This was the best example of what long-term storytelling can accomplish. From Jey walking out to Sami done acknowledging Roman, this proved to be the best storyline WWE has done in years. I went to a bar to watch the Rumble. At first it was just me, the manager, and one of the guys staying there (the bar was in a backpackers hostel). We were making some noise and a bunch of people kept poking their heads in to see what was happening. Some of them were lapsed wrestling fans who stuck around to watch some more, some had never seen wrestling before but were kind of intrigued, and the rest just brushed it off as "that fake wrestling crap". That is, until the main event. Damn near every eye in the bar became glued to the TV during Owens vs Reigns, but even more so after the match. The feed actually started buffering when they handcuffed Owens to the ropes and everyone was hoping it would stop. The feed finally became stable again and then Roman handed the chair to Sami. Cue the murmuring among the bar. And when Sami hit Roman with the chair, I couldn't even hear the TV anymore because everyone in the bar who was watching absolutely exploded with joy. And I just found myself thinking, wrestling is a beautiful thing when done right.

Man , I said that while I'd be happy for cody to get a deserved win (and I was) I'd still be upset because sami winning would be my favourite moment of all time. But what they did instead, like the rest of the story, was absolute perfection and I am just happy to see where it all goes from here because I have so much faith in this story. I think its my favourite wrestling story ever, everything just builds and builds, everyone's character is just so defined and makes complete sense, Jey hating sami but opening up once he realised he was always trying to help and never giving up on him, defending him, walking away when they attacked this person he now sees as a brother, it makes even more sense as jey was the original one to defy roman. Jimmy just doing what he's told without question and feeling offended when his own family won't do the same, Solo just being a hit man and wanting to hurt people, heyman just trying to look out for himself and follow whatever he thinks roman would want, not caring who he throws under the bus on the way. Roman feeling like hes in the right, no matter how despicable and manipulative he is. Feeling like sami is betraying him, the chair shot being like the shield breaking up, him convincing himself no matter how much sami is done he, sami is tearing the family apart and not him. Sami just wanting a sense of belonging initially being cowardly but becoming more and more brave the more accepted he felt, but conflicted whenever he felt he wasn't doing what was right, with finally his good nature coming out when he witnessed what they were doing to his old friend. Him conflicted with a chair reminded me a lot of r evolution when he struggled whether or not to hit neville with the chair. He did the right thing then by not using the chair, but this time he did the right thing by using the chair. I just love everything about this story and there's so much more left to be told about where everyone goes from here. I'm all here for it!

For the ending, after being so nice to Sami and even having the handshake, I thought Jimmy would be a little more conflicted too but Jey is coming full circle and I love it. All the teenagers and kids in my house loved the Pitch Black match, I thought it was alright. It was easily the thing that they most connected with. Made me think that maybe I'm just not the target audience anymore which is 100% ok. We see so much of the same over and over again in wrestling, I respect Bray for taking chances on new things. Specially in this day and age when people shit on everything that doesn't align with their tastes.

Regarding the Pitch Black match, it was so nice of WWE to help out Wrestlecrap with their inductions. Sidebar Where the hell is this Uncle Howdy story going? Honestly, I loved the way Adam from PartsFunknown booked the Uncle Howdy storyline a lot more.
@emirlsanchos63022 жыл бұрын
There's definitely a contrast of "Long-Term Storytelling" unfolding in conjunction. On the one hand, you've got the whole "Sami Zayn Betrayal" swerve that was built up solidly and even when you knew it was coming that didn't take away from the intrigue because they were upfront at where they were headed. On the other, you've got Bray Wyatt's "Uncle Howdy" storyline where week after week, it's left cryptic with no straight answers. And at this stage, Bray really needs to start doing some major reveals because there's only so much cryptic, ambiguous riddles one can take before it gets boring and directionless.

I used to watch every WWE PPV with my best friend in high school and then I moved away for college in 2017. We kinda tried to keep up but it just got lost because we weren't gripped enough by the stories and we kinda fell out of love with wrestling. We still came together to watch either a Royal Rumble or a Wrestlemania every couple years, including last year where frankly we both just didn't get into it at all and thought it was kind of the end of the road for us watching WWE. We gave it one last shot with this Royal Rumble. We're both transfixed. I've been watching Raw and Smackdown every week, we're meeting up with each other way more often to watch the shows and we're gonna watch Mania together. The Bloodline and Sami Zayn have genuinely rekindled one of my closest friendships from high school and have us making train journeys to watch the shows together again. I couldn't thank them enough. Also sidenote: once I was back into wrestling again my love for this channel skyrocketed again. I've always stayed subscribed and enjoyed the content even when I haven't been watching any wrestling but now I'm getting in that Mania spirit and I'm going Zane crazy! Thanks for all the great work, Brian!

You know you’ve done something right when an angle at the end of the Royal Rumble PPV gets a bigger reaction than the rest of the show. We haven’t had storylines like this in a very long time… BUT… I’m scared they booked themselves in a corner like they did with Danielson in 2014… A LOT of ppl are going to want to see Sami vs Roman for a title after this…

Have Sami and Jey be the final two in elimination chamber, Jey lays down to give Sami the Wrestlemania shot.
@mrdude882 жыл бұрын
No, WWE haven’t corner themselves yet. Reigns have two titles, Wrestlemania is two night. Sami Vs Reign on the opening match on night one with Reigns retaining due to some interferences. Rhodes Vs Reign (battle of two wrestling family) main eventing the Night 2 for the WWE Championship, with interference like on night one but Sami prevents the disruption, which ends with Cody being the first Rhodes to win the WWE Championship. Reigns can then lose the Universal Championship on Backlash and disappear for a few long months while other superstars and new storylines gets written in his absence.
@TSKyanite2 жыл бұрын
@@mrdude88 You got what I have but backwards. I have Rhodes only challenging for the WWE title because that is what he cares about, but interferences on night one causes Rhodes to lose, but he causes a lot of damage to Roman. Sami with help from Jey (who teams with Owens against Jimmy and Solo) and Cody to repel the bloodline, and Sami taking advantage of the damage that Cody caused to Roman the night before means that he walks out of Wrestlemania with the universal title. I then would have Reigns mad at Cody about the loss(he doesn't care about the title, its more about his place as the head, as shown by how flippant he was in telling Owens he could have a title match). This would lead up to Cody winning the title at Summerslam(I associate Dusty more with Summerslam than mania anyway).
@tyrone59692 жыл бұрын
Not just bigger than the rest of the show, that was genuinely one of the greatest crowd reactions ever. They were cussing out Roman and booing the Bloodline out of the building. It honestly nearly reminded me of Hogan turning in '96 and I'm genuinely surprised they weren't throwing trash in the ring. I still don't follow WWE beyond review/recap content like this, but I'll happily say that this is one of THE greatest storylines in pro-wrestling history. They've played this to absolute perfection and I hope they can nail the landing. Because if they even come close to nailing the landing it will be, with all sincerity, one of the best things we've ever seen in pro-wrestling.
@decepticonxhunter48502 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter what the fans think they want, nor should it. The logical thing to do would be to pair Sami and K.O. up to go after the Raw tag titles. Cody is already going after the WWE title, and SD has better contenders for the Universal title than Sami. Sami can play the part of being a thorn in the Bloodline's side along with K.O.. Him being kicked out doesn't automatically mean he should be in a world title match.
