Great video sam, this is a video I too would wish to watch if I wanted to get into the social media artist game. I would also say that being a social media artist fulltime means you're going to have to deal with the community. Without the right mentality, you can fall into mental, emotional and mental health traps. Especially when you're personally dealing with these individuals while navigating business vs a personal space. Another thing is to also be ready for scrutiny the more traction you get.

@@R3in_Ch Yeap totally agree. The algorithm is hard to crack. Though I find Instagram reels interesting. It may be a very good tool to grow, but it needs consistent work. At the same time, I also wanna put it out there the below points to support other artists! 1. if we love art, we should have fun doing it (regardless of likes) 2. likes and recognition should come as a bonus (if our contents are good - like Sam's :D) 3. Social media is rapidly changing, especially now when trends come and goes just like that . So I feel we gotta learn to adapt to not be left behind 4. don't give up too early, disappointment is because we have our expectations set too high. Set achievable expectations 5. learn from Sam's videos :D 6. you guys are awesome!!!

Honestly I struggled with the same thing. In fact, I’m only just barely getting out of that. For now, draw whatever you want. If one day you wanna draw realistic, do that. If you wanna draw anime, do that. Ik he said not too, but you don’t have to YET- post whatever you want on a alt account. The more you draw what you want the more you’ll find out abt your art. Once you feel like you’re ready to actually start building an audience, create an actual account and start posting there. I was able to get 78k on tiktok easily even with my changing art style every other piece. So yeah, he’s right about wanting to have a style so you can have the right audience, but if you still don’t know your style work on that, not growing your social media…I’d that makes any sense?

@@redtoir I also believe that's the best way and I should get out of my comfort zone of spending 70 hours on a trash artwork (internal screaming).. all I need now is motivation and patience and to practice 40 hours a day (internal screaming pt.2).. and with college things don't get easy (internal screaming pt.3). I understand. I’m just barely finding mine (like literally started liking it and growing it last month) just draw whatever you feel like. Don’t force yourself to draw something you dont want to- if you don’t post social media, you have the freedom of being able to draw whatever. I started finding mine by just drawing whatever I felt like. one day I wanted to paint, one day I wanted realism, one day I wanted to attempt another artists style. Experiment and do what you want! It’s the way that worked best for me. And once you think you’ve found something you like and won’t get bored of, you can start posting

To add or support Sams claim, i love taking advantage of instagram and spreading my art globally! I still have yet and hardly consider myself a pro but I really want people to love my art to the point were they can hang them on the wall for decoration. Being your own boss is amazing, I recently have a commissioned art and the pace that im in is running like oil. I'm not streesed about deadlines, being told what to do, what to paint and not what to paint and most of all, this person wants my art. How amazing is that! I hope Sam and those who are artists on social media or anyone who read this is inspired to continue what they love and not give up!

Hi Sam! I've been watching your videos in the past 3 weeks or so and I've been inspired by your content and message. I am a game streamer on Facebook but I've always drawn traditionally since I was 4. I'm relatively new on digital art (4 months or so ON/OFF cumulative practice time) and I paint and upload on Instagram once every year LOL. Watching your videos made me want to live that life too! Your words are so precious import to so many art babies and gives us so much hopes, which were always crushed by outsiders thinking that choosing the artist way is too insecure. Internet is such a wonderful wonderful existence! BTW keep up the work, your art is amazing. When I was younger I always dreamed of becoming an artist. It used to my hobby since kindergarten. Because of school I stopped drawing. Because of my unsupportive family and myself being forced to be a perfectionist, I thought one day I should stop drawing since my skills are just trash since I have no talent because of my lacking imagination skill. So I started thinking about alternative jobs, which I would like. A job as a Graphicsdessigner or even working in an Office would be fine for me. Unfortunately, those Jobs are so popular, that nobody wanted to hire me as a trainee - they kept sending me rejections, which was quite depressing for me until my depression got much worser... I hate society for wanting to change someone's dream and hope and crushing them. At the same time I also wished, someone would have tell me the truth...instead of wasting my years by telling small lies that if I keep writing better applications and refreshing my office/photoshop skills, then I would get the chance. Unfortunately, luck plays a really big role... So last year, I finally finished training as a nursery nurse. I do love working part-time in the kindergarten but I also really like to draw and to sew occasionally. This year, I finally bought a graphic tablet. In my free times I would like to upload some arts in social medias, when my skills are getting better. Maybe I would do this only as a hobby with donations options. (Sorry, if someone has trouble understanding me. English is my fourth language, though I ditched French in order to focus on getting better in English)

I tried posting everyday for the last 3 weeks and i actually did it, i upload studies and illustrations, i don't see results but still have fun, so if you do art, just create a social media account and who knows, maybe you will go viral.

Results will come trust me. I have Instagram reels that did "poorly" when they initially came out, then after 3 weeks the algorithm randomly pushed it to thousands. Just keep create authentic and quality content :)
