Hi. I bought a 500W version of this bike from ebay to replace a previous one that had been stolen. I'm finding a lot of shortcomings on the new bike and the seller is kicking back on every issue I raise. First, I lose my chain just by backpedalling. On investigation I found that there are 12 "clicks" on the left thumb shifter. Surely there should only be 3 on a 21 speed bike???? Seller is saying the manufacturer supplies it with 12 settings. There were only 3 on the first one I had. Anybody happy to tell me how many they have please? Second problem is that the throttle gives me LESS power than the PAS level I'm using. On my other one I could happily ride along on PAS1 then just hit the throttle if I came to a small hill and get more than enough of a boost to get up the hill without having to increase the PAS level. On this new bike I get no help from adding the throttle. In fact, if I'm cycling on the flat and I hit the throttle then stop pedalling, the bike slows by about 3kph, on a small hill I can lose 5-6kph. Lastly, the s830 lcd. Can you think of any reason why I can't change well over half of the settings? I know that some are not supposed to be changed but I know for sure that I should be able to change P09 (zero/non zero start) and I can't, and I suspect that this might be the reason I'm getting such poor performance from the throttle. The only settings I can change are P01, P02, P08 AND P16. Is this a faulty unit or is there something I can do to make the other settings accessible to me? Sorry for asking so many questions in one go but I have a strong suspicion I've been sold a dud.

Hello! How is the acceleration with only the throttle? Do you still need to cycle to keep some speed or is the "electric only" mode able to reach max speed?
@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 4 жыл бұрын
With only throttle it's pretty good you can actually see it in the video at around 0:40 when I turn right, it has enough power to push you, as for keeping it at speed you can definitely do it with just the throttle only but this will depend on your battery level. I find that below 50 percent the top speed will be lowered to around 30-35kmh depending on your weight.

Hey, how is it going up hill, and if you have the throttle unlocked, how much power is behind the throttle
@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 3 жыл бұрын
Going up hills is pretty decent, the steeper you go tho the more pedaling you have to do since its only a 500w and there isn't enough torque. As for the throttle, it was on my default. You feel a bit of kick the first time you ride it but you get used to it, its not a strong enough to throw you off the bike or anything. at 6:01 you can see me use it to accelerate then let go :)

Hey, thanks for the videos you analysed both the bike I would buy... I'm divided between the SAMEbike and the ENGWE EP-2. I will need it to commute (30 km each way) either cycling or carrying it on the train, but also I would like to go for excursions with it. Which one would you suggest me to buy? The ENGWE seems pretty heavy whereas the SAMEbike looks bulky. What's your opinion? Many thanks for the answer!
@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 4 жыл бұрын
Spec wise both bike perform mostly the same. I think the Samebike Lo26 is a bit faster and easier to push with the pedals but not by much. I'm doing a comparison video between both but sadly I've been sick and now that I'm better the weather is a bit shit! So that video is delayed. Here are some points though; - Which is heavier? The engwe ep-2 is a tiny bit heavier with 30kg and samebike is 27kg at least my bikes. - Which bike is more portable? Both fold and take up roughly same space when folded. Only difference are the thickness of the wheels and the wheel diameter. You'll find that the Samebike Lo26 will fit more in train and parking bike racks because of the thinner wheels. - Which one is faster? The Samebike LO26 is a bit faster since I can program the speed to a faster setting than engwe ep-2 and the same bike is also easier to pedal due to the positioning of the rider and the thinner wheels. - Which one has nicer brakes? Both are shit :) but usable. Wear them down and replace them ASAP. - Which one is comfier to ride? It depends. If you want to go slightly faster and pedal more I would say the Samebike Lo26. But if you want to just cruise around and pedal a tiny bit I would recommend the Engwe Ep-2. The samebike has a low handle bar position gives you more confidence when taking a corner specially in rough/off road. The Engwe has a higher handlebar a lot comfier to cruise around town with :) - Which one can go longer? No definite answer here since both of them have nearly identical battery specs and motors specs. In my own personal opinion the Samebike will go further just because my samebike rolls further without power than my engwe and its a lot easier to pedal. Just as a context and spoiler for the next test video before the comparison; I've been doing range test with pedal assist and I've reached 41KM with 57 percent left in the battery, TLDR: Get the samebike if you plan to pedal more and don't mind a low handle bar. Get the engwe if you only plan to cruise around and want a comfy straight back :) Both bikes will perform pretty much the same as each other. Really hope this helps!

Hi Jeff, nice video thanks. I’m planning to buy this bike myself, my only concern is the weight, I found it on line for the 350 W version but not for this one which seems lighter. Do you think is possible to fold it and put it on train or go up some scales if needed or too heavy? Thanks
@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 4 жыл бұрын
The bike is pretty heavy, and bulky too since it doesn't have a folding handlebar,. If I was you I would look into one of those fiido bikes or the Samebike 20lvxd30. They are about half the weight and most of them have folding handle bars and a bit bit smaller wheels.

