I am from Tigray. I used to listen to Sami when I was living in Khartoum as a kid. It reminds me a lot of my experience with my Eritrean friends in Khartoum and shabia school. One of the few artists that have touched the hearts and minds of many generations and still the music is legendary.

My neighbors at kebena area were Eritreans, wonderful childhood memories. Politics always shape our lives anyways. But lett's always keep for love each other. We don't know what tomorrow brings. Especially kids should always be though loving each other irrespective of religion and ethnicity. Kids have potential to unite the world.

I wrote about this song and Dawit Mekonnen's Oromiffa song "An Dhufeen jiraa" in my latest ethnography book titled "Borana and Barentu" (2021). I did so because the two songs dominated the radio, TV, Tapes, cafes, taxis and other media in Ethiopia in 1997-1998.
