This ended up being the unintended series finale, as Nickelodeon didn't want to air it back in 1995 (when it was originally made); "Sammy and Me" was due to the jokes about Sammy Mantis's screw-in insect eye being in bad taste (as the real Sammy Davis Jr. had a glass eye), and "The Last Temptation of Ren" was due to all the religious references. The actual series finale was "A Scooter For Yaksmas," and this episode pairing finally aired on MTV in 1996. ("Sammy and Me" finally aired on Nickelodeon in August 2000, but "The Last Temptation of Ren" didn't air on Nick at all, but eventually resurfaced on the TeenNick cable channel's "NickRewind" block. So the unintended series parting shot was Ren and Stimpy bawling their eyes out, as if they knew it was the last episode!
