The background music is really distracting but that’s you very much for the review! I recently was gifted a semi-broken (stringless and a little beaten up) guitalele because they knew I played the ukulele and didn’t realize it wasn’t the same instruments and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it.

Haha, I thought I'd try and make the vid a little more entertaining with some background music, well at least I'm playing the same chords there as the ones I'm talking about in the vid ;-) Have fun with restoring and playing your guitalele :-) There's plenty of guitalele tutorials here on youtube. You can use regular nylon/classic guitar strings for guitalele tuning. For a uke player it will feel a bit like a low G tenor uke. With two extra top strings.

Hi Liseth, thanks for the video. I got myself a Yamaha Guitalele. I have almost zero knowledge of strings on any kind of device. Was wondering where I can start to learn playing this instrument. Any online classes that you would suggest for a beginner like me please?

Hi Kalyan, you got yourself the GL1, good choice, congratulations 😃 I just searched on ‘learn to play guitalele’ here on youtube, and there’s quite a lot tutorials popping up, among which some by a channel named ‘Uke Like The Pros’ that I’ve seen before; you might wanna check out his guitalele tutorials to start with. Maybe he also offers private online lessons, I don’t know. Have fun learning! 👍

It is a little guitare, so just learn it as a guitar! That’s what I do, and with practise I find out that you can play almost anything on it, even if sometimes at the bottom of the neck it's a bit more difficult or you have to change the fingering or simplify a little bit… (for example for the A shape bar chord, at some point you have to do a double bar and avoid the 1st string...) But on the other hand, the advantage of the shorter scale is that you can go further to find notes, and sometimes play things that are impossible on the guitar… Great little instrument! 😎

Yes you can :-) But they are transposed, as if you have put a capo on the fifth fret.

@@maharshi4614 yes a G is still a G, but it needs to be played in another chordSHAPE, because the whole instrument is transposed '5 frets up'.

A Requinto has the same tuning as a Guitar w/ a Capo on the 5th Fret as well

Hi deeflow, the chordshapes are the same, but the guitalele is tuned like 'guitar with capo on 5'. So a Dm on guitar is played like Am chordshape on guitalele. C on guitar is played in G chordshape on guitalele. The other way around: if you would transpose the guitar Dm chordshape up to guitalele tuning, that would be a Gm. And a C chord transposed up to guitalele tuning is an F. Does that answer your question?
