Episode 117 - More games that share the same name but are quite different or even completely different games... yeah kinda like the title says I guess. Which version comes to your mind first when someone mentions certain game names?

Adventures of Batman and Robin for Genesis is one of the most impressive 16 bit games ever created. Clockwork programmed the entire thing in assembly, hence the insane scaling effects on hardware that didn't natively support it. It looks better than most ps1 games.Throw in a challenge, smooth gameplay and one of Jesper Kyd's finest soundtracks and you have a classic.

I agree with 75% of what you said...80%...maybe 82%. Batman and Robin does indeed look ridiculous on the Genesis. It's one of the best graphically of its generation. However, I do not think it looks better than the majority of PSX games. It might have aged better than the 3D games, but there are 2D games it can't hope to compare with. Why would it? The Playstation is by far a more advanced console in every conceivable way.

Shadowrun for Genesis is a great game, and hands down the best one, just avoid enemies until you get a good weapon. How to get into the game: get few jobs done, retrive your brother's stuff, then do jobs in other parts of the town to get a lot more money and you should be able to log into the Matrix and that's where things get really interesting. It's a VERY hard game.

The skit at the end where Dave is telling Joe rare/valuable games are worthless, while saying the junk is high value, is hilarious. I guess that was the idea though.

Shaun Ginty I replied that way because it assumes that there will be no more entries in the series. If they're not in this episode, maybe the next time we do this they will be. Or maybe the time after that. Your comment is very similar to those that say "You forgot Ninja Gaiden, etc". We didn't forget. We just chose to cover other things in this episode. We're happy with suggestions, just not those accusing us of neglecting to put them in a specific episode. :)

Some quick IDEAS for future Episodes: Games with horrible voice acting, Games game breaking bugs (Escape of Monkey Island is one of them), Adventure Games on Consoles (Glass Rose), Rythem Games like Gitaroo Man, Mad Maestro, Games that SCREAM Japan all over the place (heavily influenced by Japanese culture), Left in USA (Mega Man X Compilation), Left in EUROPE/Japan (The Simple Series), GAMES that aren't well known (Rule of Rose), GAME sequels that failed in 3D (Castlevania 64), Franchises that failed in a new genre ( Castlevania for the Wii), Clones that are better than their original, Games that take place in a Western setting (Samurai Western PS2), Games that are published by XXX (505 Games, CAPCOM, Konami), Forgotten games (Mobile Suit Gundam Arcade Games - Federation vs. Zeon) Strategy games on consoles (Herzog Zwei, a obvious one), Left in JAPAN Rainbow Man Wii, Games based on cartoons (Gregory Horror Show), Arcade type of games (Under the Skin, The Red Star), Mario Kart Clones (Freaky Flyers, Space Race) And so on and so on. I suppose you have a LOT of ideas either ,-)

I believe there was actually another Power Rangers game on the SNES; this one just called "Might Morphin Power Rangers" (minus 'the movie' in the title). It was also a beat 'em up, but with 3 1 on 1 Zord fights at the end.

Yes. Also, there were actually 4 SNES Power Rangers games, the other two being Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition (a fighting game featuring Megazords and monsters and using the same engine as a Gundam fighting game) and Power Rangers Zeo: Battle Racers (a Mario Kart clone; no, I have no idea what they were thinking, either)

In Shadowrun for Genesis, just don't be a Samurai. Be a decker or shaman. Samurai really really sucks. Get your cyberdeck and jack in to the matrix. Then you'll start having some more fun. Raid some corporations and hack their security and grenade some doors.

Game Sack If you're having trouble near the start of the game, then its worth abusing the fact that you walk faster when going diagonally (no idea why) then you can get some more distance before you try to shoot them. Alternatively, if you get far enough away that they aren't on screen anymore you can just enter a building. You should definitely give the game another go, its one of my favourite games on the mega drive.

goodall18 It;s not worth abusing, it's pretty much required. I think Shadowrun is definitely dated, but I really got into the world when that game came out. Uncle Joey Yeah. I kind of dislike doing that because it makes the game a bit too easy and repetitive. That's definitely the best way to earn cash. I like the matrix runs personally, but I try not to do that much when I play these days.

The Shadowrun games are great. If you wanna give Shadowrun on Genesis another go, just do courier missions at the beginning to rack up some karma and money (you can do them as many times as you like) That way you'll be better equipped to handle the enemies. It starts off as a bit of a grind but gets a lot better some time in. Also, you missed the opportunity to cover 2007 Shadowrun for the Xbox360 and PC, but I can't really fault you since as a multiplayer-only game it's most likely long dead. Could have been worth a mention though.

I really like the Genesis version of Shadowrun, I have played through it multiple times and never had issues with constantly dying. Make sure you avoid the southern area where all of the Halloweeners hang out until you're able to get yourself a better gun and armor. Do a few of the fetch jobs that the first Johnson offers you to build up a bit of cash, and if he offers you a job that takes you near the southern part of the map, don't accept it. Talk to him again and he'll offer you a new job, they're randomized.

Dave, I hope you find the patience you require in order to play Shadowrun for the Genesis. It is such an awesome and rewarding game. Once you get through the early stuff the game really opens up, and you can lose yourself in extra side missions, or push on with the main quest... it's totally up to you. The game was way closer to the table-top RPG than the SNES version was (though the SNES one was every bit as good, for totally different reasons), and had really deep game play. The matrix portions were great and really immersed you in the setting. Not sure what you meant by there not being much music in the SNES version. There is music everywhere in the game. I like that they used subdued/ambient stuff in the matrix and the graveyards etc... and I think the opening scene has the best music on the entire SNES library, hands down. The soundtrack really nails the cyber-punk theme and it is one of the only SNES games I routinely listen to on my ipod. tl;dr, I hope you give the Genesis version another shot, it was simply amazing. Keep up the good work guys, your videos are consistently great and I am always happy when I notice you have uploaded a new video.

