Frank and Dean got most of the love...but Sammy was better
@susiem44 Жыл бұрын
@@dancer6971 Frank was a wonderful friend for Sammy. In the beginning, Frank saw Sammy perform, went backstage and told him to come see him perform. Two times went by, and Sammy wasn't there. Frank asked him why, and Sammy said they wouldn't let him in. Frank needed that job, but when he heard that, he tore up his contract and left! When Sammy lostan eye, Frank paid all the medical bills. There were plenty of other times Frank stood up for Sammy, and I think most people would do what Frank did!

If it's even possible, this live version at around 60 years old - just five years before his passing - far exceeds his brilliant studio version from 1968. Just incredible. The man was on a level that I'm afraid we will not ever see again. Awesome.

He knew how to develop the narrative of a song. He understood how to use phrasing and exploit the lyric to create tension and anticipation from the audience and of course he knew how to deliver a finale that completely satisfied expectation. He was a masterful storyteller with perfect pitch and timing. As for the actual instrument in that larnyx and diaphram, what control !

Ills saw Sammy at a stadium in St Paul Mn with Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin in my 2nd yr of college. It was the best live performance I have ever experienced. We were just teenagers and stood in the wings revelling in just seeing him up close. He called us over and asked about us and gave us a glass of champagne. I will never forget it. Dean Martin once said that Sammy can't stop performing. "When he opens the fridge and the light comes on, he starts singing." See Sammy on Dean Martin's roast on KZbin for more jokes.
