On your trim boards, my neighbor was a 40 years carpenter building houses. He told me he liked the trim boards on the exterior as you did yours and your first diagram for interior. And when he said he liked it one way or another he really meant do it my way or dont do it at all.

Don’t forget drip cap if the overhang isn’t close like that or on gable ends. Also could run the bottom sil trim board thru a table saw set w a bevel for a diy drip edge

@brucelee3388 Жыл бұрын
The 'Old Fashioned' way to fit the top trim on the window is to have the top board overhang a few inches on both sides of the verticals, maybe cut a small (1-2 inch) diagonal on the bottom corners or use a jigsaw to cut the ends in an 'S' if you want to be extra fancy. Water does not like to flow uphill (although wind can blow it into all sorts of interesting places) so a tiny notch (like a knife cut) in the underside of the overhang will make the water drip from there rather than try to run along the bottom edge and find its way inside.

As awlasy, everything looks great. If someone wanted to not have the 'sloped' trim, they could always just a table saw, and slightly notch one side to whatever thickness they need to account for the window flanges. And it looks like you need some more trim for your other building, looks kinda weird to have that one with nice trim, and the other with exposed window flanges, lol. (That's what it looks like at the start of the 'fly-by' ending scene anyway). We've used those style windows before, and they are definitely easier to work with than others I've seen installed on new construction.

Nice window install, plenty of light. Noticed screens are not full anymore only half. Will you do a mini split for the workshop? Recall how hot it gets there, or will ceiling fans & exhaust fans do the job?
@christopherleblanc14616 ай бұрын
Thank you for your video! Wondering how crucial it is to have trim flush with the flange? I attached my window using torx screws but didn’t want to strip out the pre drilled holes so some of the screw heads are sticking out a tad. Would it be ok to just shim the back of the trim to make it flush with the front of the window?
@justinnewton7168 Жыл бұрын
I know its just a work shop but im kind of surprised you didn't throw flashing tape along the outside of the nailing flange. Otherwise, looks good man.

How are you insulating the floor?
@denisewilson8367 Жыл бұрын
Other than the roof sheathing you are done outside, right? So, unless the metal roofing shows up, are you doing interior wiring or insulation? You are going to have a really nice workshop when you're done.

Great job, Sam! If you was my neighbor I would probably hire you as a A+ carpenter. Thanks for sharing!!
@judyherman1249 Жыл бұрын
This is not meant in a negative way, but when you first mentioned attaching your windows, you talked about nailing them. I thought, that's different, because I've always seen people screwing them on. However, when you actually went to attach them, you did screw them on. So my point is for making a tutorial on insulation of windows, you may want to clarify using screws from the beginning. Just thought I would mention it hopefully to help others in any other confusion type issues.

looking good Sam, but I hope mo one does the wrap the way you're showing. Where you cut, instead of using the flexibility and stretching ability of the seal tape is just a pnother place for water and moisture to get in and cause yourself huge problems.