@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I can't say much on the Fiido D4S since I don't own it but here's my opinion on which. Fiido if you want more of a smaller and more compact bike to ride around town with. From the looks of it its the lightest bike at around 18kgs (samebike: 27kg, engwe ep-2: 30kg), it also has a lower wattage motor but this means that the battery will last you longer :) Samebike LO26 if you want that mountain bike feeling, do some light off road/trails. Pedaling is a lot easier because of the thinner wheel and riding position. Engwe EP2 if you just want to cruise around, can do some off road riding too cause of the fat wheels. Straighter back when riding because of the high handle bar which means if you're older or have a bad back you can ride this a lot longer than the samebike IMO. Hope this helps :)

So this bike. I've been lead to believe has a Max speed of 25 mph moped/throttle only mode , and Max's range of 22 miles, on moped/throttle only mode. If that's the case then a full charge will last less than an hour if you stay in moped mode. I would like to know if this is true.
@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 3 жыл бұрын
If you’re going for that max speed and I’d recon you’d only get 30km out of your battery. Again there’s no full proof of testing the range on EVs because a lot of factors come into play like weather temp, wind direction, inclines and traffic. This is why on the videos I made the distance is only a reference. If you want a higher capacity bike I would say building your own ebike with a kit will be better

Hello, what is better this model or engwe ep12? If I can help :)
@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 4 жыл бұрын
I prefer this one just because its a lot easier to pedal and the body positioning if more like a mountain bike so you feel more in control in general. The EP-2 you still have a lot of control but since the handlebars are short and upwards it feels less. Both are good. I'd say get this if you plan on pedaling and just using the power once in a while to cool down and get the Engwe EP-2 if you're planning on mostly using the motor since its more comfortable to ride that with a lower seat which means you'll get less power from pushing down the pedals. In terms of build quality they are mostly the same since they basically use the same body. The only thing bad about this is the mud guards, unlike the EP-2 which was custom made and is metal, the one for the Samebike is plastic and cheap. You can easily replace this though which is not a problem. Notice in the video that I was riding this at pedal assist 0 for most of it and even it off which means pedaling is easy on this with the EP-2 I always feel like I need to turn on the power assist to get it going :) Stay tuned for the comparison video just waiting for some good weather to film and me to feel better and should be good to go :) Edit: added more notes

@@5doolar yeah it's around the same since they have an identical battery set up. The only real differences are the wheel size, seat and handle bar positioning and the speed controllers. Edit: with the older ep-2 model the one with the black screen, it's limited to 40kmph, this bike you can go up higher because of the speed controller. Just mentioning it in case you get the older version and keep in mind the higher you go the more power it draws so I would not recommend going about 40kmph anyways :)

Very helpful information. I am also considering ep 2 as I need something to commute and go to work also the fact that it folds is nice . I do own a nice mountain bike and I will keep it for the times when I just want to pedal and do some exercises but it is a pain in the .... when I need to transport it. I was also thinking to get one of those DYI gearless motors ebike kits...to transform my current mountain bike into an ebike but this will cost some 500-600 usd and the fact that it will not fold is a big minus for me. Last time I checkd with some aliexprss copuons you could get the ep 2 for around 915 usd ...which looks ok to me for what it can offer. By the why how did you fixed the brake sound issue? @JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 4 жыл бұрын
I don't own lectric xp but I have a similar enough looking bike so I think my opinion is still valid. First of all I'm assuming you're from USA correct? If that's the case I would lean into the Lectric XP since they would provide you with more customer support. If we don't take your location and customer support into account here's my opinion on which you should pick up. Get the Samebike LO26 because of the following reasons: - Easy to find replacement wheels and tubes since it doesn't have fat wheels. - If you plan to take light trails (the riding position gives me more confidence). - Has two shocks for comfort (granted its not the best but its user replaceable). - Easier to pedal, since it has a lower handle bar you feel more comfortable raising up the seat to an optimal position for pedaling . Get the Lectric XP because of the following reasons: - The company (from the looks of it) changed some of the stock parts to better ones. - If you plan to pedal less and use the motor more. (my bike Engwe EP-2 is similar to the Lectric XP in terms of specs and riding position, it favors a lower seat position since the handlebar is so high, I feel more confident with the seat lower.) - Straighter back when riding because of the high handlebar. Good if you have back pains or for older folks - Has a bike rack pretty useful imo :) TLDR; Get the samebike if you want more of a mountain bike experience do some light off roading. Get the Lectric if you want to cruise around and use the motor more. I know its kind of a none answer but hope this helps!

Depends on the hill, if it's a low gradient and long hill it won't have a problem, if it's a steep hill you'll have trouble going up by motor only, you'd need to adjust your bikes gears and help it along. It's only a 500w motor and the battery is relatively small. If you want a bike that can tackle hills a bit better I'd go with a bigger battery bike and 1000w hub motor. That or one of the mid drive motors they have way more torque.

@JeffyTology
@JeffyTology 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Arnav, The main difference is the wheel type when I was looking around the 350w had spoke-less wheels and the 500w has spokes. This means you'll have to do less maintenance on your wheels! ;) The second difference would be just up hills and how fast the bike is like you said. So you'll probably use less of the battery compared to the 500w variant but his depends on how you ride because even if the motor is rated at 350w your bike can still output more power if your battery can provide the juice needed :) As for my experience the bike is awesome but it can be improved! I'm gonna upload a range test video once its stops raining here, but so far I've been able to reach 50-60km on a single charge this is with pedal assist 3/4 going around 30-40kmph and mainly using the motor but "fake pedaling" just so cops don't give me trouble. A few upgrades later on would be great! like better shocks for the front and back (both shocks are spring loaded), better disc brakes and pads, gears with more tooth just so you can pedal harder when at speed, better seat, better front light if you plan to ride at night (the led light provided is bright enough for other roads users to see you but its not bright enough for night riding, check out the video I uploaded for the insta 360 night test) and lastly! a back light (planning to investigate so I can use the bike controls to turn it on and off just like for the front).
