the second throw or it means just leg entanglemen? Thank you.
@radianojagger3489 жыл бұрын
+welcomematstevescott I was asking because to me it looks similar to Hikikomi Gaeshi. I found on some other video that you refer to it as Kharbarelli(Shota Kabareli).
@timo2357117 жыл бұрын
It is hikikomi or hikkomi gaeshi in Judo due to the belt grip. In Sumi Gaeshi the grip is on the collar, not the belt.
@brottarnacke7 жыл бұрын
I looked up "kawazu" on google translate. The translation given was: "I will not buy it". Japanese is a complicated language.
@cassiooctaviani4733 жыл бұрын
Radiano Jagger, the first throw is called Obitori-gaeshi in Judo. It is not hikkomi-gaeshi, because in that technique you have to roll back (like in sumi-gaeshi or tomoe-nage).
@cassiooctaviani4733 жыл бұрын
@@brottarnacke Kawazu from kawazu-gake means either frog (an old variant of "kaeru"), or the name of an ancient Sumo champion. It is unclear which one is the name of the technique kawazu-gake actually derived from.

Cool technique but based on what do you make the amazing statement that if you did this outside, "you'll knock him out at the very least"?
@welcomematstevescott5 жыл бұрын
This throw produces a hard landing for the person being thrown, especially if there is no mat (or crash pads) to fall on and if the person being thrown does not know Ukemi.

What do you grab if doing a georgian grip on the street? I heard you mention the street.

Pretty much anything you can, usually his belt. If there is nothing to grab, go with another grip or move.

I love georgian grip but heard once you shouldn´t have the grip side arm with the same side leg.
@welcomematstevescott5 жыл бұрын
That is most likely in the IJF rules Nico, but in every other grappling sport, it's permitted.
@nicocontreras53665 жыл бұрын
@@welcomematstevescott i wasn´t talking about rules though, sorry if I expressed myself wrong, I tried to say that is ok if the grip hand is in the same side as the leg that is forward. For example, I get to the grip with my right hand and my right leg is the one forward, is that ok ? I have heard that would leave me open for some attacks.
@welcomematstevescott5 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean Nico. Leading with the same side when initially engaging an opponent is risky and very well could get you thrown. But when engaged and actively gripping an opponent you have some measure of control with your hands, arms, etc. as well as body movement and posture, so the Georgian grip is often a strong grip to use.

This is illegal in jiu jitsu, right?
@welcomematstevescott7 жыл бұрын
There are so many different sets of rules for sport Jujitsu, my advice would be to ask a referee or other person who is knowledgeable on the contest rules of your specific sport.

welcomematstevescott Thanks, it looks like a "slam" but I don't know; I'm brand new to BJJ.
@befelmi9997 жыл бұрын
it really depends on the ref. most i've seen allow judo throws, but only if you do them well. some refs will penalise or disqualify you if you do it sloppy. however, for ibjjf white belts this is illegal/shouldn't happen because single leg takedowns with the head outside are forbidden. if you pull you opponent into the georgian grip his head is outside and the ref might penalise the thrower for intentionally putting the opponent into an illegal position
@BJJCache7 жыл бұрын
Right now in BJJ I do believe it's illegal to grab the belt over the back when the person has their head on the outside.