Absolutely loved Shinobi for the Sega Master System. Nothing more gratifying than making it to the final boss with the gun and the chain. And good call on Shadow Dancer for the Genesis. I couldn't believe that I actually liked a home console version of a game better than the arcade. I beat it on expert mode/no shurikens about 23 years ago and remember there were no female hostages for power ups, bosses had twice the health, and if you finish the game it says "The End" as opposed to "To Be Continued..." on easier levels. Nice vid guys!

The SNES version of MMPR: The Movie is honestly my favorite SNES game. It's a lot of fun to play, and it has an awesome original soundtrack. The Genesis version, however, isn't very good. Enemies take too long to defeat, the backgrounds are pretty forgettable, their attempt at having an actual story that follows the movie is pretty pathetic since it randomly goes to flashbacks of Season 2 of the show in order to pad out the game, and Tommy really gets shafted in the Megazord stages, as the White Tigerzord Warrior Mode and Falcon Zord are far less powerful than the Thunder Megazord and Ninja Megazord, respectively.

Surprised you didn't mention the Xbox 360 game called Shadowrun. It was a Counterstrike-esque FPS with good gameplay and some clever ideas. The game was online only, and as such it's now dead as a doornail, so your footage would likely be limited to training mode. Still, it existed, and was called Shadowrun.

I... I think Dave might have sold me on a Power Rangers game. I do like beat-'em-ups, and both versions of Power Rangers: The Movie appealed to me based on footage and description. Now I have to keep my eyes open at my usual retro stops for one (or both) of these. Also: The Adventures of Batman & Robin for both Genesis and SNES now have my attention, despite my general lack of knowledge about this IP's source material. I either didn't know or conveniently forgot that WOW Entertainment had a hand in the design of Nightshade for the PS2. Honestly, I've been halfheartedly looking for it since I found Shinobi for cheap (which Joe covered here), but now I'm more intrigued... because WOW. It's the little things, I guess. Thanks for another really enjoyable video-- and the ending skit still has me laughing, as I type this. You guys rock. (But you already know that.)

I personally like the Genesis version of the Power Rangers The Movie game, due to the music being closer to the show and the character sprites being more accurate, unlike it's SNES counterpart.
@JamieOrlando
@JamieOrlando 9 жыл бұрын
Just two random things: If the music playing during the part showing Mega CD Shadowrun is from that game, it definitely uses some Sega CD PCM in the music like the "past" stages in Sonic CD do. Also I agree with Dave in that I also like the Gameboy's chararacteristic sound chip.

I think Shinobi 3D is the Japanese name. Not entirely sure, though.

That would make sense since the soundtrack (OST) is called Shinobi 3D.
@suroguner
@suroguner 9 жыл бұрын
That's one possible reason, but another could be that it's on the 3ds and people refer to it as Shinobi 3D because of that. Just like how people refer to Sonic the Hedgehog on Xbox 360 as Sonic 06

Ninja Gaiden had FIVE different games under the same name - an arcade beat-em-up, three different 2D platformers (NES, Game Gear, Master System), and a 3D action game for the Xbox. There was even a sixth game also called Ninja Gaiden canceled on the Genesis. Great series all around.

I like Shadowrun for sega genesis quite a bit. It was one of my favorite games back in the day and I've beaten it numerous times throughout the years. Yeah the start of the game can be really tough, but once you get deeper into the game it gets easier and more interesting. It has a really nice skill tree where you can level up any skills, including melee, ranged combat, magic and computer hacking skills. You unlock new areas and quest givers as you progress. You can upgrade your equipment, including cyberwear. The computer hacking is pretty interesting. It will help in missions, or you can use it outside of missions to steal files from corporations and sell them.

The PS1 game was not called Alien 3, but rather part of the three mini-FPS release called Alien Trilogy. Also released around the same time as Die Hard Trilogy on the PS1 and Saturn. I'm not sure if they covered Die Hard on the NES and PC-Engine, though.

I am on the verge of completely writing Dave off for his review of Shadowrun on the sega genesis. Just because you guys are bad at video games and can not understand how to play a game you write it off. Also really bad job reviewing Sega CD version of Shadowrun because you would realize that it has a battle system similar to Shining Force. I really expected more from you guys. I love your other episodes but you guys totally dropped the ball on this one. Also I am a Nintendo guy and even I can understand that Shadowrun is better on the Genesis if you put your time into it. Learn how to play a game before reviewing it. The damn footage you showed was you shooting neutral enemies that weren't even hostile. Stick to reviewing stupid boring platformers because anything other than that is too hard for you. My god. I can't even imagine you guys reviewing in depth games made by companies like Koei. There is a reason why so many people hold Shadowrun on the Genesis as one of the best games on the system. If I was a reviewer inclined to trash a game I would look deeper into it to show why I disliked it to make a more valid point.

Hooray Shadowrun! You should really give the Genesis version another shot. At the beginning of the game everyone you encounter is augmented in some way, whether cybernetically or magically and you're just a regular dude so yea, you die a lot but it gets easier after some upgrades. Anyway, "Johnsons" are mission givers, "runs" are missions and upon completion of runs you receive "NuYen" or money to buy upgrades so you don't die as much. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a good 16 bit RPG. I just need to track down a copy of the SNES version.
