Wrong. The definition of marriage has changed and evolved throughout human history. Historically and even biblically, marriage used to mean one man and MANY women. This was the status quo of marriage for thousands of years before many societies (starting from the 6th century) REDEFINED it to be one man and woman. Moreover, marriage had already changed from its millenia-old definition of being defined by a dominant and subordinate partner. There was a change in the institution of marriage to make it egalitarian when it wasn't egalitarian. Marriage has always been shaped by society. And as society's structure, values, and goals change over time, its ideas of marriage will continue to change/evolve along them.
