I wish I had seen this six months ago. Would have saved me some money. As it happens I stuck the SUPwinder on my inflatable SUP (and it is still stuck on OK today, so I do not know why they say only hard SUPs). But go the cheapest way is my recommendation, because once you have been out on the SUP with a wing a time or two, you will be hell-bent on getting your wingfoil board. I only used my SUP twice, so the SUPwinder was an expensive exercise. Flying a windfoil is the most awesome thing. And I didn't start till age 65!

@Psychic Junkie : The SUPWnder seems more like a rudder/keel, as opposed to these traditional-style fins. Will it help with going upwind for beginner Winging the same way? Also, based on your experience, what would be your suggestion about skipping the SUP phase altogether?

@@raghuram2815 Yes, the SUPwinder will make it easy to go upwind. Not much chance of winging upwind on a SUP without one. It will make the learning curve easier, but it will not be needed for long. I would strongly recommend getting a lesson or two from a local wingfoil school if there is one in your area.

@@psychicjunkie there isn't really a wing Foil school in our area but there are Kite schools. However, I'm planning to learn Wing Foiling myself since I'm an intermediate kitesurfer myself.

Thanks for this very helpful, taught heaps of friends on my converted inflatable sup. For others searching from New Zealand, the glue is 'Bostik 999 HR' and the additive is 'Bostik Desmodur RFE'.

Thanks for the video Sam. The Slingshot SUPWinder is more of a proper rudder/keel though. Will having a traditional-shape fin in the center still have the same effect of going upwind? These fins we are finding in Amazon (with the attachable fin box) are only 8.66 inches in length. Wonder if anyone knows how long the SUPWinder is? I couldn't find that info anywhere online.

Hey Sam, thanks for taking the time to post this. Tried your setup using plumbing aisle clear pvc cement. Was a mess to do and because my fin went right opposite the carry strap it was hard to squish things flat while they bonded. Still, held strong and worked as intended. Question - when you look at the difference between a typical fin shape and the shape of the SUP Winder do you think the larger centreboard would be a significant boost in drift prevention?

I use the Add-On Drift Stopper on my inflatable when using the wing. It's about 100€ and is attached to the board with a strap.

I use a drift stopper on an inflatable sup, it works. Might not be ideal, but it's cheapm easy, and no mods needed.

You could put a weight on it while hardening. Not pressing it by hand because you will always make thiny movements which can cause pover result. I am not quite sure if the prefab middle vin boards have may be in the interior a special construction to catch up with the forces of the vin being there.

Quick question - Is it the centre of the board from tip to tail of the board itself or did you do it in the center between the back fin and the front of the board? - It kinda looked a bit more "forward" than I was expecting! Might have to give this a go!!

Hi Ben Apologies for the delay in replying, I was out of the office on fire marshal training. Tradegrip PVC is designed for bonding exactly these types of materials. The adhesive is highly resistant to plasticiser migration which is important when trying to form successful bonds on flexible PVC and vinyl materials. Flexible plastics such as PVC and vinyl contain a lot of plasticiser. Plasticisers are commonly added to polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which otherwise is hard and brittle, to make it soft and pliable. Generally contact adhesives do not have resistance to plasticiser migration and what happens is slowly over time the plasticiser leeches from the substrate into the glue line, causing the bond to become soft and eventually fail. The curing agent in the video is Tradecure PVC, this is an isocyanate crosslinking agent for use with the PVC adhesive. On its own the adhesive can adequately bond flexible PVC and vinyl for patch repairs in tents, marquees, water-walkers etc, but with the addition of the curing agent you get a bond with much higher durability including increased resistance to plasticisers, oil, petrol, sea water, etc. If a bond line is going to be submerged in water the it is recommended to use Tradecure PVC with the adhesive. More information on cross linking can be found here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-link Most of the time when using contact adhesives in a marine application it is recommended to use 2 coats. The first coat is used as a priming coat and provides an additional barrier to prevent plasticiser migration, this should be allowed to fully dry before applying a second coating. The only other thing worth mentioning is that while the person in this video made a suitable bond, we would not recommend applying the curing agent drop-wise into the adhesive as he did in his demonstration. Usually the curing agent should be added to the adhesive while it is still in the tin and thoroughly mixed until a uniform colour is achieved, then the mixed adhesive can be painted onto the substrates to be bonded. The way it is mixed in the video does not really allow for the adhesive and crosslinking agent to be mixed in the correct ratio. We can supply this product in a 250ml set for smaller patch repairs, the product shown on youtube is a 1 Litre set. I hope this information is of use. Thx Sam I used the Supwinder on an inflatable and it stuck on ok. The instructions called for a specific distance from the aft end of the board. This proved to be way too far back with the result that the board wanted to head downwind all the time

yes it does work well providing theres enough wind to keep the kite in the sky. Better to use a small kite or a lightweight kite such as one strut

Nice. But why not buy a second-hand antique windsurfer with a real middle box instead? Then you can adjust the keel-sword on the go, and use it with a mast/sail too.
