Here's a funny story about finish nailers. I just finished watching Doug (DIYferrent) make small beds for his kids. I commented that I wouldn't feel very confident using brad nails to hold it together. They responded (they meaning Ashley) Those are finish nails not brad nails. I commented back: Oh no problem then, I hear they make great nails in Finland...Crickets.

Sam, the shop is looking really good. It's great that you are showing and talking about the lessons you have learned along the way. One suggestion I would have for you would be concerning the electrical. By code, all romex wiring must be covered and/or embedded in the walls. Electrical wiring being exposed can be a hazard in many ways, the least of which is the risk of damage from items hitting the wires and damaging the jackets, the most common is the exposure to rodents chewing on the jackets and causing a short. You should seriously consider rerouting the romex for your circuits into the wall. This would give you several advantages, among them being reclaiming the wall space where the wires are located, being able to recess the electrical service panels into the wall giving you a much cleaner appearance, and accomplishing the goal of protecting those wires and having a great looking shop. Don't take shortcuts now. This point in the process is when it really counts. Six months or a year from now, you won't worry about the time spent to do it, and will be so much happier. Take this from someone who didn't heed this advice and regretted it. The bonus is that the building will pass code and be a solid asset to your property, and not a liability. Love the advice about starting and ending in a corner, and setting boxes with a laser. Fantastic lessons!

Sam, I completely understand what you are talking about when you talk about getting stressed out about the next thing you are going to do. I have been building for 50 years and I tell people I have already built this house four times in my head. I see the problems before they arrive, fix them in my head, and move on. Then the next day when I get on the job site I just work doing what I have played out in my head several times the night before. Something tells me that is what you do. Those wire connecters are great aren't they. I wish they were around back in the day. You can put pigtails on your outlets while you are relaxing watching TV and go in the next day and just plug the wires into the connecters and run the screws in on the plug. You are done in about one minute per receptacle.

Me too! I put over 1,000 nails in the shop paneling with ZERO jams or issues. That's pretty awesome from this tool considering it's reputation of being "low end". :)

another populair saying : "i fix that later" , car body filler works good in fixing those gaps too though it might crack if the material works a lot depending on how wide the backing is at that point : you could make the gap wider and cut on both sides so its straight up and down and fit a strip of the paneling in there , makes for a way tighter gap or shiplap all the seams with a strip of the same wood theres a way to do the angle cut a bit nicer , it involves using an extra panel , you lay the panel over the last panel so it covers it exact , then lay the panel you need to cut at the angle behind the panel you just put over the last panel and use its edge to draw the cutline , if you need to make a parralellogram you first slide the panel against the cormer and lay sumting over it that covers the gap to draw the angled line , cut that line set it up against the corner so its fits tightly and then do the first thing , should fit pretty tight might allso help to line up youre panels using the laser so you can fumble with each one a bit and keep mounting them straight and only have tiny gaps along the wall

1:00 why not use thicker ply so that you can drill into it and not risk the waviness that you mention a few minutes on the first corner piece install.

The older Craftsman tools are okay, the problem is the batteries, especially compared to Milwaukee. You get what you pay for. That stuff is basically luon just thicker. I'm using it to line the inside of a closet.

How the hell are you free hand cutting out sections around windows, butt joints with a circular saw so near on perfect? At one point you were learning over about 2 feet and cutting across your body. I struggle to cut that neat with fixed straight edges. Obviously, there was your boo-boo at the end, but you explained that. Great job.

Awesome work so far! For the ceiling, I recommend getting a drywall lift. They are cheap from Harbor F. I bought mine used for half the price. It made lifting plywood sheets so easy. Good luck with the next stage of your project.

Prior to putting up the plywood, you should have taken some plastic, tacked it up around the windows, then put up the plywood, you would then been ready to paint, then when done painting, cut the plastic away leaving some in the wall, but I'm guessing will be finishing the around the inside of the windows...

Sam, it's looking great. Another tip would be, forget the seams and just put a thin strip over them to make them go away. For me, I prefer to paint the walls fist, then used a burnt wood look on the covering pieces. Makes for a great contrast.

We love watching your videos. We have a question regarding cutting out for the electrical outlets. How come you didn't use the Blind Mark to mark your outlet spaces for the cutouts? You really seem to love it when doing the remodel on the 1988 Palm Harbor single wide mobile home. 😊 We just bought one for our son for his birthday and anxious to hear if you have found a problem with them? I put this very same paneling on my shop i built in 2021 because lumber was still crazy expensive. worked out great for me. I preferred the reddish side because the other side looked like bamboo plywood. Good job on this building. It's making me want to build another one.

When installing electrical outlets, I try to plan them so they don't fall on the edge of a sheet. Saves me from trying to cut out for the box with just 3/8" of sheetrock/paneling holding on at the edge. Using the laser level to sit the height is a great idea. Thanks

The paneling reminds me of the stuff people put in vans back in the day only a bit nicer. Don’t put shag carpet on the ceiling. It might be a sponge for sawdust. I hope that 1/4” sheeting stuff works out, it’s a shop……heavy machines, power tools etc. Did you buy a couple extra sheets?

How are the electrical box protrusions looking? The molded in offsets assume 1/2" drywall. I like the idea of the thin paneling, but worry outlet/switch covers will float off the surface.

It will be a totally usable connector between the two. :) About 6' wide and at least 7' tall. Enough to pass tools, etc. easily through the spaces.

Since it is a workshop and you work with lasers I was wondering why you opted not to do sheet rock--my dad was a firefighter and remember the absolute pain it was when we (entire family) helped him sheet rock the garage (aka workshop). Is 1/4" plywood thick enough? I know it's very expensive these days, but wouldn't thicker plywood be better as you could hang fixtures directly into the plywood? I remember Norm doing this on a garage workshop build on New Yankee workshop.
