If a couple is living their lives outside the will of God but they desire to draw closer to God, could not the couple go to the priest to ask for spiritual help in the form of a prayer and a blessing? And if the priest makes the prayer and gives a blessing asking God to: - give them His light to help them to listen, understand, and live by the Word of God, which the Lord gave to us to illuminate and guide the steps we take in our life according to His Will, - would such an intervention be confusing, cause scandal, or cause the persons to be misguided into thinking that the priest is blessing their union so that they continue living contrary to His will? @@dostondoc23I apologize. I guess I got polarized by the amount of propagandists against what the document actually says and omitted considering people who have legitimate concerns. The document is clear that the term couples refer to the sinners in the irregular relationship and not the union itself. (§4, 5, 6, etc.) To your question, the purpose is to receive Christ (§ 1) so that they could overcome their sin. The blessing is not a liturgical blessing (§ 11) but the common practice today for sinners and even things. This is in perfect accordance with Church's doctrine and there are plenty of teachings in the gospels were Christ approached sinners first so they could break out of sin later. Even some secular media reports this accurately so it's not impossible for religious media to understand it.

Is there a law that prevents gays from the church? I mean prevent them from the word of God, the counsel of God, intercessions, the love of God, the love from the saints? Is there any? I dont think there is any. Beside, what a sinner needs is not a "blessing" but mercy, intercession, counsel, love, good preaching and making the mind of God abundantly clear. That's what they need, not a "blessing". The "universal blessing" is already available to all and sundry both for the righteous and the sinner... And that is also where the message of Jesus Christ comes in. A criminal going for robbery does not need a blessing, he needs repentance, period! Thank you for clarification on the blessing of gay couple. It only means that the Catholic Church could not turn away anyone sinner or saint. But like the Pope said under certain condition. I'm a Catholic so whenever I ask for a blessing from priest I would say may matter to be blessed and the priest will blessed me on that matter while telling to accept Jesus Christ and pray to Him of may sins regarding may matters, like having conflict with my parents, and live life according to the teaching of Jesus Christ. So when a gay couple ask for a blessing the priest would not turned them away but could blessed them as a child of God who will be told to accept Jesus Christ and His teachings and turned away from their evil ways. Remember everyone, Jesus Christ went down from heaven for the sinner to saved and teaching the sinners of the word of God and giving them chance to repent. And this is exactly what the Pope is trying to achieve to give these gay couples to be blessed for example for their health, for their relationship, for their job under the condition they will accept Jesus Christ and His teachings in their life. That through them discovering the words of God these gay couples will see to themselves they are infact sinners. What if they won't repent. Well the Catholic Church will still bless them until such time they reach spiritual renewal. To all of you, we cannot deny these gay couples, sinners as they are, of the blessing of God because without God's word they will continue to live in their fleshly desire. Let's not be hypocrite that we don't have family members who are homosexual and many of us are praying that they would turn away in their sinful way. Fr. The question which was asked to Pope was asked in context of blessings the homosexual couples. They wanted to know whether the church can bless that relationship. The document could have stated clearly that the homosexual should be counselled for them to repeat (promise to God to stop that relationship)then the doors will be open for individuals to be blessed. The medical team and your parents look at your external genitals to pick your gender. I first thought it was a spiritual blessing akin to how Jesus blessed sinners. But the more I understand the more this looks like blessing of the union thus allowing gay marriage in the church. There is a difference when you bless someone who is a sinner to encourage them back to faith, the whole idea of redemption thus showing the sinner there is love waiting for them if they change their ways. But blessing a sinner for commiting sin is a whole other can of worms. That's endorsement and would make the blessed a hypocrite. Why would stop sinning if I'm blessed for my sin? I really couldn't care. I left the church long ago because it's an absolute corruption of God's law. They rape little boys and protect the men who do it. They supported Hitler.
