Cutting Out Window & Door Openings with House Wrap & Siding // DIY Workshop Build

The house wrap and T111 is perfectly fine for the shop. If anyone watches Ken's Carpentry, they build a dozen or more garages and shops a year and that is exactly what they have been doing in the northeast for a couple of decades. Good idea to work from the inside; work smart, not hard! With the windows cut out, you can sure see how great the light is in the shop. And Tuck Tape will fix that house wrap, or even Blue Skin, peel and stick. And good idea leaving the windows until the roof is on. Nothing like dropping a truss end during a lift and losing a window!

What about painting the outside now, instead of doing it later? You could use a spray gun and not have to worry about masking or any over spray. Just a thought! Looks great Sam!

I was trying to wait for your next Green Acre video to come out, but I saw this on the side so I couldn't resist checking out the progress. I just want to say that the way you did your window openings was perfect. Flushing cutting is superior to the other methods and is more favored these days with window manufacturer's. Really, no one should be doing the X-cut anymore. That method is outdated and not ideal since it can send water down into your window header. The I-cut is okay, but it allows air and water to bypass the window insulation if it gets behind the wrap. So, no worries on your method. Everything looks good from here! Keep up the excellent content.

So far every video posted on the channel for this workshop build has flopped so I've lost my interest sharing this project over there. I'll still show the completion, just in a very high level fashion. I've been very happy & encouraged with how Samcraft viewers have received the build videos though. :)

Some people can post as little as they want, and as much low quality content as they want and will always get big views, and some of us have to work a lot harder for it. It can definitely be discouraging. Maybe call it a "shed" build instead of a workshop.

For cutting those window openings drill 4 holes and then use a router to run round the framing. Nice clean edges...

That worked out pretty cool. I’ve seen guys use routers or rotozips to do that. I want to try all three next time. In the past I’ve usually measured and cut before hanging the sheet but this seems to be faster and more exact.

Looks kwel but I might have put foam board up instead of wrap. Taped all seams and some zip taped around the doors and windows then put the exterior siding . Love your process, the foundation is bulletproof !

yeah i mightve used a router with flushbit myself , mostly because it doesnt chew up the surrounding wood as mush shop looks good , kinda wondering wat youre going to use for inside sheeting , osb would be stronger against stuff hitting it compared to using plasterboard , though plasterboard helps keep the moisture level a little more even and might insulate sound and heat/cold a little better though if you stack lumber against it it probably falls straight through an migt even push out the siding in its fall

I do not understand why you would put house wrap under your wall sheathing. I also don’t understand why waterproofing window openings is different (less important?) on a workshop than a normal house. Is wood frame rotting in your shop less important than wood frame rotting in a house?
