All those memories are mutual for kids in that time , Sorry for thing you went through, ur Ethiopian brother
This song, and the album that carried it, was very popular in Ethiopia when it first came out. I was young then, living in a rural town. Sami was a big hit. I can argue that after Kiros Alemayehu, he was the second most popular Tigrinya musician widely listened by non-Tigrinya speakers. This was the era before Abraham Gebremedhin and Mahlet Gebregiorgis. I have not forgotten about Abraham Afewerki, but I do not think he had penetrated the Ethiopian music market as effectively as Sami did in a brief span of time until the border war cut his revenues short. His cassette was ubiquitous in every Buna Bet and even in most households that were lucky enough to own a boom box! And a lot of the people did not know the meaning. They just loved the Tigrinya beat! “Woyinaye” was very catchy. Unfortunately, the terrible and senseless border war not only destroyed the fragile relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea but also decapitated the promising artistic exchange and development between us. Bad politics and bad politicians are the enemy of progress and can turn lovers into haters. I am not here to point fingers at specific individuals or public figures because we all have played our roles, however insignificant we may assume our role has been. When there is a sustainable peace between the people living in the border areas, efficiently managed flow of people and goods, free exchange of ideas and shared values, and accountability and justice for the victims of war, there will be a permanent peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Let’s learn from the experiences of neighboring countries such as Canada and the US, Singapore and Malaysia, or Ireland and the UK. In the last two years, history repeated itself. We must not forget that the retributive war in Tigray has claimed the lives of over 1.2 million people. This is a grave tragedy that demands accountability and justice for the victims. It is not enough to simply hope for better relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea, Eritreans and Tegaru, Tegaru and Amhara, Tegaru and Oromo, Tegaru and Afar, or Tegaru and the rest of Ethiopia. We must genuinely reflect on what really happened and hold those responsible for atrocities accountable and ensure justice for all victims of the tragic conflict. Without accountability and justice, there can be no meaningful reconciliation and sustainable peace. We must learn from our previous mistakes to build new bridges. I hope to see more collaboration and less enmity between us. More opportunities and less threats. More kindness and less hate speech, especially between Eritreans and Tegaru, Tegaru and Amhara, Oromo and Tegaru, Oromo and Somali, Somali and Afar, Oromo and Amhara, Amhara and Gumuz, and other warring groups. Those of us in the Horn of Africa are one big dysfunctional family. Let’s work together for a better tomorrow and fight against poverty, ignorance and prejudice. Let us create new opportunities for collective security and coexistence. It begins with you, the individual reading this comment. We have had more than enough bloodshed, divisive politics and toxic culture. The toxicity and hateful language, both online and offline, must stop. We all are suffering from bad political decisions. Our poor people are also victims of geopolitical decisions made outside of their control in Beijing, Washington, London, Brussels, Doha, Dubai and other foreign capitals and corporate boardrooms. While innocent people are collectively bleeding, someone else is cashing. #NeverForget One love!!

Okay holy Bana, you shared is so amazingly wonderful and thoughtful idea, advice concerns and suggestions I wish all Eritrean and Ethiopian think just like you.. you said it well, we are slagging behind due to dirtiness and ugliness of old fashion politics.. I always regretted and saddened by the lost of human life, economic retarded and poisoned relationship of two countries , even time didn’t recover the would of the past. The worst ever happened after October 2021 with War and Genocides … Many things to say .. may God give us Mercy.. We rebelled worst than ever and God will punished us for our inequities and gulties…
This song reminds me of my beautiful youth. It was the first song I heard in the Eritrean songs I like it so much❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷
