Interesting events that happend when we took the ENV200 for a weekend drive to see how the can performes when the battery level hits 0%. How far can you travel? will we get any warning? Will the performance change? find out in the video!

Great to see someone testing this out. I have the E-NV200 and have gradually learnt how many miles I can squeeze out of it but never been brave enough to hit turtle mode! Good to know though what happens when it does finally die, did the power steering still work? PS I always leave driving mode in B. It doesn't affect how the van accelerates or anything and uses the maximum amount of regen braking so is beneficial all the time.

I have a 2013 ford transit connect van diesel, micro camper van. I spent 8 months and £1000 on self built conversion. I live in London but I need to change my vehicle because of the ultra low emission fuel in 2021. I would like to buy a second hand Env 200 nissan and make it in to a micro camper van. I am a member of the camping and caravaning club for 9 years. I have also travelled to France, and IOW with my micro camper van

I am also looking to convert the van, but still have the option for using it for cargo. You might find this video I did interesting. I talk though a few design layout options that I am considering for my env200. I will use a similar folding bed system as in my Sprinter Camper Van video. kzbin.info?o=U&video_id=gJoFY6GZUwY

It seems painful to just watch someone bring it to zero for the sake of it. It stresses the lithium ion cells, and the car can potentially hault or safe-lock itself in place if turned off with zero percent charge. ... I'd just avoid that. btw, if you're doing rapid charges, the driver can actually access the HVAC battery cooling in this van in the computer/trip settings - but the van must be on whist on charge for that to work. Drive is fine, you can "Coast" as if you were in neutral if you apply 1-5% throttle. B is convenient for the long descending grades. anyways, I liked the video and this ev adventure. I'd happily subscribe to see more of these but this one was really gut wrenching to watch!
@SamButement
@SamButement 5 жыл бұрын
I understand. The safe lock was a major thing and something to watch out for. It could cause a real problem if you are unable to put the van in neutral and push it out of the way. I hope that there is some manual over ride for this. I wanted to run this experiment to see what would happen should I be forced into a situation, and need to make a decision weather to risk driving a little further or abandon the van for help. At least I feel more confident that when the van hits 0% on the dash its not just going to cut out. Drive mode is great. And its good to know that when the throttle is at 0-5% it’s the same as coasting. I just wish there was a notch for the foot peddle so you could rest at 0 throttle more easily and keep your eyes on the road. The more powerful B mode is great for down hill when necessary. I find the ENV200 so much more fun to drive than ICE car. The low noise is really nice. . .

@@SamButement Well, it sounds like a worthy vehicle to ye, man. Since the 2011 Leaf, and even some electric before it, everyone tried that same experiment and got the same results. It's funny in a way, that curiosity among owners won't stop for potentially decades to come. Again, back in 2012 or whatever, every trip to the charging station or destination were always filled with a sense of flirting with death. And every so often they'll show up to someone's house looking for an extension lead and a tea break for an hour or two. Loads of youtubers like Ian Samson have been vlogging that stuff for years and still are! Can't wait to see what's to come. Travelling in electric cara-/van like the 40kWh env200 was a little something that always fluttered in my mind.

Batteries should not be depleted under 20% charge. I think manufacturers take this to account. So probably there was 10-20% charge left after the dash-meter hit 0%. After it didn't move there might have been still like 5-10% charge left to keep the battery alive. Still seems silly that comfort options like heated steering wheel and seats work after 0% on dash-meter. I would have designed the car to go full on power-save mode to keep it running little bit longer. distance > comfort. Then again, if you have to stop for the night it would be better to have comfort.. So it's user's choice do what you want and that's fine. But interesting test anyway, good to know it just doesn't stop after 0% on dash-meter.
@SamButement

@@Juke172 I always thought what would happen in an emergency and you really need to push the van until it stops. I wanted to see how it would perform as the battery depletes. Although not the most scientific test i am still pleased with the results, and i think its good to know if you do hit 0% that its not just going to cut out on you. It would be good to use that last 20% battery if only it did not damage the battery. Perhaps the heated seats are run off the lead acid battery in the front with the lights?
@Juke172
@Juke172 5 жыл бұрын
Sam Butement oh yeah if there is that regular car battery, it might use that for more common things to work and just use the bigger battery for the engine only. Not sure how it works. I’ve imagined EV’s only have that big battery/batteries spaced tightly at bottom of the main body.

Good to know. I wanted to run a test to see how much more power the battery had before the van stopped moving. I could have made the test much more scientific by only using 2 bars of power and keeping at 30mph. In the end, in order to drain the battery faster we started accelerating and braking to use up the energy faster. Unfortunately we did not have time for this test, but instead focused on what warnings do you get as the battery runs out. I hope it was helpful to some ENV200 owners, and perhaps gives them a bit more confidence knowing they have that little bit more range in an emergency. Have you got the icon of a turtle on the dash when you first start the van?

How interesting, glad you made it to the charger. With LeafSpy can you see the voltage in the battery? @Steve AtTheVan
@SamButement
@SamButement 5 жыл бұрын
@Steve AtTheVan . Good to Know. Wish I had that during the test and wish the dash would show more information. I am currently on the look out to buy an ENV200 and considering the pros and cons of the 24kwh v 40kwh battery. There are lots of 24kwh vans about and the price is good but, probably like everyone I noticed the range is almost half, and the new 40kwh is expensive. Although most of the time it will not be a problem its always nice to have as much range as possible. I am so keen to get an electric vehicle but I was always on the lookout for a van. When I saw the ENV200 I thought it’s a perfect size for a mini camper and you can justify driving it everyday. I would be interested in putting a 300w solar panel on the roof and calculate, in direct sun it would add about 8 miles range over a day in the sun.

@ianmathieson65

You can only do that with the 12 volt under-bonnet battery, not the Li-ion traction battery. There’s no means of connecting this to anything other than a mains voltage charge point via the built-in type 2 connector or a rapid charge unit via the ChaDeMo connector. Only then will the built-in battery management electronics and it’s software be able to control the charging of the battery to prevent damage or fire.

Just imagine when these run out of power causing traffic jams. My personal opinion is that a lot more thought and development must go into electric vehicles before they become main stream transport and where is all this extra electricity coming from to charge all these electric vehicles. Too soon and not enough infrastructure in place to support.
@nunodionisio117
@nunodionisio117 5 жыл бұрын
Why would anyone get to that unless you want to test it like these guys? You refuel an ICE when you need it and recharge the EV when you need it. It's the same. You just charge during the night when electric production goes to waste anyway. No one questions energy availability when it's about housing, we just presume the government will find a way to provide. The infrastructure to charge? There is electricity everywhere already, you just need a plug. Check out how simple it can be: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHzEdpt4n9lkotU
